Hello everyone,

Just joined the forums here and have been reading some since Thursday. I found you by chance researching the E-Cigarettes and found the posts here very informative.

I bought the starter kit on Friday 2/10/2011 and started using the E Cigarettes in the hopes of quitting the analog smokes. I've been smoking for over 30 years and have quit a few times when previously pregnant but always started back up.

I got sick of the coughing and being tired, and using my inhalers ( I know pretty dumb to keep smoking ), and started wheezing at night when trying to sleep so I figure enough was enough.

I was a pack a day smoker and since starting the E Cigarettes Friday afternoon, I've smoked 4 actual cigarettes and the rest of the time and been enjoying the newness of the E Cigarettes.

Although I've only had 4 in 5 days sometimes I think I'm doing good and then I think why did I smoke those 4. It's like I needed to have one a day, and I don't know why. Each time they have tasted worse so I guess that's good.

By reading other posts here, I think I'm on my way to totally quitting the analogs, I have I think 3 packs left in my "stash" of packs left from my last carton purchase, and I'm not planning on buying anymore, I hope.

The posts here have been an inspiration and I will keep reading to help me get through this.

Thanks all for having this forum available,
Linda

I am kind of in the same boat as you. Smoked for 33 years and have been off of them now for 12 days. A short time but it is a start. At first I sucked on the ecig all the time but it is much better now. Just try and keep the end result in focus. Find a juice that you like and the equipment that fits your needs and lifestyle and it just keeps getting easier as well as more interesting. Keep it up, sounds like you are off to a good start.

Wow thanks so much for the quick replies and warm welcome!
I bought the Mistic Starter kit, with 2 batteries, 3 filters and Charger and USB charger. The girl also sold me the extra battery and one filter (I don't know why, and didn't know what I got until I got home, and a 5 pack of disposable filters or cartridges, still learning the lingo :)

I got the menthol, and I like the taste, it's the 1.8 Mg Menthol. I was kind of surprised, I read the kit with 3 cartridges equals 3 packs, but...since Friday, I just popped the second cartridge on because it started to taste not so good lol.

I thought I'd go through them quicker, but that's alright with me. I noticed that instead of like the analogs lighting it and smoking until it's gone, with the Mistics I puff here and there when the mood strikes me, maybe that's why they are lasting so much longer.

Even though with regulars smokes I only smoked in the kitchen near the window and no where else in the house, with these I carry one with me all the time and just hit it when I feel like it. I also like the fact that I throw one in my coat pocket and just hit it whenever, when out and about.

I thought I would use more, but seems I'm using less. This morning I actually poured my coffee and started the kids breakfasts for school before taking a hit of nicotine, usually I would have been through one regular one by then, so I'm really happy with that.

Gotta hit the hay it's 1:30 am and the kids start my day early on school days, but I'm really looking forward to looking at this thread tomorrow. Believe it or not the quick responses here already have inspired me, thank you so much again :)

Have a great night or day, where ever you are,
Linda

First off, don't believe that a cartridge lasts "X" amount of cigs. It doesn't. We don't know exactly how much nicotine we absorb so please don't get upset with yourself. Vape your head off if you need too. My ecigs/PV's are stuck in my face all the time. Biggest thing to do is to listen to your body. If you start to feel sick, stop vaping for awhile. Also stay hydrated. Water is a key issue to help flush your body of all the toxins...plus vaping will dehydrate you. So drink, drink, drink. As for totally leaving cigs alone, it will come so don't pressure yourself.

Welcome to ECF.

I've been vaping for almost 2 years now, and last week I was on a road trip in south Louisiana. I stopped at a Love's, and remembered reading about these here, so I went ahead & got one, just to see if it'll work as an "emergency emergency backup to my backup" kinda thing. Nice to know these things in a pinch, y'know?

Anyway, here's my impression:
BAD NEWS: The cartridges (they're actually called cartomizers, but Mistic calls them cartridges) are a) horrifically expensive, and b) taste really awful. This is, of course, in comparison to other stuff that's out there, that I'm sure you'll eventually try out ;)
GOOD NEWS: The batteries seem sturdy, it performs very well, and, while the cartos are pricey, the batts are comparatively cheap.

BAD NEWS: The batteries seem to be some kind of proprietary threading, or at least one I haven't dealt with before otherwise.
GOOD NEWS: A KR808-D1 threaded cartomizer WILL work on a Mistic battery, I've tried it. There will be a gap, as it doesn't sit flush against your battery, and you have to tweak it a little to get the right airflow, but you can get these cartomizers for WAAAAAY cheaper than what Mistic sells theirs for. Check out some of the suppliers on the ECF list ("Forum Suppliers" tab above).

BAD NEWS: Like a lot of companies, Mistic doesn't tell you the whole truth.
GOOD NEWS: We will here. Those "disposable" cartomizers are actually semi-disposable; they can be refilled. But of course, the manufacturer wouldn't make as much off of you if you knew that, would they?

BETTER NEWS: My first one was about half as good as the Mistic, and I paid about $130 for it. 3 days later, I found ECF... sigh. Anyway, now you know you can order KR808 cartos online for a fraction of what Mistic sells theirs for, get some juice (e-liquid) online & refill them, and when you're ready to "move up", get a KR808 kit since you'll have cartos for it; Madvapes has a simple little KR808 starter (one batt, one prefilled carto, and a charger) for 10 bucks, or you can pay more for a higher-quality kit. I'm a devotee of the 510 model, but I hear that V4L (Vapor For Life, I think) has lots of cool flavors & stuff for the KR808 model. Note: Mistic cartomizers do NOT work on the KR808; they're too deep for the center post to make contact with the battery.

BEST NEWS: Hey, it got you off the real ones, eh? You're off to a great start! Welcome to the forum, do some shopping around, and start planning to do some mailman stalking. You'll save TONS of money and have a better experience buying online from well-reviewed suppliers you read about on ECF.

Congrats and welcome - I also started by thinking if I could just cut down, it'd be a good thing, and now I'm 10 days off analogs and, other than an occasional twinge that's purely psychological, I do NOT miss cigs. There are lots of great tips and a ton of really wonderful people here who will help you with ANY questions you have, so make sure you ask when things get tough or you get frustrated!

Wow, I'm overwhelmed by the support and advice - thank you so much everyone !! :)

Gonna go get me some water right now, as far as moving up to something better, I think I'm gonna stick with this for now, I still don't really know what I'm doing yet, so I will keep reading the boards here.

I'm sure there are better flavors out there, but I'm thinking if this is all I've tried so far I won't be disappointed LOL

I'll be back later, I'm so loving all the support here in such a short amount of time.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, again,
Linda

Hi Linda! I think we are at the same stage in this new e-cig adventure. I got a "free" starter kit deal and thankfully found this forum in time to cancel my "membership" before paying $8 per carto! I was a smoker for more than 30 years and found it pretty easy to put the analogs down once I had the e-cig that looked and felt like a cigarette but tasted way better. Of course when I ran out of cartos I bought a pack, I hate them but felt I needed them. Sure won't let that happen again, have a new shipment coming today.

When I recieved my first e-cig, I smoked the analogs until I ran out, about a day. I didn't know why either, I liked the e-cig so much better. Once they were gone though I was fine with not having them for the first time in more than 30 years, and went two weeks without them until I ran out of cartos.

I did not smoke anywhere in my house, I had a smoke spot on the patio. I love being able to smoke at the computer, and in the house on rainy days. I'm sure you will be totally smoke free shortly once the benefits become reality for you (it takes a while sometimes for my brain to get with the program!)

Welcome to ECF!

Hi again,

Here is an update and I'm looking for a dinky bit of encouragement. I've been on the e-cigs since Friday, so in 12 hrs it'll be one week. When I started I had one open pack of analogs left. Since Friday I've had 5 analogs total. I seem to have one at bedtime as a reward for not having any during the day. I'm on my 3rd Carto since starting too, so I've even cut down in that regard, I was a pack a day smoker. :)

I'm gonna do this I guess until the pack is gone then try just e-cigs. Just found out I'm having a minor surgery next week, and two days later my middle kiddo is having oral surgery (he's 12) and I'm worried for him with the pain he will have for a few days after. His surgery will be pretty extensive and he's more dental phobic than me lol, so I'm way more worried about his surgery than mine. I'm hoping mine won't keep me from driving too long, that's my main worry with mine.

So I guess when I get through next week it'll be easier to give up the analogs all together. So PLEASE tell me it's okay doing it this way until the pack is gone. I'm really trying and I hope it'll be easier after next week.

I hope it's okay if I'm doing it this way for a bit longer.

Thanks again for all the support. You've all been fantastic !!
Linda
