Hi all, just joined in ,need to make 5 posts so I said to myself why not use this first post to introduce myself.
I'm a 61 years old, retired, very light smoker, one or two per day for 40 years,my wife was a half a pack a day but she got COPD and quit.
Soooo, now I have no one in the house who I can pinch a cig from, lol, I need to buy a pack and hide it from her for a 2-3 weeks until I finish it so I decided, enough is enough, start vaping .
Just ordered the starter kit(Evod), have absolutely no idea what it's going to taste like or feel like but I'll soon find out,I took a chance and ordered very "weak" and 2 "mild" e liquid (RY4/nice and smooth).
I hope I don't get high on Nicotine lol.we'll see.
That's it for now.
Talk to you all soon.
Ken.

Hello and welcome @distrbd (Ken). A fellow canuck!

I'm very new here and still learning myself. I know others will jump in soon but I just wanted to wish you luck on your vaping journey. The folks here are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

Re: your juice strength. Seeing as you only smoked a couple of cigs a day you are right in using very low nic in your e-juice.

Play around with your new toy and come here often if you have any questions. This is where you'll find answers.

Welcome!

Thank you all, this forum seems to be a friendly place but of course who wouldn't be friendly after a good vaping right ?lol.
Yeah don't go above .4 and you should be good
Skiby, I'm sorry but what do you mean by not going above .4? is that the strength ? the weakest liquid I could order is 6 mg, how do go about not going over .4?

Thanks.
Ken.

Welcome Ken :)

Nicotine levels are either referred to in mg/ml or in percentages. A 10mg/ml concentration could also be referred to as 1%. I think Skiby might be thinking of 4mg/ml which would equate to 0.4%

You'll know if you're overdoing the nicotine - you will likely get a bit light-headed and perhaps nauseous. Just set your device down and drink some water. The feeling will pass relatively quickly (I had this happen to me last year - shortly after I first started vaping. An uncomfortably hot day, and I was sitting out in the sun - got a bit woozy. Went inside, had something to drink, and about 10-15 minutes later started feeling better.)

If you find your 6mg/ml juices too strong, you could get a bit of Vegetable Glycerin (VG) from your local pharmacy and cut your juice down a bit. You would lose some flavor concentration, but you'd drop the nic level back by whatever proportion you dilute (e.g. 2mL juice with 2mL VG would give you a 50/50 ratio, cutting your nic in half.)

Good Luck - hope you enjoy your new goodies!

Thank you Elizabeth, Dinger, Torannah.
Dinger,Special thanks to you for your very informative reply, you mentioned diluting the juice with VG, I never thought you could buy that stuff (VG) over the counter,it is very likely that I'll end up doing that,I now regret ordering 12mg e juice,I have a feeling it's going to be way too strong, I am planing on ordering the same flavor but with zero percent Nicotine so I could dilute the 12mg and not lose any of the flavor .
For the smaller amount like the 6mg ,your idea of diluting will definitely work for me.
Can't wait to try my new toy, lol.

Welcome Ken! I live in Brighton, ON. I vape two strengths...12mg in my ego-style ecigs and 3 mg in my sub ohm tanks. I just recently got a sub ohm setup about a month ago after using the ego pen-style ecigs for about a year. I have found that the sub ohm tanks produce about four times the amount of vapor and therefore cut my nic strength accordingly. So you'll find that you'll need to alter the strength according to your equipment and your personal taste. I have found that good b&m vape shops who are well versed in setting up new vapers with equipment will recommend nic strength based on the what you buy and how much you previously smoked. (Just my observation based on seeing multiple vendors set people up while I was visiting the store.) Good luck with the switch, I'm sure you won't regret it.

Hi Jimmer, great post , things are starting to make sense (but very slowly lol), for example, I didn't know the strength/dosage may need to be adjusted depending on the type of equipment being used,I had to do google search to find out what a sub ohm tank is ,(still need to find out what RBA/RDAs are), once I try the kit that I just bought and get a feel for the dosage and all, I'm sure I'll want to try that sub ohm tank you mentioned and other e liquids .
Ask my wife, I'm terrible when I start a new hobby/interest, I'll roll down the slippery slope very quickly, lol.

n30nex, thanks and hope you stay in touch.this site seems to be a great place to hang out isn't it.
Yeah it's a pretty great community, it's kinda like Canada was before Harper took over lol!

[QUOTE="distrbd, post: 16486340, member: 265908"still need to find out what RBA/RDAs are[/QUOTE]
An RDA is a rebuildable dripping atomizer, instead of having a tank you just have a cap, you need to manually build your own coils however you like, then add your wick and put a few drops of juice on the wick every couple puffs

A RTA/RBA is basically the same thing but instead of having to drip every time you want to vape you still make your own coil/wick but instead there's a tank you can fill with juice, this is probably one of the most economical ways of vaping when it comes to equipment, no need to buy expensive coils just make em as you go.
