I am thinking more and more that is exactly what I will go with, so any suggestions on batteries and charger are welcome indeed.
If you go with a mod which requires external batteries, I suggest a couple of the below batteries:

LG 18650HG2 3000mah 20 amp CDR
Samsung 18650 30Q, 3000 mah 20 amp CDR
Sony 18659VTC6 3000mAh 20A CDR
AW 18650 3000 mah 20 amp CDR

These have the best combination of capacity (mah) and amps (continuous discharge rate) available, and will be the best choice in general. I suggest purchasing from a battery supplier which sells authentic brand name batteries from trusted sources:
www.liionwholesale.com
www.imrbatteries.com
www.illumn.com
www.rtdvapor.com
www.batterybro.com
www.orbtronic.com
For a battery recharger, consider either the EFEST LUC V2 or EFEST LUC V4. One of the better brands at a reasonable cost. Guide to Choosing a Li-ion Battery Charger

I think these LG HG2's would be a Great Choice for a 20A CDR 18650 Battery.

LG HG2 18650 3000mAh 20A Battery

You would want to buy 2 of them. So that you can use 1 while the other is Charging. You also want to Buy them from a Reputable Battery Seller like IMRBattery.

As for a Charger, I have one of these and Really Like it.

XTAR VC4 4 Channel Digital Battery Charger

It can Charge 18650 Batteries for you Mod. And it can also charge AA Batteries for things like you TV/Dish Remote. It's only downside is it is USB powered. So you need to power it from a USB Wall Wart.

And just to further confuse you , I'll tell you what my current setup is. I like it so much that I bought the same setup for my son for Christmas. I think it is ideal for a beginner or intermediate vaper. Excellent reviews on You Tube.

SERIES-B DNA 75W Box Mod Kit Device Only | JAC Vapour
A small and sexy 75 watt DNA chip mod whose 18650 battery lasts me all day. Not a tube, and not a box, a combination of the two. It is extremely comfortable to hold with smooth rounded edges and is light in weight. The fire button is sensitive, so make sure to click it 5 times to turn it off when you put it in your pocket or purse. Click 5 more times to turn it back on.

I vape mine 30 - 40 watts, but you can vape at whatever wattage range you prefer -- higher or lower. If you end up choosing non-subohm tank like an Aspire Nautilus, choose a lower wattage like 20 watts.

I use an original Crown clearomizer tank with the 0.5 ohm coils. The air control ring adjusts for a tighter mouth-to-lung vaper to a looser direct-to-lung vaper. Top fill is simple and quick. Plenty of vapor, and the flavor is sublime. I replaced the metal mouthpiece with an acrylic one as I don't like metal drip tips. These coils last me at least 4 weeks. I would focus on the best MTL setup personally (though I see nothing wrong with buying a two battery mod to go with it, if you DO decide to start subohming at some point.) With that said, you have to start somewhere, and most people do start out with less cloudy setups. Who knows what in the end you are going to prefer? You can do much, much better than your former setup, be getting more vapor and more satisfactory, consistent, flavorful vapor by getting a nice, middle of the road reliable box mod and putting a good MTL tank on top.

If I were starting again, I'd start with the nautilus 2 tank (it got me quitting, my sub0hm tank was way too tough for me to handle). I'd say that I've progressed a certain amount, I do have tanks that are airier and cloudier than the Nautilus 2, but that was my quitting tank, and I still think it's the best thing for new vapers, unless they want to get an inexpensive Kabuki clone which is a better vape than the N2, but that would require ordering one from Fasttech and something of a wait.

Nice, easy going two battery setups might include: The aspire speeder, a teslacigs product (they have several excellent mods, I have a tesla nano 120, it's heavy but a great mod) or really there are so many on the market, I'd look around in the variable wattage mods section and see what appeals to you.

Yes, you may eventually want a sub0hm tank, but you will have the mod to support it, and if you hate your first MTL tank, well the nautilus 2 can be purchased pretty inexpensively these days, you won't be out hundreds or even tens of dollars.

I agree juice choice will be more tricky, most likely . That and getting through detox. There is going to be one, regardless of WHAT setup you choose.

Best of luck, and I hope you can find something you feel good about purchasing, but almost anything is likely to be quite different than what you first tried. I had the same apprehension after dual using a while then going back to smoking, but vaping has come very far.

Your aunt does not own your brain chemistry nor your lungs, she is unlikely to KNOW FOR SURE what you will want, though it's nice of her to think that, I guess.

Thank you so much for all the information. This forum seems so welcoming and helpful, I am sure I will be right at home here and with vaping in no time!

Welcome to ECF!

Yes, this site is a virtual library. I learn something almost every day. But be careful--it's addictive as nicotine.

(which really isn't terribly addictive)

I learn something as well, although I rarely apply it...so is that contradictory?

Who says you have to apply it right away?

And frankly, there's some stuff you won't ever even need to apply. Just knowing it is good enough.

One fair warning, @Amikkwe ... beware the Provarinatti. They are notorious thread-jackers and will take your thread to 15+ pages without saying anything even remotely on topic.
Believe they're plotting to take over the world as well.

Worry not, I will be in watch.

I'm a Hoosier by birth, but a Boilermaker by choice.

Nothing wrong with the Evic as long as you have a couple of batteries and a charger. Like Baditude said, you will likely spend more on liquid, so be sure to leave plenty in the budget for that. If I could say anything to a newbie it would be to keep it simple.

I like to recommend the Kanger Topbox Mini kit to new vapers who don't know exactly what they want as it is extremely versatile. It will work for MTL or Direct Lung hits, and has coils available for both those regimens. It also does Temp Control, if you ever want to try that. In wattage mode it runs from 7-75 watts, which covers the gamut from low power to the upper side of medium (it's far more powerful than I would use, for example; I vape under 40 watts and I've been doing it for years). The included Toptank has good air control so you can set it up MTL or DL and an RBA adapter if you ever want to try your hand at building your own coils; much cheaper than drop-in coils. Some people move on from the tank and others like it so much they stay right there. The mod-- the power part, which holds the battery-- will accept all standard atomizers provided they can be coiled to operate under 75watts. The mod is removable battery, which I regard as a plus as the battery can be replaced when it goes bad as they all do. With a fixed battery machine, a year or two and it's a paperweight when the battery goes. My woman and I just bought my son-in-law one of these for his birthday and he loves it.

Vapecrawler informs me there are several places here in the US where you can buy the kit from $55-65. Add two LG HD2C 18650 batteries-- these are capable of running the machine at the maximum of 75 watts-- for about $12 and a Nitecore D2 charger from eBay for $17 and you'll still have a few dollars left in your budget to try some different juices.

Welcome to the board, and good luck on quitting. Let us know how you get on.

+1 for the Kanger Toptank. Perfect tank to discover your air flow sweet spot. Good variety of coils available to find what wattage and draw you prefer. I personally would go with a dual 18650 mod. Smoant Battlestar or Charon tc are budget friendly and reliable solid devices.
