Hey everyone,

Long story short my wife and I used to be heavy smokers and we both quit together. I've been vaping ever since but my wife would have the occasional cigarette now and then and now she's been buying packs again. I'm trying to convince her to give vaping a shot.

I squonk on reos and bottom fed rbas I don't see her wanting to do that especially as a newbie.

So what is a good starter kit out there today? I'd be willing to build coils and wick for her.

Many thanks!

I would say maybe a Smok mod and a TFV8 or the V12 with the RBA deck. She would only have to fill the tank and go. You could build her coils in the RBA deck or she could use the stock coils. You can find an Alien or a GX350 and the tank for under $100. Just google either Smok Alien kit or Smoke GX350 kit, get her some 18650's and I think she will be happy after she finds a good juice she likes.

I'm sure other people will come through shortly with their opinions and between all of us inner you will find a kit she will like and be able to get off the analogs.

Good luck my friend!

Nautilus?
I'd go for a Nautilus for a newbie on the mtl path. Or something like a kayfun or kayfun style if you want to build and wick for her. That's actually what I do for my hubby, he's using either kayfun mini v3 or shorty kayfun styled tanks and I do all the building and wicking. The pico mod is a good choice for a single 18650 pocket and purse friendly unit.

I'll check out the pico definitely
Something a little nicer in the single 18650 size that is currently making the rounds in the Jac Vapour Series B DNA 75. Mine is currently in the mail so I can't comment on it yet but it's getting good marks. About 3x the price of the pico and has to be ordered from the U.K. but it does have free shipping.

something cheap and simple is the ijoy solo elf kit.. no tc modes just wattage, up to 75 watts, comes with a MTL tank... very comfy to hold takes 1x18650 and uses ijoy or nautilus coils. Has the taste control option which is why i like the mod itself, kind of a tc mode for kanthal.. and although not perfect it actually does prevent dry hits.

Of course there is the nautilus 2 zelos kit with built in battery. Great little 50w mod but be aware, the nautilus 2 0.7 coils SUCK big time, kind of like the 1.2 mini triton coils suck. Little vapour at lowest rated wattage, but any higher and it's burnt city. Of course you can use elf coils, mini triton 0.15 nickel coils, 1.8 coils, bvc etc..

I still think the nautilus is the best get off smoking thing around. And to be honest, the nautilus 1 full size or the beyond vape silo tank would be my recommendations, with your choice of mod. Reason being they have a large 22mm tank without these very silly TPD regulations, and she won't be filling it as often. it is bottom fill however vs top fill for the others i mentioned.

Then there are really simple things like the aspire K2 kit with the standard bvc coils. it just works and it's tiny. Good throat hit, use with high nic.

Plenty of options.
heck, if she likes the feel of a cig, why not try a cig a like or pod system?
I tried everything to get my dad off the smokes and i finally succeeded with a von erl my pod system. Now there are heaps of pod systems around, some refillable some with flavours.

I have heard many vapers say the easiest way to get off the stinkies is just get a juul with the snap in throwaway pods.. again, many many options...

so are you looking for mod and tank, or pod system, or does it have to be a rebuildable? can't help you with the latter. If you want to try a cig a like, i recommend the cirrus 3 kit from white cloud, not the 2 and not the 3X but the 3.. they have like 25 flavours and go up to 5.6% nic, no one else does that. They have low nic too of course.

I just recently gave my sister-in-law a Pico 75 Watt with a MTL tank and she's really liking it. At the moment she has the Nautilus X. The original choice had been to get her the Nicolas tank from, I think, vapefly or vaporfly, but I had to order from China due to it being new and not widely available. We got in a hurry after the mod got here and I had the Nauti X on hand. I never imagined she would be using it as much as she is but she's giving me hope after years. I think a pod system to go along with it for back up and just switching it up would be an excellent idea. I love the Boulder Rock with the exception of the tiny fill plug (drop it and lose it), but I'd like to try the penguin as well. If there's any interest in the Nicolas Tank, 3avape.com has an excellent price for tank and coils (18.00). It's on the tighter side of MTL, and I think it's an excellent choice as well as the Nautilus X. I started her liquid at 12 mg/mL but I think that might be too low. Time will tell.

To add... The Nautilus X and Nicolas are both top fill with easy use and great flavor. I've had no leaking from either. I've tried the Nautilus 2, and in my opinion, it's ugly, leaky, and hard to open for filling.

the aspire x30 kit comes with a nautilus x and is a true tiny stealth mod.. just another suggestion since the nautilus x talk. I like the black one.. great little 30 watt mod.
I don't have the best success with naut X's, i find the 0.6 and 1.5 coils have too many dry hits, however, the 1.8 is a doozy, and that's the one i recommend for a smoker going to vaping. Also the little x30 aspire mod is very appealing visually and with it's simple functionality and built in battery to an ex smoker. It's not huge and cumbersome or heavy.. If the user decides they like the naut X and wishes they had more juice capacity, they can get the very very cheap aspire 4ml adapter kit. Note, i have an aspire pockex aio with the 0.6 coils, and i get dry hit after dry hit.. i absolutely loathe it.. even with 80 pg juice.. so just a heads up.. if i was a smoker and used that, i would have gone straight back to smoking. As it literally tastes burnt every few hits.

I agree with the recommendations for the Pico 75W mod. Many of us have bought them from Rocky Mountain Vapor, using their 30% off coupon code. That makes the mod just $22.40 with free S/H, too. They have them in stock in Pink and in Silver right now. The code is: Turkey

For a tank, I also love the little KFL+ "shorty" tanks many of us have made with FastTech parts. I've got 2 in use each day. Put 1 of those on the Pico and it would be a small set-up for home use and for out and about! It fits easily into even a fairly small purse, too.

I still use other tanks sometimes, too (PT Minis, STM, TTM, TTN, Nautilus Mini, etc.), as well as some older Innokin 16D clearos. However, I just recently bought an Aspire K1 tank and 1.8 BVC coils, on the recommendation of a neighbor who loves his. It's about the size of a PT Mini 3. I haven't quit using it since last Friday! I'm really liking the great flavor, more than enough vapor for me, and that I'm still using the original coil in it. In fact, I'm liking it so much that I ordered and already got 2 more of them!

You might want to also check RMV for some of the tanks and coils that have been mentioned by people, since the code is good for everything sitewide. They carry a pretty good selection of them, too.

A good thing about a choice with drop-in coils is that she wouldn't have to rely on you being around every time a coil needs changing. You could still fix her up with a nice RTA for home, but if she's self-reliant with an easier set-up for day-to-day to begin with, I think her chances for success will be better.

My husband uses the Nautilus Mini because he's not into fussing around with coils and builds on the regular, and it doesn't leak in his pocket. As long as one remembers not to tighten the tank down too much, these are super easy ... though something along the same line with a top-fill would be easier yet.

For an RTA, I do love the KFM 3.

I second the nautilus tank. I really like the top fill and the tank being covered in protective materials. I like the 1.8 coils as well. I think starting with a built in battery is fine if you're looknig to convince her, especially if she's only smoking a small amount now... She can always get a box mod later if she wants one and commits to vaping. I really like aspire products, overall. Coming from heavy smoking usage, DL did NOT work for me, and I just confirmed that last night as my atty finally gunked up completely, right at my bedtime and I couldn't deal with it, then. I just put on the cleto aspire tank (sub-ohm) hadn't used it in days, it was awful.

That said, if she likes pretty things, get her a tesla mod with a pretty tank on top.... She will feel too guilty not to try it :) Your main issue would be finding a tank to put on top that doesn't look awful and is still MTL. Probably someone on here can make a suggestion.
