Hey. So I impulsively ordered the joye 510 starter kit from healthcabin cuz the price was ridiculous, but a couple days later I found the 510-t starter kit for a nice price at timeeast. The 510-t comes with 280mah manual bats instead of 180, which to me seems well worth the extra couple bucks. I ended up cancelling my healthcabin order, and got the T. Now I'm wondering...
1. did I make a foolish decision?
2. is timeeast a reputable dealer? because i liked the healthcabin site more.
3. why is the 510 atomizer incompatible with the 510-t battery?
4. what exactly is a tank? Is that part of the cartridge or the atomizer?
5. can i 'downgrade' the 510-t to a 510 if i don't like the tank feature?
6. they say that PG juices are preferred with the tank, but I'm really thinking I'd like to vape VG (or 80%VG, 20%PG). Will the tank work ok with VG?

haha, i know these questions might be quite ridiculous, but ive been trying to absorb as much info as possible in the past couple days, and now i feel like im in way over my head. i love the concept of vaping, yet haven't even received a PV yet.

thanks for any help offered, or any links that you may refer me to. :vapor:

The tank is in place of the cartridge and is what holds the juice. I'm not a fan of slim ecigs but if I had to use one I'd get some cartos to use. Atty and cartridge doesn't hold alot of juice and can be inconsistent. I'm not a fan of those types of tanks either. I'd get some Boge 3.0ohm cartos and use them. A carto is a cartridge and atomizer in one and most people prefer them. They can hold alot more juice so you can refill less and their alot more consistant.
For a slim ecig make sure you only use standard resistance cartos, low resistance cartos are for bigger battery PVs and could ruin your battery.
High VG juices do not work well in tanks and clogs up cartos faster. Thick juices won't wick as well and if you chain vape you can easily singe the wick bc it can't wick the juice fast enough. I recommend using 30% VG or less. I prefer 80/20 And it work alot better in cartos and carto tanks

1. I still use a joye 510 most of the time... I use an atty and a clear tank cart like this:
BreezEsmokes - Premium Electronic Cigarettes this tank cart does NOT require a special atty

3. I won't swear to it, but as I understand it, the 510 atty is not incompatible with a 510-T battery. the difference between the 510 and the 510-T is the atty and tank. the 510-T atty has a thing that pokes a hole in the 510-T tank. a regular 510 atty doesn't have the thing that pokes a hole. I believe the 510 and the 510-T have identical batteries. I do not own a 510-T kit. but I do have the short and mega 510 batteries.

4. the tank is instead of a cartridge (cart) and instead of a cartomizer (carto). you need an atty to use a tank or cart. the carto is a cart and atty put together in one item.

5. yes

hopefully someone will come along to clarify, correct or add to my answers <G>

I've had my 510-T for 3 weeks, asked pretty much the same questions and still have a lot of confusion. However, I LOVE my 510-T! I started with 50/50 juice and have since changed to 75vg/25pg and enjoy the vapor tremendously. I clean my atomizers about once a week and have had no problems. 1 died quickly, but that happens. One word of caution from "my" experience is that my kit came with soft plastic, no-fill cartridges that did not hold up even a few hours. I had a lot of wasted liquid those first few days and ended up smoking a couple of analogs out of frustration. As soon as I received my replacement order for hard plastic 510-T cartridges I have had no problem with leaks of any kind.

I bought my first cartos today. Nice, but not a huge difference, for me at least, and no easier than atomizer/cartridges. I can see where the additional TH will be nice first thing in the mornings. I have 15 cartridges that I assure are filled each night when I plug in my batteries, cap them and fill my carry case for the morning. For "me" its no different than putting an extra "pack" in my handbag and checking to see if I need to stop at the store for another "carton". Changing carts is quick and simple.

Your "system" and "style" will develop to suit your tastes and needs and ECF is a great place to learn what's available and get great ideas and loads of support. Welcome and best of luck in building your PV!!

1. did I make a foolish decision?

I don't know what you mean by a "foolish decision". If what you bought works for you, there isn't anything foolish about it.

2. is timeeast a reputable dealer? because i liked the healthcabin site more.

I don't know anything about this vendor.

3. why is the 510 atomizer incompatible with the 510-t battery?

It shouldn't be incompatible. Both of the batteries are 510 so anything of 510 standard resistance will work on them both. "510" is the battery threading and nothing more. The numbers distinguish only the battery threading...i.e. 901, 801, kr808D-1, and so on.

4. what exactly is a tank? Is that part of the cartridge or the atomizer?

The tank is just what it is, a tank that you fill with your eliquid. You then seat the tank inside of the tank atomizer. It will pierce the tank and allow the eliquid to flow to the heating element.

5. can i 'downgrade' the 510-t to a 510 if i don't like the tank feature?

I wouldn't say it's a "downgrade". I'm not a tank fan but I know a lot of people enjoy them. I prefer a Boge 3.0ohm cartomizer on my smaller batteries.

6. they say that PG juices are preferred with the tank, but I'm really thinking I'd like to vape VG (or 80%VG, 20%PG). Will the tank work ok with VG?

You would be better off using a 50/50mix. Too much VG causes the juice to be too thick and not allow for fast wicking. If you still choose to go that route, you may have to use distilled water to thin it down a tad.

The 510-t comes with 280mah manual bats instead of 180, which to me seems well worth the extra couple bucks. I ended up cancelling my healthcabin order, and got the T. Now I'm wondering...
1. did I make a foolish decision?

Not really. Manual batts will be best, if it has any type of leak at all then you don't have to worry about it killing your batteries. Plus, 280mah isn't great but it's going to be a hell of a lot better than the 180 mah batts that you were originally thinking about getting.
2. is timeeast a reputable dealer? because i liked the healthcabin site more.

Not sure since I haven't heard of them. Also, they aren't on this forum as well. So, it's gonna be a gamble honestly.
3. why is the 510 atomizer incompatible with the 510-t battery?

The 510-t atty is constructed somewhat like a hybrid atty. Meaning that there isn't a bridge and the hole on the bottom is a bit larger. So, if you were to use it like a regular atomizer then your going to be getting leakage since it doesn't hold juice and you'll be getting a LOT of dry hits. Also, there is a piercing plate on it. Just like an ego-T.
4. what exactly is a tank? Is that part of the cartridge or the atomizer?
The proper name of it is a Tank Cartridge. So, that's a completely separate part from the atomizer itself. It's shaped just like a cartridge but, instead of filler material. It has a cap on the bottom (with a hole in it to let the piercing plate be inserted. Taking the cap off. You can fill it with as much juice as it can allow for it to hold.

5. can i 'downgrade' the 510-t to a 510 if i don't like the tank feature?
It's already been addressed on this thread. So, I won't be going into that.

6. they say that PG juices are preferred with the tank, but I'm really thinking I'd like to vape VG (or 80%VG, 20%PG). Will the tank work ok with VG?

80/20, 70/30, and 60/40 will work in a tank. Anything higher then that will be to thick for it to wick properly. You will also want to shy away from dark colored juices since those will easily gunk up the coil. Which will require you to clean it. Meaning you will have to pop off the piercing plate. Some people are not willing to go through that. So, you can make your choice in that department.

Although, if you really want to use 100% VG then Good Prophets is VERY thin:

GoodProphets.com - Your view into the world of vaping...

Virgin Vapor will also be able to thin down their VG juices for you as well. You just have to notify them:

Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

One warning - if it's an automatic 510-T then it's charger cable may damage (as in kill) other normal 510 batteries. I say MAY because it's only the real 510-T automatic charging cable that causes the damage and SOME vendors ship 510-T autos with a normal 510 cable (and I believe manuals as well come with a normal cable). the one other known 510 cables that can kill other 510's (in a different way) is FS510 - it's reverse polarity so don't ever buy that kind as replacement batteries.

Thank you all for the quick and very informative replies. I guess the 510-t will be a great vaporizer for me. ill just pick up some spare 510 atties and carts for when im goin tankless, and this boge 3.0 cartomizer u guys speak of for when im feelin a lil freaky. Ive been trying to look into timeeast and it seems like they actually might be decent: ok shipping/good customer service. Ill post somethin on my experience with them. I just don't want to get some counterfeit goods or DOA trash.

hairball, u really cleared things up for me about how the numbers reflect battery threading. Along those lines...I will be looking to make a passthru. Has anyone found a radioshack/home depot connector with 510 threading? I know some models use the M coaxial, but not the 510. Most people use old dead batteries as their connector, but hopefully i won't have one of these yet.

so excited. thanks again!

I melted a manual battery on the 510-t automatic charger. The light cap on the end was completely melted and the button looked like it was liquid. So don't put your manual batteries on the automatic battery charger.

That being said, i like the 510-t attys far more than i did the standard 510's. At least until i found about dripping. I've switched over to ce2 and boge cartomizers now, but i still keep a couple 510 standard attys kicking around for dripping my strong cinnamon flavors.

Been using the low resistance 510-T for a while now, and it's definitely an awesome system for when you're on the go; take mine to work every night. I've switched to the SmokTech dual coil tank/cartomizer DCT v2 for home use, where I'm not so concerned with accidentally dropping and/or breaking it, but the 510-T setup is a keeper, definitely. So yeah, not foolish at all!

And no question is ridiculous when you're getting into vaping, the only ridiculous questions are the ones you don't ask :) The real ridiculous thing is that we smoked for so long before switching to a far healthier alternative!

I've had my 510-t for a few weeks. Once I got used to the feel of it I haven't had any problems. At the moment I'm going with a 95% PG 5% VG mix because my stronger base hasn't arrived. But I must say the juice is flowing incredibly well, and the lack of VG vapour is mostly made up for by the increased flow. But I'm going through the juice alot quicker. Good times.
