Will it turn on with no topper?

If your topper has a short, the battery should turn off as soon as you fire. Hopefully!

If not, maybe just a defective unit. It happens. If that's the case, see if you can return it.

And "fully charged" does mean you've had it on charge until the charger light goes green, yes?

So it turns on without a topper?

And shuts down when you put either one on? (And they work on another battery?)

Then you might be screwing it down too hard, compressing the o-ring under the battery contact and causing it to short there. Try this: start to fasten the topper on so the first thread or two "catches." Then screw it down until it just touches, and then just a tiny bit more. It only needs to be snug, not wrench tight. It's a common problem - we tend to think (generally correctly!) that electrical connections need to be TIGHT, but in vapeland, it's just snug.

Kent started a thread some time back on potential problems with dual coils on dual coils on ego batts:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ego-type-models/560117-dual-coils-egos.html

So that might also be worth looking at as the problem, even though you say they worked before. Repeated stress can lead to a failure.

Or, hopefully, you're just putting them on too tight!

coincident posting :)

I'm not absolutely certain what the problem may be - it may be the PWM or something else. And the build up of gunk on a dual coil has a multiplier effect on ohms vs. on a single coil. There are many posts on shorts on eGo's, when a coil goes below @1.3 ohms. First noted by Scottbee, I believe, on his Battery Surprise thread when he took out two Rivas within about 20 seconds :) I had a similar experience. Vaping a joye 510 1.5ohm coil on an eGo works well until or unless you have an eliquid flavor that is very dark, has particulates in the eliquid or just the 'larger molecules' of the darker flavors (says Kurt :) which can gunk up a coil and reduce (or in some cases increase) the ohms. Mech mods and other non-PWM batts?? ... can handle this stuff rather well - so there's no 'community wide problem with dual coils' but, imo, eGo type users should likely avoid them unfortunately.

Thanks. I gotta get myself a single coil. Which one do you recommend?

After trying the Vision stardust, iclear, protanks, aerotanks, evods, aspire and others, I've found that the Kanger T3S is the best for me - I like the extra capacity 3ml but if you like the smaller size the T3S mini (1.6ml) is also good. Less maintenance, less juice in the mouth problems, they don't leak and when the draw gets tight, you can get another month or two out of them by throwing them in 151 proof vodka for about an hour. I like the 1.8 ohm coil for stronger flavors and 2.2 ohm coil for lighter flavors. See the 'Help deciding' thread here for some links to vendors - although they're available in a lot of places.
