Does the atomiser vaporise the wire`s metal which found in the atomiser with continueous using?

not the metal but a wick material wound inside it

And it doesn't vaporize it but it gets all charcoal-like, doesn't transport liquid anymore because of that.

I have always felt that the wick is the weak link in the atomizer. What is that wick material made out of?
