As I'm waiting for my first order of DIY in the mail I'm messing around with a e juice calculator. But trying to figure out if one is making complex juices like with several flavors and each one is recommended at ( let's just say all are recommending) 5% flavoring and want to use four flavors so would your end result be a sum off 20% flavor or would the sum of the four flavors equal to the end result of 5% total id appreciate any input

All depends on the strength of the flavours. Some of them can be up to 20% using your example. Others have flavours that are overpowering. It also depends on what equipment you are using. The e-juice calculator usually comes with samples or members' own recipes. They would give you the percentages also.

As a rule of thumb first try to taste each flavour by itself and find the percentage that you like at each flavour. You can always look up on the various threads that talks about each manufacturer. Usually there is summary of percentages in quite a few manufacturers and that should be a good place to start.

birdieman has good advice for starting.

Now that I have mixed a few 5-10 ml I'm getting better at using the e-juice me up calculator flavor percentages just from smelling the open bottles or from memory of making sucky mixes. I like all the risks of making my own mixes by experimenting, though I have studied other people's recipes and technique. I have yet to make a decent tobacco flavor. I may have to use someone else's recipe to start with.

If you already know what flavors you like, then it's just a matter of finding recipes and tweaking them to your liking. If you take DIY mixing to the hobby level then there aren't any rules with flavor percentages.
