Hi Halons,

A brief history to explain the situation. My husband and I stopped smoking analogs cold turkey four years ago. About a year after we quit, I began dabbling in vaping. I didn't stick with it because I was using some junky kit that was worthless, and I didn't realize there were so many better options out there. My husband never tried vaping, and pretty much scoffed at the idea.

So fast forward to today. I have been vaping with Halo G6 and mini tanks for about a year now, and thats all I use. I have no desire to "upgrade", and I dont like to tinker or worry about separate atomizers, coils, voltage, yada yada yada. I just like a simple no fuss vape, and my G6 set-up gives me that. I am currently vaping 18mg 80/20, and in the process of weening down to 12mg, then hopefully 6mg, but I don't want to go 0mg because I have to have some throat hit.

Now, out of the blue my husband has expressed an interest in vaping. Probably seeing me vaping with my morning coffee or while using the PC has made him nostalgic for the habits he had as a smoker. Like me, he has no desire to have an analog, but he know thinks he'd like to vape. I'm all for this of course, but I have a couple concerns about how to start him off with something he will find satisfying. Here's why:
1. He wants to start and stay with 0mg. That would be fine but he was a much heavier smoker than me (two packs a day vs my one pack).
2. He smoked regular tobacco analogs, and I smoked (and now vape) menthol
3. He is, in general, harder to please than me.

In short, I'm worried that a simple G6 with 0mg juice will not satisfy him, and I also have no clue what flavor to suggest because he doesn't like menthol and says he doesn't want tobacco taste (actually scrunched his face up when I mentioned it, lol)

I thought about getting him a G6 kit and a juice sampler, and if he doesn't like it I will make good use of the hardware myself. But I'm wondering if it wouldnt make more sense to start him off with something like the Triton? I don't know much about it, other than its bigger than a G6, and its manual (something I hate, I need auto batteries!). Before I get one, I'd like to know, can it be used with my G6 mini tanks? Or do you have to deal with separate atomizers that need maintained and replaced? I want something low-fuss, he has a nerve disorder that affects his hands and he's not going to want to fiddle with a bunch of separate parts like that. Also, since he's insisting on 0mg juice, will a Triton deliver more of a punch than he would get on a G6 with 0mg?

I just don't want him deciding on his first day that its all useless, and since I am only experienced with the G6, and menthol juices, I'm not really sure how to guide him into this. Any and all advice is appreciated, thank you!!

The G6 minitanks work on the Triton battery; however, the draw is tighter than the normal Triton tank. I don't have a G6 (yet) so I can't compare the draw of the minitank on a G6 battery.

The Triton tank needs replacement coils (if you burn them out or something), but I haven't had that happen (yet).

It's still pretty low maintenance; I did a good bit of research before buying my Triton starter and it seemed like a solid 'no-hassle' kit, as well as a very complete one.

Sorry I can't answer any more of your questions; I'm rather new to vaping myself.

Good luck!

Hi Amy87. Here are my thoughts on your questions. First of all, that was a very detailed and informed post, so kudos. I've seen lots of people just post "What should I buy? Help" and the answers could be infinite and unhelpful. But anyway...

Since he was a 2 pack-a-day cigarette smoker I'm going to just go ahead and say he won't be satisfied with the G6. I use them at my office to take "smoke breaks", but I can tell you that as soon as I get home in the evening I grab my Triton as fast as possible and that does the trick.

What I would recommend is that you skip the G6 and get him a couple Triton batteries, and then a sampling of a pack of cartomizers, a G6 Minitank, and a Triton tank. They can ALL be used on the Triton batteries, and go in that order from least-to-most hassle-free to use. As you probably know, you don't have to refill the cartomizers and can just throw them out when they're empty. Then you have the Minitanks, where you can refill them but you don't have to worry about replacing the coil head. Lastly, the Triton Tanks are AWESOME but you do have to unscrew a very small piece to replace the coil head... although it's extremely simple to do, if he has bad hands he could get frustrated.

As for the juice, if he doesn't want menthol or tobacco, Halo's remaining options are limited but still there. There's coffee, chocolate, mint (but not menthol), pina colada: Gourmet E-liquid | Dessert E-liquid Flavors | HaloCigs

Hope this helps, good luck.

Like Amanda said get the samplers for each individual flavor at 0 nic but let him read the description of the flavors and the reviews and order what he is interested in. You have the G6 let him try his flavors on your equipment. He may prefer the cartos that came with your kit over the mini tanks. If he still wants more he may want to try the Triton. Let him decide.

1. It makes sense for him to want 0 nic, he has been a non-smoker for 4 years. It doesn't matter that he was a heavier smoker than you were, he kicked that habit 4 years ago.

2. Has he tried your menthol flavors, alot of non-menthol smokers like Kringle's Curse or Malibu? And alot of non-menthol and menthol people like Tribeca and Voodoo he may like those.

3. He may be harder to please and he may not like any cig-a-like juice flavors. He may prefer fruit or bakery flavors. If you can find a vaping shop near you that allows you to sample flavors, take him there.

Remember your husband has been a non-smoker for 4 years, congratualtions on that by the way, he is way past the nicotine addiction, the needing something in your hand addiction, the hand to mouth addiction, the big throat hit and he learned to deal with everyday stress without turning to a cigarette. What are his reason for wanting to start vaping now when he wasn't interested before. Find out what he wants. I would start him out on the G6 kit for sure because if he finds he wants something different or chooses he doesn't really want to vape then you have extra batteries that you can still use. ;)

And congratulation for being analog free for 4 years, wow, and welcome to you Amy87.

I say let him try yours. Order some 0mg for him and let him have at it. If he doesn't like it then go for the Triton. I love mine. I never got around to ordering the G6 kit. I was planning on it for use in public BUT, I've had no problems with my Triton in public. In fact, people are so intrigued by it, they come up and ask me about it which I think is great because you can actually educate people with it. Getting back to your hubby, just let him decide for himself. I don't blame him at all for wanting to go with the 0mg. If I had gone 4 years with NO nicotine I wouldn't dare jump back into it. It's the devil! LOL....good luck and you will get lots of good advice here.

Thanks everyone. I've been off analogs for 4 years as well, but I need the nicotine for throat hit. As for why he wants to vape now, I have no idea. It was the same with me, I had been off analogs for over a year when I first tried vaping, gave that up for 2 years and just started back last year. I didn't miss the analogs, but I missed the comforting act of smoking, if that makes sense? I am assuming its the same for him.

Anyway, after I posted, he did give my G6 a puff. He didn't want to at first since my juice has nic, but then he said one hit wouldn't hurt. It was kinda funny. I briefed him on how to draw on it, and he drew a little too hard and almost choked! I used a mini tank of Cinnamon Roll, since he doesn't like menthol and those are the only two flavors I have. He did like the flavor, and I told him that without the nic he wouldn't get the TH like that. He seems to think the the G6 is ok for now. So I'm going to order him some 0mg Cinnamon Roll (I don't get my juice from Halo, I LOVE their hardware, but their juice just isn't for me). I had already ordered some new mini tanks and a couple of new G6 batteries the other day before he approached me, so we will just set him up with those for now. If he likes it though, I have a sneaky feeling he will be wanting a Triton soon :vapor:

I had a similar concern about it that Evie Luv raise, why would he want to start vaping? However, if his alternative might be starting smoking again, then I guess vaping is the lesser of 2 evils.

Just wondering, he isn't trying a lung hit I hope. Mouth first. It ain't a cigarette.

But you plan sounds sound. lol

G6 is a great setup.

And a Triton soon? He might go all provari by July!!!

Just piping in, I started vaping a few weeks ago but I haven't smoked a cigarette in nearly 14 years after quitting cold turkey. My boyfriend is a mostly off, on-again off-again smoker (one of those annoying people who can pick it up and put it down) and he was SO HAPPY when I ventured that I was interested in vaping. Now we're both in feet-first. There were many, many things we loved about smoking, and vaping satisfies all of those without all of the things we didn't like (the health risks, the immediate health impact like coughing/wheezing, the smell, the ashes, the ashtrays, the yellow staining, the fire risk, and so on).

In addition I've lost 10 pounds because now I can more easily differentiate when I am actually hungry and I don't snack anymore. Like, at all. I haven't really been drinking much either except when we're out, where before I might have a cocktail or 3 every night at home. Vaping satisfies my rabid sweet tooth.

I should add, though, that I started with 0mg and moved to 6mg, which is where I'll stay. I like the TH from the 6mg and it seems to help me focus better. I got a few sample bottles of 12mg at a vape meet but can't vape them because they make me sick. I may wind up getting some 100mg nicotine to add to the 0mg to bring it to 6mg as I find the 0mg is okay, but even though I like the flavor I like nicotine too. :) At 100mg it shouldn't dilute the flavor too much.

P.S. The friend who got me into vaping also vapes with nicotine and he and his wife own a vape charm company are are very active in the local vaping community - but he's never smoked. :)

Exactly!! I think its hard for people to understand because it seems like the majority of members here used vaping to quit analogs, so to them it was just a means to stop smoking. Those of us who stopped smoking years ago and did not vape all that time understand that no matter how long you're off analogs, or how happy you are to be rid of the yucky aspects of them, you still miss the "comforting" things about smoking, like relaxing with morning coffee, or hanging out with friends for a drink, or that after dinner puff. Those are the things I missed. There was no way I would go back to smelling like an ashtray or corroding my lungs, so I was thrilled that I could get back some of the comforting things I got from smoking, WITHOUT the smoke.
The nicotine means nothing to me. Nicotine was not what scared me about smoking, it was the smoke and chemicals that worried me. I am tapering down my nic level, but I have no inclination to do away with it completely.

I would try to find 12mg of the same flavor as your 0mg and just mix them 50:50. Or find 12mg of some complimentary flavor. It'd be a lot harder to mess up the ratios.

Amy87, After thinking about it, I now realize I totally agree. When I was quit, I still wanted a cig, actually, wanted the benefit of a cig without the (fill in).

So, Best of luck!!!

If they weren't such expensive juices like Five Pawns (I have 3 bottles at 0mg), Suicide Bunny, etc. I would definitely consider that. :) To buy doubles would be too much.

Aw, come on... Ya know you are gonna vape through it. I buy Halo, which is one of the more pricey juices, and I'm still OK, cause it's a quarter of the price of cigs.

And, aren't you deserving of vaping great juice? (dilute the flavor? BAH!).

Maybe get the smallest sample at 24 or 36mg, just to kick up the TH!
