My two :2c:

I fell out of love with the stock silica by day three.

Debated between hemp and cotton, hemp and cotton. Decided to give hemp a try. In all honesty, it wasn't bad. But it did add a pervasively subtle sweet flavor. Now keep in mind my ADV is a mellowed Cinnamon Red Hots, the end result being too much mellow, too much sweet. Depending upon your flavor of choice, you might end up with different results.

I then went out and bought both cheesecloth and the cotton yarn (Something & Cream) that's been recommended by quite a few on the forum, when I stumbled upon this method for re-wicking with cheesecloth: Mitey F's Method.

I have been so very happy with the end results that I haven't even bothered with the yarn yet. Don't know if I will.

Now I know I didn't answer your question as to Hemp #1 vs. Hemp #2, but if you're not sold on hemp and are just looking for non-stock silica options, I thought I might save you some hassle!

Everything I have read says hemp tastes weird, why would you want to use it?

I've been curious about Lion's hemp/cotton blend - (strength of hemp + wicking of cotton) - but I have a lot of cotton yarn sitting around here.

I usually use organic cotton, but it is very thirsty and gives me a bit of asthma/allergy I have found. Back on the silica wicks now but I thought I would give hemp a try. Some have said the taste dissipates after a little while.
