I travel a good bet for my job and always look for B&M shops wherever I am. Yesterday in south Georgia, I found a new one. So I stopped. They had some pretty decent stuff, they were really pushing the new VTR that they just got in. I was looking at some Mechs when the dude asked me what I used. I took out my ProVari with a kayfun Lite on top. Started to take a vape and the dude says "no no no, we can't do that in here! " We both kind of stared at each other for what seems like an awkward amount of time. I kept waiting for him to say he was kidding. He never did. about a million things ran through my mind...all of them were rude.

It's very possible that LOCAL ordinances have banned vaping indoors. Which totally sucks. CASAA has had successes but there have been setbacks. We are trying to fight everywhere, it seems, at once. WE need more help from vapers everywhere to let us know when things are happening. Also more help with people in writing those local municipalities.

It was the business owners rule....not an ordinance. I never argue with the owner of a business about vaping. His place, his rules. But a vape shop? I thought it was kinda funny. I'll argue ordinances all day though....thats why I asked him why no vaping. I was ready to storm city hall! Instead, the dude just said "the owner is a jerk." They go to the coffee shop next door to vape. The coffee shop guy is raking it in!

Ah, well you should've said so in your opening statement!
Yeah, in that case that is SUPER idiotic. At least the place next door is smart!!! :D

Well that is odd. Maybe the owner is really sensitive to smell or something like that or might have a PG sensitivity who know. Just trying to see the logic of someone who vapes and owns a vape shop not allowing vaping. Unless the OP's "they" did not include the owner. In that case it's probably somebody who saw the commercial side of vaping and could care less about vaping itself.

Thinking about this a bit more: I live in an area that has veeeeery few B&Ms. One is mainly a head shop actually. I've never been in there but there's a prospector's shop right next door and that's Hubby's hobby. He dropped in there just to check it out thinking of my vaping. There's a sign in there "No Vaping" and there's no ordinance against it. The reason is because the cops keep an eye on the store and he doesn't want anymore heat than he already gets. Just sayin... it is possible the shop owner deals with a similar situation with local authorities.

Edit: Awe geez.... my apologies to the Mods if I used an unmentionable here.

I was thinking the same thing, about the absurdity of laws and regulations that allow the sale for profit of a commodity, and levy taxes on it, but prohibit its consumption ...

Oh well, I like shopping online anyway, and the anticipation of getting some new gear or juice in the mail. Got a package "Out For Delivery" right now ...

I'm reminded of a guy I talked to a few years ago, a strip mall neighbor of a friend with a small medical supply store. The neighbor owned and operated a "grow shop", selling hydroponic gardening equipment. The local cops would regularly lurk outside in the parking lot, running the license plate numbers of his customers, and sometimes following them home ...

Were some of the customers growing questionable "crops" ? Probably ...

Would I want to shop there ? Probably not ...

I'll admit, my experience with vape shops is limited to the ones around here, but I fail to see how a vape shop can logistically not permit vaping indoors.

How can you sample flavors without vaping?

Every one of the ones around here are a shop and a lounge, each one has an area with nice comfy couches, tables and chairs, etc., to sit on and vape in comfort, besides having a wall of flavors with test atomizers. It's a great way for local vapers to meet-and-greet, and otherwise socialize.

But hey, to each his own. If someone else opens up another vape shop nearby with the sense to permit vaping, this guy can sit behind the counter in his empty store and wonder why business is so slow. It's his choice.

I do think someone got wind of the rapid growth of the industry. He probably just decided to start up a store and capitalize on a rapidly growing market. I was surprised at the high end gear, yet no vaping. My hat is off to him. I wish I would have started a store before the boom.I actually invented the clapper, but I was too lazy to produce it, market it and sell it!

I think the very least they could have been was sympathetic to the cause, so to speak. The guy could have shrugged apologetically and said something like "Okay, I know this may sound crazy but we're not allowed to vape inside the building due to regulation XYZ...I'm really sorry, man..." Or what-have-you.

With a curt response like the one it sounds like the OP was given, I'd have just walked out. There are SO many other vendors...if not in one's city, then online.
