I'm pretty new to vaping, I'm 10 days off of analogs after 13-14 years of smoking, I climbed a lighthouse 2 days ago (which I would have never been able to do) thanks to vaping! I jumped into the high end of vaping and have a 150 sigelei and a DNA40.

Don't bust out the pitchforks after these next few questions.

- I use only Velvet Cloud Vapors e-juice and have been using it in a subtank mini ever since I started vaping. Now here's where I might be castrated...
I feel as tho I am getting more flavor from the Subtank mini them I do my Aeolus with a dual coil build using 28 aw kanthal coming out to .4 ohms. Shouldn't I be tasting more flavor? I'm wicking with Drago Egyptian cotton.

Next question pertaining to DNA40

I've seen a lot of people say they are wrapping their Ni200 spaced around bolts and screws that will create an inner diameter of about 3mm. Can anyone point me to the exact screw/bolt whatever. I spent the last two days at home depot and ace hardware. My knowledge of sizes of bolts and the spacing between the threads on the bolts just has went right over my head.

Last question..

Kuro Concepts coilers...what size is that hex screw that allows you to unscrew the rod so that its easily to mount your coil on your RDA/RTA

Again sorry for the newb questions, I try to do as much research as possible but sometimes I really just need to ask.

Thanks everyone.

Hello and welcome to the forum kskweri. Glad to have you here!:)

Many people are surprised at the performance (flavor/vapor) of many of the new sub-ohm clearomizers. As to if you should/can be getting better flavor from your Aeolus I'll leave that to someone who has experience with that RTA.

No experience with nickel wire so I'm not familiar with the screws sizes members are using. I would thing you could just google "screw threads" and match up the numbers with rod diameters in Steam Engine to figure out what works for you.

I have never seen a Kuro Coil Winder that uses screws instead of rods. I did see a jig someone made using a brass screw, butterfly, knurling nut and a bolt to wrap their nickel wire on. It may have been in this thread: DNA 40, NR, Nickel Builds

Thanks Susan! The Kuro Concepts Coiler does have a straight plain old rod but there is a very very very tiny allen key or hex? it's so small i cant tell but you can actually loosen that hex screw on the side of the Kuro Coiler and it will release the rod you made your cable on making it easier to position when going to mount the coil.

I actually started off vaping with an atlantis and have moved to the Subtank mini and Lemo drop RTA, the flavor was always great I was just under the impression that the flavor from an RDA is so much better it's a night and day compared to new sub-ohm clearomizer. That's why I was worried about stating that I get more flavor out of my subtank than the Doge V2, Darkhorse, Aeolus.

The RDA's are really cool to me and i just started building coils, the whole building coils is the fun part to me.

Thanks for the links!

Hi and welcome! I have quite a bit of experience with winding coils and RTAs, RDAs. However I use only kanthal wire and not nickel . The only thing I know about nickel wire is that it must be wrapped many times and even then it produces a very low ohm vape. So I wouldn't be the best person to help you with that. As far as flavor, yes you ate correct. In my opinion RTAS flavor does surpass that of other tanks. As far as the Sub tank is concerned that is a very good tank so it would depend very much on which RTA it was up against. Another words some it will beat, flavor wise, some it wont. As far as your coil jig is concerned, I use a very small screw driver or what ever works at the time so I can't be much help there either. Sorry. But I want to welcome you to the forum anyway. Sorry I couldn't be of more help

an 8x32 machine screw is what you want, many find a 6x32 works well too.
The first number is the size of the screw, the second is the number of threads per inch.
A #8 screw is .164 of an inch.
a very common screw

Welcome aboard! I've got both the Atlantis and the Kanger Sub-Tank, and while I like them both, they cannot compare to any of my RDAs for flavor and especially vapor. That's just my experience, others may have different opinions and/or experiences.

Regarding Nickel, I had tried and tried without much success on my VaporShark rDNA 40, but today I trashed everything and tried again. This time I forgot the screws and the spaced wraps. I used 28G Nickel, 20 wraps (yes I said 20 wraps) around a 1/16 drill bit as tight as I could get them. Nickel is very "springy" so tight compressed coils are not easy to build. It's on an Authentic Tugboat, single coil. I ended up @ .13 ohms, and I've got the rDNA set at 40W and temp control set at 450 degrees. It is a very pleasing vape, a little cooler than I actually prefer, but consistent every time, even on long, 5-6 second pulls.

Regarding the Kuro, you'll probably have to contact them for the specs on the screw. I've got a set of three, but I don't use them anymore.

Anyway, good luck, keep on vaping, and enjoy the journey! I've attached a pic of the build if you're interested.

Thanks for all of the fantastic information guys! Now I know I'm in the right place. I picked up those screws but didn't have any luck using them, so I manually wrapped it spaced and came out to .13 ohms with temp set to 470F. Very nice vape indeed!

I just tried to do a Zipper Coil Build but gave up pretty fast but what I did manage to do is twist two pieces of 26 guage kanthal.

First I straightened them using a power drill then I manually twisted them, stuck it in the chuck of the drill and twisted it pretty tight. Then I ran it under water to clean it off, I had some kind of suet on my hands so thats why I rinsed it. Anyway is this called anything? It game out to .58 ohms. I figured I'd just stick it in the Doge V2 RDA and vape it. I just wanted to know if its called anything like "twisted coil" or "Willy Wonka's Magic Coil etc".

Thanks again for everything guys and gals!

Just built some nickel coils for a buddy's dripper, running on a vapor shark rdna40. Ended up doing 18 wraps of 28ga nickel on a 3mm screwdriver. came out to .11. He's been running it at 35 watts and 450 degrees and loves it! just make sure if you let the wires on your coil touch to do an ungodly amount of wraps. spacing out your wire in the coil will up the resistance as well. Happy vaping!

Something weird going on here, 8 wraps around 3mm should give you 0.11 ohms
18 wraps should be about 0.25 ohms.

My experience is best summed up by saying, watch the rip trippers YouTube on a standard RDA nickel build. The spacing that's shown is what has worked best for me (after A LOT of trial and error). I haven't tried the screw yet and don't plan to. If the spaces are too big, it hasn't given me a consistent vape and micro coils have fouled really quickly for me, throwing the resistance/TC out of whack. Hope this helps.

Ps. Rip uses a 2.4mm mandrel and I use a 3mm. Has worked great for me.

Yea that's exactly what I followed, I used 9 wraps spaced with Drago cotton

Yea that's exactly what I did with the Lemo Drop RTA and my first try I failed miserably but the 2nd try I just seemed to nail it. I used the 3mm Kuro Coiler and manually wrapped 9 wraps and it came out to .15 ohms. Rip says in that video that the nickle is better than kanthal in the Lemo Drop RTA but I just immediately stuck a Ni200 build in so I don't know how it would have compared but compared to my subtank mini my Velvet Clouds Vapor - Strawberry Guave has much more flavor. Even the girlfriend agreed. I haven't built in an RDA yet but plan on it tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a great RDA for single coil builds using Ni200?

i use plume veil and t has been working great so far. good thing about it is it has normal philips screw heads so i can just wrap the wire around the screw head for a more solid connection

I actually almost bought the Plume Veil at my local B&M, I'll see what I pick up today as it's their 1 year anniversary and there's a party/cloud comp/raffles etc.
