There are a couple things one can do to lower throat hit. One is use a low PG juice, the other is look for one that uses nic salts instead of regular liquid nicotine.

Welcome to ECF. I don't like a throat hit and I use nicotine salts. You could certainly do that in your device if you are having trouble getting to a nicotine level you like. You just want to keep your nic salt level "consistent" for your device, as there are some reports of slightly more rapid bioavailability, so too high nic salts (in any device) can be a problem. But if you can tolerate 6 m.g. of regular freebase nicotine, I'd imagine you'd have no trouble with a 6 mg/ml nicotine salt solution. I also use less PG, although it's mainly because I am PG sensitive. But, lowering PG can help reduce harshness as well.

Best of luck as you experiment!
