Hey everyone,

I’m 19 years old, male, and am about to enter college. I vaped over this summer casually and infrequently with friends and haven’t touched a cigarette in my life. I really liked vaping and am thinking about purchasing a vape mod (Smoke Alien) and plan on smoking 3mg. I do however have some reservations that I’m hoping get put to rest.

1. If I vape for the next 4 years from Smoke Alien at 3mg how badly will I age? Is it like cigarettes where I’ll get puckerface and all sorts of skin problems and wrinkles?

2. What are the health repercussions? I’ve been a competitive runner all throughout high school and even thought I won’t be running in college, I still want to maintain fitness. My question is will vaping cause lung/respiration issues or other side effects?

Thanks y’all, I really want to make the move to get this going but I just want to make sure I’m not gonna regret this 5 years from now.

You wouldn't age like that even from cigarettes. That is propaganda. I was a very dedicated tobacco user and getting carded to buy tobacco into my 40s.
How you age is mostly genetics. The propaganda picks people who aged early and then blame it on smoking.

You don't smoke ecigs, you vape them. No smoke is involved.

The health repercussions are mostly unknown outside of ecigs are orders of craploads lower than smoking. If you are going to smoke, vape instead, you'll be better for it. If you aren't going to smoke don't bother vaping, you'll be better for it. See how that works?

Go for the least risk. Don't inhale other crap you don't need. If you're already inhaling crap you don't need inhale lower risk crap you don't need.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn’t mean to use the word “smoke,” wrong wording I guess.

So basically the takeaway is, don’t vape if you don’t already smoke cigs?

Unless you're going to smoke I would say don't vape. I wish vaping would've been an option for me when I was 14 instead of smoking so I never would've smoked.

You can wait for other people's opinions but I suspect that will be the majority opinion.

Just like @Myk said if you're not smoking cigarettes, vaping represents a risk over not vaping. Nothing beats clean air in your lungs. But as in all things, it's your body and your decision on what you choose to do.

Yes. Exactly that.
A Smok alien is not going to be cheap to run either. Coils and juice bill will hurt.
Are you flush with $?
Think about that as well.
Spend your money on good food and nice clothes instead.

Yeah, if you never smoked, getting addicted to nicotine isnt the best idea. But you're old enough to do what you want. Vaping helped me give up a 42 year cigarette habit, even though, ive replaced that habit with vaping because ive decided that, in my case, nicotine isnt hurting me and i kinda like it. Im trying to remember why i wanted to start smoking in the first place. Maybe because my parents did and at the same time were telling me not to. Ill just say if you want to vape, do it safely. Be smart about it. There ARE worse things to get addicted to besides nicotine. The bottom line though is that nicotine IS an addictive substance.

I don't think so. At least not in my experience. Cigarettes are addictive but without cigarettes for 6 years I have no problem going to 0mg. NRTs aren't shown to be addictive.

IMO I'd stay away from Smok mods and tanks....they have a terrible reputation these days for terrible QC. Screens going bad, mods that just stop working after a month, peeling paint issues on some, etc. And the tanks and coils aren't the greatest either. Flashy but poorly made. You want to check out something of better quality like Asmodus, or the Smoant Cylon, or the Voopoo Drag. Just steer clear of Smok (and Sigelei for that matter now). Trouble is, alot of vape shops seem to carry mostly Smok mods. There used to be an old post WW2 phrase..."made in Japan" which used to stand for cheap crap which breaks fast...lol.

Why start an addiction you don't currently have? Don't start if you've never smoked. Vaping isn't a cool thing. It's a way to break the addiction of smoking cigarettes. You don't need it and shouldn't start, IMO.

There's a vape advocate on Twitter that has a standing reward for any that can show addiction in humans without smoke. Many ANTZ argue but none have provided any studies that meet the human criteria to get the reward.
Part of the problem is "addiction" keeps moving its goal posts around according to who wants a grant.

If nicotine without tobacco smoke really is that addictive then answer the following question:
Why is there no nicotine warning on gums, sprays or lozenges? It's the same nicotine in there as in our liquids so I don't see why my f:censored:g mod would need a "nicotine is a highly addictive substance" warning but those don't.

It's also the only drug (in the street not medical sense) that
-the very substance is used to get you off it
-the extract/concentrate isn't sold on the streets
Why is that?

Actually, studies have confirmed that smoking does make you look older, but not as much as you think. When you smoke cigarettes, you also inhale carbon monoxide, which decreases the blood's ability to carry oxygen.. this does do some damage to the skin, but the anti-smoking ads hype it up to the max and over exaggerate it.

the good thing about vaping though, is there is no carbon monoxide inhalation. Nicotine is not as bad of a culprit as people think. When you do your research about Nicotine, make sure it is a study of nicotine, not smoking. For many years, the words nicotine and smoking were synonymous. So, when they did studies about nicotine, they pretty much were talking about smoking, not the nicotine itself. This is extremely important because a cigarette is a cocktail of roughly 2000 chemicals that react to one another... one example I commonly cite, is Ammonia. Ammonia is used as a "binder" on the cigaretes paper. The cigarettes paper is made from the stalks of a tobacco plant. To bind the fibers of the stalks, ammonia is also used. This was a big scandal during the tobacco industry's trials, because they knew that ammonia would increase the addictive qualities of cigarettes. Since they couldn't add it directly to the tobacco in fear the FDA would say something, they used it as a binder to make the paper for the cigarette while using more of the tobacco plant (the stalks) and creating more profit.

Anyways.. I seem to have gotten off on a tangent..... No, you won't age using Ecigarettes. But, my advice is.. if you don't smoke, I don't suggest you use nicotine at all. You can still enjoy the flavors, minus one mildly addictive chemical. However, if it comes between smoking or Ecigarettes... I would rather you stay with Ecigarettes... it is MUCH safer.... NEVER try a Cigarette.

From that page I gather:
Smoking makes you really bad at doing makeup, not smoking makes you fatter.
Not smoking makes your eyes droopy, smoking causes wrinkles around your mouth, keeps your ears from growing big and makes you happier.
Smoking makes your eyes droopy and not care about makeup, not smoking makes you happier.

Here's another thinker...but as a preface to reading this.. note that there is no citations when it concerns the addictive properties of Nicotine. This is how science theory becomes science fact without actual proof.

No, I gather it as partial truths.. Carbon Monoxide DOES reduce oxygen to the blood... poorer blood does hinder many things.. including cell regeneration.. not just in the skin, but other areas. On that page of identical twins, only one was wearing makeup.. look at the others... the differences were minor, but still noticeable. I have also seen a change in the way others look when they stop smoking... Me, my mother in law, my mother, my sister, my brother, and about 10 of my other friends.... I have seen the effects get better after they quit first hand as well, and multiple times.

Something is always riskier than nothing. A truism. But without real informational value.

Will you have to expect measurable consequences from vaping? Not that I know of, and still, there is "a" risk of unknown quality and probability involved. Noone knows. However, suffering from all the different tobacco-smoke-related diseases, including lung cancer, isn't one of them - which is the very reason why smokers switch to vaping.

If you find vaping so attractive, get a high quality device you fancy, enjoy making clouds and tasting a myriad of liquids, but really, do NOT buy/add nicotine to your liquids. You're not going to benefit from it, and while its addictive potential is disputable, it has some properties which are slightly detrimental to your health.

Me too. That’s why I don’t jump on the “if you don’t smoke, don’t vape” bandwagon. Because it would have certainly changed my life to start vaping before I ever lit that first Pall Mall.

I’ll give the OP the same advice I gave my own beloved adult daughter who never smoked. It’s better that you don’t, but I get that there are a lot of smokers and vapers around. Especially on a night on the town. You can get zero nic juice, and why not, since you’ve never used nic? It’s certainly not the riskiest thing you could get up to.
