Hey everybody! I've been a member of the Women's Room for quite some time but haven't had a chance to post yet. So here I am! :D

I know most people are big on 'spring cleaning' but TBH, fall is when I do mine. I usually have company just about every weekend in the summer. Once school starts, that usually ends and that's when I start cleaning up and 'winterizing'.

Anyhoo...I have a couple of tips I came across this year while cleaning up...thought I'd share!

1) A lot of people have 'to do lists'. I used to keep a notepad but hated the scratch outs then transferring the undone stuff to a new page....so along came stickies...which were good...but you know how they can accumulate....or get lost or thrown out. So I combined the two!

I bought a 3 subject spiral notebook (but you could use 1 or 5 subject). I titled the very first page 'ASAP' meaning those have to be done this week. Then I put stickies on the page with the things I need to do. As they get done, I throw the sticky away. At least now they're all in one place...no scratch outs....no transferring info from pages.

Then I named some other pages 'Online' for stuff I want to research or look into buying; 'The Weekend' for stuff that can wait til then; 'Long Term Goals' for things like my retirement; etc. And I carry it around everywhere I go. You can also have a page with blank stickies for when you need them...or stick them on the inside cover. Let me tell you....it's been a godsend! :)

2) I don't know about you but I get more mail than God! Then it ends up laying around everywhere...you know. Well, I got one of those 22 pocket over the door shoe hangers at WalMart....I actually tacked it up on a hall wall...and now all my mail goes in there. I have each pocket labeled such as credit cards, insurance, things to look at later, misc....and even pockets for mail that I still get for my sons who no longer live with me. And the pockets expand big enough to hold misc greeting cards (like b'day, mother's day, etc).

No more piles...yay!!! That's been a lifesaver! ;)

3) And one last one....all summer I use a couple of coolers on wheels for when I have guests. They come in handy as a seat too. Well, I just cleaned them all out and thought "Why not put eliquids in here?' I have my extra juice in boxes now in a spare room but I moved them all over to the cooler. I can even put a dry ice in there if I needed. Yeh, next summer I may need the cooler back but who knows....maybe I'll just pick up a new one! I saw small styrofoam ones at the dollar store earlier this year too. Might try a couple of those...and they look stackable too.

So ladies....just some tips I came across that might be useful to others. Hope to talk more soon! :)

Excellent tips Lu! Kind of handy to have 2 names huh? I just combine mine, Mary Kay! Works for me!
Hey I finished spring cleaning a couple of months ago..for 1999, guess it's time to start 2000.
The only way it gets done is if I just clear the room..I mean empty it of everything but furniture! Then I start on the walls while the curtains are being washed or at the dry cleaners, The screens are gone to the porch to be sprayed down and Mike has to go out and clean the windows while the screens are off! See why am so dratted slow? Then the carpets are shampooed and the mattresse turned if it's a bedroom.
Before things go back, I have to decide to keep, throw or Goodwill them!
The drawers are treated likewise. What a mess we collect in a year (or 10)
This is one reason I loved active duty..all this gets done every 3 to 4 years..like it or not!
I like the folder idea! That would have come in handy the last few months!
Most of the time I just use the old fashioned method. I tell Mike, he makes a list, we forget the list and I end up remembering it anyway..just so I can tell him..I did too tell you!:p
I have a question please, what were the coolers for with the guests..or is that a secret..along with bodies buried in the back yard?

I'm realizing they could come in handy for other things as well. Hell, I could even put some of my small ejuice mixing bottles and mixers in there too. It's nice because it's clear so you can see at a glance what you have there.

Forgot to mention too that I also put stray pens and pencils in there and some other small misc objects that seem to always end up on my kitchen table! :p

Lu, When's happy hour? I am ready for a day or 6 off! Don't clean on my account, I'll just take off the readers and dust just disapears!:p

You should have been around this summer MK. My house seems to be the meeting place since I have a nice big yard....and no partner to complain about how crazy we get (no partners allowed...just the girls!). It was a great summer. You do karaoke? :D

I have a tip..you know those laundry sorting bins that have 3 compartments? If it is on rollers take room to room with you when you clean. It can help sort things as you go. Like dirty clothes, dishes left in a room or books, CD's that need to be returned to the family room.
You can also use it to carry cleaning stuff or to sort the keep, throw or goodwill stuff!
It also makes a nice laundry sorter...:p
Lu, I only know late 50's, 60's and early 70's songs!

I generally do my heavy cleaning around Rumors coat blow cycle. Three months or so after her season she blows coat and well, she has ALOT of fur to shed lol. So twice a year she gets a new coat and I get a squeaky clean house :) Her winter blow is nothing compared to the summer one tho, thank goodness!

Hey MK, I love the rolling 3 compartments idea! I could put garbage bags in each compartment then wheel it around my patio when cleaning up after a party....one for trash, one for bottles and one for cans :D

Those are the only songs we sing...think Patsy Cline, Beatles, Elvis....and all of that 50's rock n roll. (OK...we also do the macarena and electric slide....but just so we can all get in a line and dance too )

I can't dance either! Think cow on rollerskates! They did the slide at my last charity dance..I got pulled out there to join in, somehow I also got pushed back! :p
Oh well I am good at remembering songs and singers, I am good at mixing some drinks and I can entertain with some silly stories.

here's a quicky:
Put some extra trash can liners in the bottom of your small trash cans..like the bath or bedroom. When your trash starts to get full, grab the full one and pull up a fresh one and be on your way! No hunting for the right size bag or returning to the room to refill the can.

Last year we got these Airfreshners for the bathrooms, they are like the ones you see in public restrooms ect.. made by Lysol and you can get em in the air freshner isle.
They rock!! you can set them to go off at different intervals, the one in the cats bathroom goes off every 18 mins and I LOVE that! Also wonderful with two males in the house ;)

Here's a tip for cleaning the kids room's when toys are scattered all over the floor. I take a broom and sweep everything on the floor into a big pile, then I can sit down and sort through it easier.

I used to pack it into 30 gal trash bags and put them in the garage where my son couldn't get to them for a week. Make him visit them from the kitchen window.....

Ok here is my tip some of you might have heard it already.

If you have vertical blinds like the kind that go across your patio door here is a simple way to save yourself dusting the tops of them all the time. Use a paper roll like that found in wrapping paper. Take it and cut it in half length wise and place on top of the blinds. When it is time to dust the blinds you simply take down the roll dust out with a paper towel and replace no more scrubbing or trying to get into the crease at the top.
