I went to my local gizmo store that sells every knick knack and then some, and they had some 18650 batteries!

They had two kinds. one kind I can identify, unfortunately unprotected. But here they are. They appear to be used commercially in laptops, of all things. I strangely feel safer knowing that.
Lishen LR18650. 2200mah at 0.2c

http://www.batteryonestop.com/baotongusa/products/datasheets/li-ion/TY-LR18650-2200.pdf

They work great in my vamo v3. They work great in my mech mods but I have MNKE's so I wont use them in mech's - and they're li-ions so even though I have fuses, that's a no (for me).

and then there are these.

I stripped one to see if there were any more markings or protection.
They work great! But I don't know what they are and I'd like to. they have some labeling on them but my google-fu is weak for them.
they say "A" "MHIA2b" "023150"

any battery pros possibly help me identify them? I talked to the guys at the store - they don't know jack. lol.

They have probably 1000 of the Lishen's and 200 of the red ones left.

Maximum Discharge Current:2CmA

Maximum that battery can push is 2C (A "C" rating on Li Ion is the mAh rating times the "C")
That battery can only push 4400mA safely...or 4.4amps (these are NOT high current drain batteries!)
They should work safely in the Vamo it has overcurrent protection...max draw at 15watts with a 1.5Ω coil and the low end voltage is 3.6vdc [Vamo will pull more juice from battery to buck/boost to most wattage](usually below most sold coils..they usually go as low as 1.8Ω) is approx 2.5amp

Unless you run this in a sub ohm situation it "should" be ok...Vamo won't fire on anything less than 1Ω I believe

The 'C' rating of a battery or battery pack is equal to the capacity to suppy power for one hour. This is measured in Amperes or Amps. For example. your 4400 mA pack has a C rating of 4400 mA. Often the term 'C' is discussed as a measure of how much current can be drawn or charged back into a battery. For example the new crop of Lipo cells can have a current rating of 20C which means you can safely draw 20 times the capacity from the cell. In other words if you have a 1000 mA battery with a 20C rating you can draw 20 Amps (20,000 mA) from it. You may also see specifications stating a charge rate for a cell of 2C. Using the same 1000 mA battery as an example that would mean you can charge the battery at 2000 mA safely.

IR is the rating of a cell's internal resistance and is measured in Ohms.

Baditude will be here shortly to fill you in on the proper IMR batteries to use

Get proper batteries...don't blow your face off

right, I noticed they are not high drains which is a big downside... I'm trying my best to learn about batteries :D I was hoping they'd be good as I can get LOTS of them and I know how expensive batteries can be on some sites. I'm probably wrong and feel free to tell me, but a battery like that is best suited for variable volt mods if they're even worth it? i think outside of the vape world, those would be camera batteries?

I do have proper batteries - I just saw these and thought "oh snap - cheap batteries. I'll buy some and research them. If they are good, sweet! if not, oh well, they can go in a flashlight" I have a curiosity problem, lol.

do not use a low drain battery in a vv mod ever!
These look like used batteries from a laptop cell, and there is no way I would use these or reccomend these for any vaporizer with a 4 amp rating.

Getting old repeating this 5 times a day
A Regulated mod has to draw MORE current then up convert that current to the voltage you set. and if the battery isnt strong enough two things can happen,
A the mod will deliver subpar voltage at best and seem very weak.
or
B the battery will become strained and go into overload.

this is for the provari but it is relevant to ALL regulated mods.

Haha Everytime I read explode or hear someone say it I think of that. It's good that they'll work fine in the flashlight, it was gifted to me and I've never put anything in it. Once i started vaping I remembered I had it, but didn't want to put one of my good bat's into it.

The one thing that has been overwhelming in vaping is the batteries. There's so many different ones to sift through, so much info. I grasp some basic info about them, or so I hope. When I first started and got my mods, I didn't vape for a few days because I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to blow a hand or my face off, as I saw a few batteries vent quite nasty like at work in some of our tools due to shorts and people leaving things on the buttons to keep the device on.

yea I hear ya, when i started you got an aw or an efest, if you wanted to take a little risk you got a trustfire lol. now there seems to be a new battery every week and some dealers are more in this game for the profits and post whatever batteries they can get cheap.
hang in there we are in this together. and im glad to see more people starting to ask more questions about batteries.

because sometimes when they go it can be violent, a month or so ago a home made mod exploded and blew out the guys teeth and part of his jaw then set the house on fire.

I have 2 ultrafire 350's I bought a while ago that I avoid using. the batteries that came with my kamry didnt even get charged. they're in my desk. I have some samsung Li-Ion's that I paid a little to much for when I got my first Vamo and I don't use them as much now unless it's a mod with some sort of safety feature. I try to only use Li-MN if at all possible.

On a side note - why would anyone put the word "fire" in a battery name? it doesn't sound good.

Any batteries from this site are the "recommended" not the cheapest...but these are the ones they will work and not 'splody 'splody!

Genuine AW Batteries at RTD Vapor

I am currently rocking these...
http://www.rtdvapor.com/online-store/batteries/efest18650ft-detail
I get 2 days of hard vaping out of them...but since I have 2, I swap them out before they full discharge (which is better for Li Ion batteries)

http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

if you hurry...these are VERY high drain batteries with slightly lower mAh rating, these are good for sub ohming!
