It seems like the nation is moving away from individual rights for the "common good". In other words, communism.

It's nice that you're making progress and pursuing rational means to remove the ban. Kudos to you.

Also, TLDR all posts.

OTOH....where's that college spirit of days gone by? Since when has banning anything ever worked on a college campus? ;)

What did you say the fine was?

Not valid, but more understandable.

Here in California we have a lottery, and it was promised that all the money would go to education.
I don't know where all the money actually does go, but it CAN'T be going to education, or we wouldn't have an education problem.

I mean, seriously, that is a LOT of money!!!!!

So they tried to pass some proposition in the last election, to raise money for schools in some way or another.
They should have tried to pass a proposition that MADE ALL MONEY from the lottery go to schools like it was supposed to.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic now...
:)

About Half goes to Prizes.

But since 1985, the Schools have done Alright to the tune of 25 Billion. That's Billion with a "B".

And that's 25 Billion that Didn't have to be paid thru Taxes

Contribution to Education

First, you get a warning. Then, you get a $25 fine. If you refuse to stop or leave then they contact the local authorities to get you to stop.

For using an e-cig? Really?

Oh...sorry. My mistake. I thought it was in the USA.... ;) Must be in some...other....country or style of government and/or political system. Nevermind.

What would you suggest a School do after a Warning and a $25 Fine (which BTW - They are not Legally Entitled to Collect or Impose Fines) for someone who Continues to Violate School Policies?

I have a couple of questions... firstly, did you know you were going to a smoke/tobacco free university when you signed up? Can you go off-campus to smoke? Secondly, WHY would you go to a smoke/tobacco/alcohol free university?!?!?! Lol! This is very telling about the different cultures between English and American universities!

I totally understand why you're standing up to them on this but would they really know if you did it on the sly? Would your room-mate spill to the officials etc?

How much support on campus are you getting for this? Is there a vaping community at your campus?

Stereodreamer mentioned charges for trespass. Is trespass a criminal or a civil offense in America? Over here it is civil and the police wouldn't necessarily be able to do anything about it. 'Trespassers will be prosecuted' etc is a legal fallacy- or so I remember. Have you examined the university rules and guidelines which you signed at the start of your course? Did they mention this when you signed the contract or is there a clause stating that they can change and update these at any given time, without notice etc? On this legal note, have you taken any specific legal advice about this? I may be taking this a million steps too far but the UN Declaration of Human Rights states:
Article 27.
(1) Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.

Yeah, I definitely took it too far! But is it not a scientific advancement that pertains to limiting the destructive nature of nicotine addiction on physical health? (This is why I gave up on law!)

When looking for academic papers on vaping etc, I would always start with Google Scholar/ JSTOR. If you do a search on Google Scholar from within campus, the IP address of your institution will be recognized and you'll be able to see which articles you are able to access very quickly and easily.

On a personal note of using e-cigs on campus, my accommodation manager last year was really positive about them and I nearly had a convert! She was quite happy for me to use them in my room although I fear the situation is somewhat changing this year (partially because I think they've changed the sensitivity on the smoke alarms). My doctors (on campus) are very positive about anything that stops people from smoking analogues although I've had a mixed response from fellow students about e-cigs.x

It's just my first two years of college here, so I can save money. Then I'll transfer to a four years university. I can't do it off campus. Next to the college is a smoke free high school. So theres no where to go to smoke. Though you can smoke if you are sitting in your car. They allow you to do that, but thats it. It's possible to do it on the sly, but I just want it un-banned to be safe. This school does a bad enough job at keeping people from smoking regular cigarettes on campus.

Sounds like if they could ban you smoking in your car they would but the thing is, its considered private property in many states and counties so they would have a hard fight enforcing that one.

Legally law enforcement officers cant charge you with a D.W.I if they find you in your car without the keys in the vehicle or on your person. If you admit to it thats another story. They can also charge you with drunk in public the second you step out of the car even if they cant for a D.W.I

This is outrageous! Have our people not suffered long enough? First, our smoke bothered them, so we were banished out into the cold, braving the elements to fill our lungs not only with smoke, but hope. A hope that one day, there would be a place for us. And one day, that hope came, in electronic form. She held us close and told us all was well, and that we were free once again. Her name is vapor. Don't let this man take her. We can't just leave it to you alone mdee4, to defend her. We must stop this tyrant, before he becomes to powerful to stop.

I see in your update you need to put a website together, I suggest just setting up a blog on any number of the free blog hosting sites.

1. I don't know if there's an equivalent to the Community College in the UK, generally most (maybe all) states have public 2 year community colleges with open admission at a very discounted rate from a 4 year school. In many states they also guarantee admission into a state school upon graduating from the CC. I don't know the specifics of Maryland, but here in NJ you go to your county CC, and pay more to go to another county school (unless your county doesn't offer a specific program you want to pursue). So generally he probably doesn't have a choice to not go to this school.

2. My first thought was the same as yours, and I've seen others hint at that as well. I'm sure he can tuck into the bathroom and find places to vape, but the point really is he shouldn't have to.

Yeah, I don't want to hide to use it. I want to prove that it shouldn't be banned at all. Does anyone know any studies on e-cigs conducted by non e-cig users?
