Hey Hoog, question for 5V mod

Hey Hoog,

Got your LDO 5 volt, 3.0 amp regulator, D2Pak3 for a 5V mod using 2 14500s and I am getting mixed signals on the forum about whether or not to use a resistor/capicator in front of the regulator.

What are your thoughts and if I do need one, which one is it on your site?

Not that I am Hoog, obviously, but the reason for the cap is to take some stress off of the regulator. You don't need it per say but your regulator will last longer. The stress of getting it with 7.4 volts every time you hit the switch can be hard on it.

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know which cap is best suited? And the only wiring diagram I can find is exclusive of the cap.

10 uf 10v Multi layer capacitor
That one will work for you. It doesn't take much, just something to buffer the voltage a bit. What it is doing is allowing the regulator to pull current from the cap instead of straight from the batteries.

manufacturer recommends it and like jc said it really increase stabilty and gets rid of spikes. The spec sheet is on the product page also.

I built 2 small mods with the regulator and from the wiring diagram. I included the cap in mine and they've both been working quite nicely for 6ish weeks now. Doesn't cost much and if its supposed to make the regulator last figured there wasn't any reason to not include one.
