Hi guys,

After failing with the A7 rba, I purchased a chalice I hoping to have better luck with it. Because I was having trouble with my coils/wicks, I asked the seller to kindly rebuild it for me before posting.

Anyways, it arrived in the post today. 32ga Kanthal wrapped around the wick 4 times with a resistance of 1.5ohms.
I noticed her coils were evenly spaced out, unlike mine which I tried to get as close to each other as possible.

Anyways, I fired her up at 3.7v and I'm getting the same result! Smoke, not vapour!
I am making sure the wick is nice and wet before I fire my mod. What the hell am I doing wrong, its driving me crazy lol.

Does the wick need to be broken in or something? Why am I getting smoke? I don't get it :( There really needs to be a good tutorial for this stuff :(

I have experienced the same thing. I haven't given up on my A7 yet. I get closer each time. I have had the best experience using cotton wick, but I find the vape is dry and tasteless. This is only day 2, so may I just need to break it in. I'm finding that with ANY coils that I've built, if I don't squank it for EVERY hit, it's not satisfying or it tastes like metal. Why isn't it wicking juice from the cup in the A7??!! I'm just as frustrated as you.

Fire the atty with the cap off and look for any glowing red pieces of wire. This is a hot spot. If one spot of the wire glows red before any of the others do, then you need to correct it. So, find the hot spot, then take a darning needle or a nail and try to reshape the wire so that that spot is atleast touching the wick. You will find hot spots in places that are too far away from the wick. The burn you are getting is because that one spot is not wet which means that coil is getting too hot and burning. That's what you're tasting.

I am squonking and getting the wick nice and wet, but even the first hit is smokey. Thinking about trying cotton or ss mesh.
Any other tips or feedback? I'm going crazy here! And ready to throw this chalice through the window, lol, if only it didn't cost so much.
I ended up throwing my a7 into the ocean while on a fishing trip. Maybe the fishies could use a nice paperweight ;)

Fired it up without the cap and no red spots while the wick is wet.
Continued burning until it dried out.

When it did dry out and start to glow, I didn't see any spots which were hotter than the rest and it seemed they all went red at the same time.

When I enter your ohms & volts I get 9,12+ watts.(some people like it hot)

A 2.5 coil would get you nearer 5 watts. (most vapers seemingly prefer around 5ish watts)

I hope that helps & here is a link to the calcultaor I used.

Ah yes, I didn't even think of that. Your liquid could be culprit. Sometimes, the liquid you use can't take the heat and instead of just vaporizing, it will burn. What kind of juice are you using? Also, how many strands of wick is the coil wrapped around? I did this in the beginning and found that it was a big no no. When you wrap a coil, use a large needle or small nail and place your wicks on that (probably 2-3 1mm wicks for lr coils) and wrap your wire around the nail and wicks fairly snug. When you pull the nail out, your coils will be near perfectly wrapped not too tight around the wick. Wrapping the coil around the wick too tight will cut off any chance at wicking the juice to the coil while it is firing.

OR, you could try MISTer E's Spin E coil. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/346524-spin-e-coil-sure-coil-e-wind-e.html

Haven't gotten around to trying that yet... Looks promising

Can anyone please describe how loose or tight do I wrap the kanthal around the wick?
Since I'm tasting burnt wick i'm assuming thats where i'm having trouble.
I've tried looser and tighter but just can't get it :(

I've tried some cotton wick instead of silica but still getting that burnt taste. I can't taste the Watermelon eliquid i'm vaping but that may be because I've been vaping it for over a week and i'm not getting any eliquid in my mouth with the chalice.
I've also just had some ss mesh delivered, do you think i might have more luck using this instead?
