Hey dudes, n00b here. I'm a 33-yo software architect from Belgium.
Started vaping for a second time recently, did it once for a few months last year with a Joyetech Ego Aio, but started A-smoking again because I didn't really understand the maintenance required and I don't come across any vape stores regularly.
Received a SMOK guardian III pipe from a friend last year 'cause he wasn't using it anymore and it was sitting in my closet for a while, now I've taken it back out, replaced the TFV4 with a TFV8 Baby Beast, bought some eliquids and some .15 ohm coils at the local store (online prohibition in Belgium), and been vaping along nicely so far.
I want to get ahead of the inevitable failure when I run out of ejuice, coils or my mod/battery dies. in terms of ejuice and coils that's relatively simple, just stock up, but in terms of a mod I'm looking for something to upgrade to so I can keep my epipe as backup. So I've been reading up here.
Welcome and glad you joined.
I have had good results with the Eleaf Isticks. I rarely read any problems with the brand, might be worth a look.

Congrats on throwing away all your tobacco!

The remainder of my last pack, I gave away to the homeless over a few days.... I mean, I was like, "No sense wasting this." Heh, I should have kept them for my husband, his quit attempt grows weaker all the time... :) He won't vape, and he won't let me buy him tobacco or tubes either (we used an electronic injector) and I've noticed he's been coughing more lately... He's smoking these dreadful rollies that he makes out of some old, stale additive free pipe tobacco we used to thin our (expensive) America Spirit tobacco. Maybe I need to find that stash and give THAT to the homeless, it's so depressing watching him actually HURT his health more by refusing to admit this quit attempt (at least right now) is a massive fail. I've given up.

But, congrats to YOU that's awesome! :) Happy vaping!

Anna
Ouch, really sad to hear that. Yeah, but I've been down that road. Smoking without a filter 'cause I run out of filters, smoking bad .... 'cause it's all I got at the moment... Never again! Wish there was some way to obligate all those night shops and news agents to stock up on liquids and coils though, that's the only good thing about tobacco, it's never far away.

I looked at that one the 75W Pico. Especially because it charges with USB cable and they also sell SS coils. Problem is the coils are much harder to find for it, while everybody stocks the smok ones. Also, I didn't like the controls. I've had bad controls with the Guardian and I wanted something simple to adapt. That touch screen on the G Priv spoke to me. Also one battery which was my biggest gripe with the guardian, always looking for a charger.

Still might get one if TC with the TFV8 turns out to be difficult though. They're pretty available as well. Maybe I don't need .15 ohm coils.

Thanks Anna. This is definitely not the last mod I'm buying, I'll probably get another one soon like that Tesla Steampunk you mentioned, will buy that over the web though and have it delivered in the Netherlands.. Just didn't have the patience ;) There's a whole lot of devices out there, I'm just looking for a few to tick all my boxes. Just today I threw away my last pack of tobacco, and I'm not looking back, happy to get rid of them.

I have a feeling in a few years we will really see vape mods in the mainstream and they will be getting better and better. Mostly I'm hoping we won't go through liquids that fast and coils will last longer. Probably TC might become standard and rebuilding coils will become easier and easier. If I look at how far cell phones have come in the past decade, you know there's a lot of progress to be coming in vaping.

Looking at you, OnePlus ;)

Probably will be looking into rebuildables in a few months, but right now I'm trying to absorb all the knowledge I can and enjoy it as much as I can without having to feel bad about trashing my health and stinking up the place.
TC is like buddhist meditation breathing techniques, deep inhale for like 10 seconds for the same result. I used to love it. Wire wrapping cant really get any easier then a coil jig, stick wire in one end and turn the other end... done. When the TFV4 came out I joked about something very close to a TFV12 and 4 battery box mods to run it all day so today I'll joke and say the future is a mod the size of a car battery wih a hooka like tube that attaches to the 64mm TFV36s drip tip. Control it with a bluetooth app and it shoots random colored lazers everywhere LOL.

Couldn't have said it better myself .... Two factors contribute to the rapid advances......... One being the miniaturization of electronics (nano tech), and the other being software........ Of course, you being a software architect, you realize this..... I am also a programmer and love to delve into programming languages.... I like the "C" based languages the most......... At any rate, welcome to the forum.

Someone will do it, Smok most likely... give it 2 years tops.

Let's hope it's NOT Smok, given the fact that the QM guy in the factory naps on the job. But if they do, I will be horrified/entertained by the results....

And, lets not forget my favorite company of all, Kangertech, LOL. Though smok is really going for the gold medal of unreliability at this point...

(Apologies to all satisfied KT and Smok users. I know... When they're great, they're great. :) )

I look at it like what would I have spent of cigs? Cheap mods that don't last are fine, even higher priced mods something will go wrong eventually. If I ever get a cheap mod that lasts me a year with no troubles at all I'd be happy.

I have a cheap mod that has withstood more than a year of abuse, but it certainly isn't KT or Smok. That said, I'm not looking to vape at 300 watts, so the mods I'm looking at probably don't have all the functionality and complexity of some of the higher end KT/Smok products. To be fair. I'm in love with the Steampunk Nano, but I totally get that some people want more power etc.

I don't expect my mods to live forever, but I do expect them to work right out of the gate, I've seen a lot of posts on here about that NOT happening. I have also seen happy users (hence, my disclaimer). And also, you know, it's the squeaky wheel effect, too, probably. :)

Yeah I just meant its not just Smok and KT. I wouldn't call the SteamPunk Nano a cheap mod, more mid ranged like mine. The cheap brands come in kits for around the same price with $30-40 tanks on them so essentially they are $30-40 mods.

I feel you. However, I've had the same idea about that as about Samsung. While they're not always perfect, they do innovate. Look at their OLED screens. They're ridden with issues, their qled is a ridiculously bad marketing ploy, but there is nothing like their OLED screens. Sure they have to throw most of them in the trash, but when their process starts working there will be nothing like it.

I have found that this was the best way to go for me to make sure that I don't slip up and find myself with a lit cig in my hand. Over time I identified problem scenarios and bought equipment that made it more convenient for me to vape than to smoke in those scenarios. It's like you have to engage in psychological warfare with yourself. But it really does work well.

You're right. Sadly, I feel like our government already has the worst enemy down. Well, not just my government, all governments with the rules. I don't mind regulating eliq and devices, but the fact that you can get tobacco in every corner store and supermarket, but to get a refill on your liquid or coils you almost have to take the day off, irks me to no end. They compare vaping to doing nothing or they say it's in the same ball park as smoking, but has anyone ever compared the hazards of vaping to, say, processed meats or even milk? Could turn the world upside down.

yeah if most folks knew what was in the processed meats/food that they buy from the store it would probably scare them half to death... And people wonder why the current cancer rate is now 1 out of 2 people (50%) for males and one out of three (33.3%) for Women  .... not to forget about all of the hormonal and metabolic dysfunctions cause by all the weird growth hormones added to animals and consequently in the meats you purchase.

That's why it's hard to get people to stop smoking. There is literally nothing that's good for you or healthy if you only look at the dangers.

They deal in absolutes when they talk about vaping, while the only absolute is that everything is relative.

My wife was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a couple of years ago and given the usual meds and a stupid diet plan to follow......... None of that stuff worked very well but when my wife heard about a Dr. that guaranteed that he could get type 2 diabetes under control she went to him..... He claimed that type 2 diabetes can 100% be controlled through only diet and without the need for meds ....... The diet he placed her on is very strict and she is only allowed to eat healthy non-processed foods......... Sure enough, within 2 months my wife's sugar levels became normal and they have been normal for over a year now........ She is now feeling better than she has in her entire life.... This Doctor explained to my wife that the processed foods people eat are slowly killing them due to all of the stuff that has been done to the food and animals......... There are plenty of healthy foods still on the market that people can eat, they just have to do a bit of research........ The Doctor explained that one of the biggest killers in the American diet is SUGAR.....It is loaded into most foods, soda's and about everything else you can imagine.

That's great. Literally a few hours ago I watched the documentary 'what the health' on Netflix, I immediately decided to start going off animal products gradually. No sense giving up smoking if you're still poisoning yourself in other ways. Problem is finding food that isn't bad. Got any resources to share about what to look out for?

I don't have a link to point you to but I can list the things to stay away from for maximum health. When you read this list it will seem like a person isn't allowed to eat anything lol ... But, that simply is not true because there are many things a person can eat........ I will message you and send the list to you so that we don't get off topic on this thread and hog the thread........
