Finally taking the plunge. After about two weeks of reading and reading, and two days of revising and revising again of shopping carts, I placed my orders tonight from ecigexpress and onestopDIYshop. I've waffled between having a ton of flavors and supplies, to having enough to make one flavor, to finally settling somewhere in the middle. This is what I bought:

Your Order Contains:
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
(Flavor: Brown Sugar (Extra), Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
(Flavor: Graham Cracker (Clear) *, Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
(Flavor: Malted Milk (Extra), Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
    (Flavor: RY4 Double, Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
    (Flavor: Vanilla Swirl, Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
(Flavor: Sweet Cream *, Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x The Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors
(Flavor: Caramel Candy *, Size: 6ml)
  • 1 x Capella Flavor Drops 13gm
    (Capella: Sweet Strawberry)
  • 1 x Capella Flavor Drops 13gm
    (Capella: Cinnamon Danish Swirl)
  • 1 x Capella Flavor Drops 13gm
    (Capella: Chocolate Fudge Brownie)
  • 1 x Capella Flavor Drops 13gm
    (Capella: Harvest Berry)
  • 1 x LorAnn Super Strength Dram Bottles
    (Flavor: Cheesecake)

From ecigexpress I bought:

250 mL of PG
250 mL of VG
30 mL of 100 mg nic base (yes, I know, BE CAREFUL..just didn't make much sense to buy the lower mg)
Capella Vanilla Custard and Juicy Peach
FA Catalan cream
Signature Honeysuckle

So far I plan for sure to make fruit varieties of cheesecake, and I want to try honeysuckle with peach. I've got some interesting plans for the cinnamon Danish with the fruits and cream cheese icing, and the malted milk with the strawberry and other stuff. It's going to be fun to play around with. At one point I had it down to just trying an RY4 I saw on here with RY4 double, vanilla swirl and caramel candy, but decided to try more than that. Overall, I spent about $80 so I hope it isn't a bust.

Nope, no syringes ordered. I'm going through an unfortunate accident involving a spike from a Russian olive tree that resulted in IV antibiotics 3 x a day. I've been doing my own IVs and so I have a crap ton of saline and heparin syringes that I am going to boil and use. Can't see any reason why not..no point in wasting them! It also helps I'm a nurse and very familiar with those types of measurements. I'll be getting one of the calculator apps as well, of course.

I just hope I end up with something vapeable. Wish me luck, and any and all advice and crossed fingers are welcome! I'm excited!

Elizabeth, I've been stowing away my glass bottles from purchased juices..have about 15 or so, think that'll get me started at least. If it turns out that I can indeed make vapeable juice, I'll have to order some more :)

I've been hooked on carny4 from G2 lately, so yep, I thought that RY4 looked great too! Glad to hear you like it too b.m. :) Does it take long to steep?

Actually Cullin now that you mention it, that makes me a little worried about the packaging from ecig too. I read a couple of reviews saying they had leaks. Looks like it worked out in the end for those folks but do hope my package comes through okay. I didn't think a whole lot about it when reading the reviews, but now that you've mentioned it here too I wonder if I made the best choice there. Eek..especially considering the nic..not good to have that leak! May have to find a better supplier there..all part of the learning process I guess.

Hopefully they will take better precautions with concentrated nicotine fluid. Not very much leaked from mine, but 5 bottles had leaked a little which is pretty normal for that sub par packaging. I will be contacting them today to let them know about the experience. Hopefully they pay attention to the small people...

Ok,i was off a bit.I thought that was the same i have been making, but it's a bit different. The one i have been making is the rwhy4 recipe posted on here, sounds like the same as you posted, except this one uses bavarian cream and not vanilla swirl. Now i need to try it with the vs instead of bv though, that sounds like it could be a good change. As far as steeping it though, not sure if the different cream would make a difference,i doubt it would change the steep, but i just heat some water in a cup in the microwave for about a minute and 10 seconds, then pop the bottle into the hot water, let it heat it,shake it real good, and put back into the water until it's room temp, then i repeat that again. After that i just let it sit overnight, and it's good to go.It does get better as time goes on,but the longest i have had any left in a single bottle is a bit over a week.I make it in 30ml at a time, and that only lasts me just about a week.

My stuff came in today! SQUEE!

The guys from one stop sent me a really nice note offering advice if needed and good luck. Definitely "awww" worthy and a good way to start off the afternoon. Getting ready to make my first stuff..going to start with single flavors, but can't help but try a couple of things I've seen on here (the RY4 specifically).

I took a pic of my stuff drying on the counter, all freshly boiled..syringes, bottles, equipment, and sent it in a text to my son (he's 21). I told him "Just call me Walter" :D

He responded.."You know mom, most people's mothers would be making brownies or something" :D

ALSO: Ecig express stuff came in just fine as well.

Gary that will TOTALLY be me. I can see the obsession beginning already. That's all good though, I need a new hobby. I am already eyeballing my china hutch, which already has the first shelf taken over by ready made juices and vape stuff, and wondering where I can put all that useless nic-nacky crap so I can have a DIY cupboard!

Of course, I haven't even tried my first juice yet, so maybe I'd better hold off lol

Okay, what I've done so far:

Berry Danish:

Cap Harvest berry 8%
Cap Cinnamon Swirl Danish 8%
LA Cheesecake 5%
TFA Brown sugar 5%

I think this one is pretty much a train wreck but I dripped some after giving it a hot water bath and it was super perfumey and so I added about 0.5 mL each of PG and VG. I know I need to let these sit a few days at least before deciding. It also doesn't help that my tastebuds are mildly jacked up tonight. Just my luck.

RY4

TFA RY4 double 10%
TFA Vanilla Swirl 5%
TFA Caramel Candy 5%

This is nice so far! It's very light for my tastes but as I said above, I am taking this with a grain of salt knowing that I am trying this stuff way too soon. No patience! So far though it smells REALLY similar to my fave G2 caRnY4. I think this is going to be a success!

I did several single flavors and went against advice to start low and work high which I now regret of course. I'm using almost all Capella..at least for the single flavors. I also did a strawberry cream with Cap sweet strawberry 8%, Vanilla Custard 8% and LA cheesecake 4%. Also meh.

BUT. I bought a Honeysuckle from ecig from the Signature line. Made it at 12% and while it's very light it's also very pleasant. Kind of mixing it in my dripper with peach as well and THIS is going to be a win. I like it already. Come on tastebuds! Cooperate so I can play!

Any and all advice, tips, pointers, pointing and laughing..welcome! Sorry for being such a chatty cathy..I'm just excited about this new hobby I've found.

I'm off to look for a good ultrasonic thingy! This steeping stuff is for the birds!

Dena I would suggest that on the Capella flavors that you stay at a total flavoring of about 15% for a while. Past that point they will taste floral and gunky. The TFA I would stay at 12% to 15% for total flavoring. In mixing multiple flavors when you get to high on total % they will all just mute out. I find that for me any of the creams past 1 or 2% mute the main flavors.

I would edit and add also that you really should try that RY4D at about 10-12% by itself. It's a very nice flavor on it's on.

Thanks Gary..I see I have a ton to learn and I'd better buy some more PG/VG/Nic.

I actually tossed the RY4 mix into a tank and I really like it already. Wow. This could work. I will give the RY4D a spin on it's own for sure, but I do tend to like really sweet juices. I'm actually already putting in a tentative vote that I might like this DIY mix I made ...BETTER than my G2 one. Holy OMG.

I am for sure going to take your advice to turn the percentages down a notch. I had read that Capella does well at 10-20%, thought well I like loud flavor, and went straight for the 20. I don't think that's going to work out so well for me..and yes I have also read the part about muting flavors by making them too strong.

I am really excited about this! Browsing the Capella site tonight too..I'm going to get that 7 bottle summer special. This is going to cost some $$ to get set up and have a good library of flavors, I can tell, but I think I'll get to a good point eventually and it's going to save a TON of those $$ in the long run.

Before you purchase that 7 bottle of new flavors, be sure and read Facemeats review of them in post #10. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/581151-new-capella-flavors.html

Also if you will check out Bullcityvapor. They carry the small flavor bottles of Capella for $1.50 ea but they also carry other brands you can try also. I really like some of the Flavour Art flavors and you only use 3-5% of them. A good cheap way to try different flavors without spending a ton.
