Hello Pamster and Wildrose and welcome to the forum! I've read that people prefer the Riva because the button is silicone and not plastic like on the EGO. I guess the plastic buttons are kind of wiggly. I will never know because when I asked about whether to get a Riva or an EGO I was pointed toward a Hello 016 which is what I bought (currently waiting on that mail person!). A little longer that EGO or Riva because it has a 1300 mah batty and with an adapter can use the cartos from my current KR808D-1. Also uses 510 attys, carts and cartos. HTH.

Hi Wild Rose! Glad you joined up and found the board here. We first thought the joy 510 kit would do it, but after finding this board and Vapers Forums we discovered the eGo/Riva and decided with it's HUGE amount of vapor production and longer battery life that it's the way to go for us. Check into it, watch some you tube reviews and see what you think, if you need some links to videos just post and let me know I'll gladly share the ones I found. Welcome to the board! :D

Thank you very much. Yes, some links would be great. Also, a reputable place to buy them would help...sorta...LOL!

This is Scott Bonner's review of the 901 Riva (Electronic ash has the 510 model, but I am sure it's a lot like it, check out the vapor production on this model!) here on Youtube:

YouTube - REVIEW OF THE 901 RIVA ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE

Here is another Riva review:

YouTube - Riva

Another:

YouTube - The Riva from East Mall Review

And one more for good measure:

YouTube - EM Riva from manalos.com

Here are a couple of EGo reviews just to show it's a lot like the Riva:

Starting off with Scott again:

YouTube - REVIEW OF THE JANTY EGO ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE

Here is another eGo review:

YouTube - E-Cigarette Review: The eGo Maniac from GoodProphets.com

GrimmGreen follow Ego review:

YouTube - THE JANTY EGO FOLLOWUP

Those should all have links to other eGo and Riva reviews on the 'related links' area so see what you think! :D

I was going to order from China until someone pointed me towards Electronic Ash who has free shipping on orders over $20 so that sold it for me, from China shipping can be as much as $17.

But in case you're interested check this Chinese Vendor out:

www.EastMall.net Eastmall International Co.,Ltd

Here is an eGo kit that caught my eye, they also BOTH have supplier forums here on ECF:

Joye eGo MEGA Kit(900mA battery in 7 colors) [Joye eGo] - $55.00 : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail

http://electronic-ash.com/estore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=119

That should get you started Wild Rose, if you need a link to their ECF forums here on the board let me know, I had trouble finding them at first so just say the word and I can produce links to them all. :)

Pamster, and anyone, I have a couple more questions.

If I get the Riva from Electronic Ash, what else do I need?

I mean, I read about cones, and tips, dripping and dropping, and the more I read the more confused I get. I go looking for answers and end up getting sidetracked when I see a post about some other thing that has crossed my mind. At this rate, it'll take me forever to decide what to do.

What is the difference between an atomizer and a cartomizer...and why is one better?

OK, do I get some e-liquid? I see this comes with prefilled cartridges, but I think I want to use the e-liquid. Does this have the manual battery? It just says rechargeable battery.

I guess I'll have to just get the kit and figure it out from there, huh?

Sorry if I'm being a pest....

Thanks, Pamster. I like the action of the 901 model, but it sure was hard to understand Scott Bonner! I wonder if the 510 will be good enough. I'm thinking it would be.
The reason the 901 was putting out so much more vapor was because he was using the low resistance (LR) 901 atomizer. An LR 510 atomizer would put out just as much vapor, if not more.

Generally speaking, when you buy a starter kit it should come with everything you NEED.
And once you get it, then you can start to figure out what else you WANT.

OK, do I get some e-liquid?
Definitely, you should get some of your own juice.
The prefilled cartridges are not generally preferred by most people.
And refilling with your own juice is much cheaper and allows for more flexibility.

I'd suggest getting some samples in a few different flavors and strengths.

Check out some of the choices for samplers in post #3 of this thread...

Does this have the manual battery?
I'm pretty sure the Rivas usually come with manual batteries.

If you want to use E-liquid then you'll need a drip tip. It's good to have two so you can pop it off and put the other one on the Riva if you intend to let someone else vape on it to try it. Just more hygenic IMO. Electronic Ash has e-liquids for like $4 for 10 ml. You can choose the nic content too. ANd you're NOT being a pest, don't think that okay Wild Rose? I am new too but LOVE this already. I just know it's gonna save my family members. So get some juice(s) you think you might like, try to have something like no bigger then 10 ml, 5 is better to TRY out a juice, but this vendor has it with 10 mls.

As for attomizers and cartomizers (cartos) I think it really depends on personal preference, cartos are disposable but CAN be refilled, you just need a syringe to get it in the hole and if you need a link to a video on that just let me know, if you're going to go with carts then its easier to refill them. no syringe required. I would try both and see which you like. Youtube is a great resource. :) I am more then happy to help point you in the right direction.

Thanks, guys! I think I'm going to order the kit, and start from there. I see that the only way I'll find out what I really like, is to just jump in and try it.

DC2, the Riva that I'm thinking of getting is an EM Riva. What does the EM stand for, does anyone know? And where can I maybe find an LR Riva?

Pamster, you answered my next question. Yes, I'll get a drip tip, or two. You have been very helpful! Thank you all!

Good question.

EM usually stands for Eastmall, which is a very good electronic cigarette supplier based in China.
But I wouldn't think they actually made a Riva.

I didn't think they made anything, just sold things made by others.
But I could be wrong.

It would be very strange for other people to sell something named EM unless either Eastmall actually DID make it, or unless the EM stands for something other than Eastmall.

And where can I maybe find an LR Riva?
The LR refers to a low resistance (LR) atomizer.
You don't buy a LR Riva, you buy an LR atomizer to put on your Riva.
:)
