I have been reading about genesis atomizers, the use of a stainless wick is intriguing but is the chromium in stainless safe? I know that a particular oxide of chromium, hexavalent chromium, is a nasty carcinogen,
"Chronic inhalation of hexavalent chromium compounds increases risk of lung cancer (lungs are especially vulnerable,)"
Hexavalent chromium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
chromium is 10 to 30 % of stainless steel, what the actual inhaled load from a stainless wick would be and what kind load is harmful I don't know, as a filler material in a silica wicked carto I don't think you would be inhaling much if any. silica wicks have issues also.
"Chromium hexavalent (Cr(VI)) compounds, often called hexavalent chromium, exist in several forms. Industrial uses of hexavalent chromium compounds include chromate pigments in dyes, paints, inks, and plastics; chromates added as anticorrosive agents to paints, primers, and other surface coatings; and chromic acid electroplated onto metal parts to provide a decorative or protective coating.
Hexavalent chromium can also be formed when performing "hot work" such as welding on stainless steel or melting chromium metal. In these situations the chromium is not originally hexavalent, but the high temperatures involved in the process result in oxidation that converts the chromium to a hexavalent state."

so how hot does stainless new to be to form Chromium hexavalent?
