Hey guys. I've now quit cigarettes for almost 3 weeks thanks to vaping and I feel much better for it. I've been a smoker for almost 20 years and hadn't considered quitting ever.

I have a couple EGO-T batteries with an Innokin 16 clearomizer (I think). Previously, I had a Vision 3 clearo, as well as some cartomizers.

I'm not knowledgeable enough at the moment so was wondering about a few things.

1. My clearos don't seem to provide enough flavour compared to cartos. Is this meant to be the case? I thought it was the other way round.
2. How long should wicks last? The last time I used my Vision, it lasted a week before it looked all gunked up and I could barely get any vapour out of it. My Innokin seems to be lasting a bit longer.
3. I've noticed a couple flavours give me an instant headache. Friends who have tried it too have noticed the same thing (not necessarily with the same flavours though).
4. Is it usual to feel like you have fluid in your lungs to cough up? I'm not sure if it's from vaping, or being sick 3 weeks ago, or my lungs detoxifying :p

Thanks guys.

Hey Justo

1. My clearos don't seem to provide enough flavour compared to cartos. Is this meant to be the case? I thought it was the other way round.

If the clearos are higher in resistance this could definitely happen - most carto's are around 1.9 - 2.2 ohms

2. How long should wicks last? The last time I used my Vision, it lasted a week before it looked all gunked up and I could barely get any vapour out of it. My Innokin seems to be lasting a bit longer.

the "wicks" (atomizer heads) life span is dependent on several factors - dark eliquids and sweet eliquids will gunk up a head quicker. I get 3-4 days on my protank heads but I vape a really sweet eliquid

3. I've noticed a couple flavours give me an instant headache. Friends who have tried it too have noticed the same thing (not necessarily with the same flavours though).

This has happened to me also - I thought it might be inconsistent nic - make sure you shake your flavors well before you fill clearo or tanks

4. Is it usual to feel like you have fluid in your lungs to cough up? I'm not sure if it's from vaping, or being sick 3 weeks ago, or my lungs detoxifying

Yes - it still happens to me on occasions, mostly when I am not drinking enough water to rehydrate

Hope this clears up some things for you and your friends.

1) Everyone has a preference as to what taste best. For me its a stainless steel wicked rebuildable atomizer(you might explore those further down the road). For my wife its a simple vivi nova( its similar to a clearo in ways). Also take into account your taste buds are healing from 20 years of smoking damage so your taste will change the longer your vaping.

2) Wicks can last a wide range of time. This will vary based on several factors including pg/vg ratio, flavor, and how much liquid your using. My wife will have a coil last her over a month and vapes 50/50 blend of menthol at about 2-3ml's a day. I use a 70pg/30vg blend but like candy and sweet flavors and can kill a cartomizer in less then a week at about 10-12ml's a day.

3) The headache can be from various things. It could be from too much flavoring which kind of acts like a perfume store to some people. Dehydration as vaping can dry you out, or ever too much nicotine. I often get too much nic when trying out several new flavors and chain vaping them.

4) It could be a combination of the things you listed. Your lungs will take sometime to heal and you may even cough up some nasty stuff in the process of them cleaning out.

Ok, so I should look for lower resistance clearos for more flavour?

2. How long should wicks last? The last time I used my Vision, it lasted a week before it looked all gunked up and I could barely get any vapour out of it. My Innokin seems to be lasting a bit longer.

Gotcha. Makes sense as the one that lasted a week was with a dark eliquid.

Water shouldn't be a problem for me. It's pretty much all I drink (apart from coffee), but noted.

I agree with that, but there seems to be definite difference in level of intensity of taste. I prefer that my clearo tastes "cleaner" whereas the cartos I have tend to have an extra taste from the filling/wick/whatever attached to it, but there's no denying, with my setup, the carto provides a more intense flavour. A couple puffs of my clearo and I pretty much can't taste it anymore.

2) Wicks can last a wide range of time. This will vary based on several factors including pg/vg ratio, flavor, and how much liquid your using. Sorry, im a noob.....I'm not sure what the ratios are?

I got a taste of too much nicotine one night. One of the things about vaping is that it doesn't end after the usual 5-7min of a regular smoke. So I end up constantly inhaling. I ended up buzzy and light headed.

4) It could be a combination of the things you listed. Your lungs will take sometime to heal and you may even cough up some nasty stuff in the process of them cleaning out.

Will be keeping an eye on this. It's not pleasant ;)

Hello, Welcome, and Congrats on making the switch justo316. I have nothing to add seeing as to how it's been covered really well already. I can remember overdoing it on the nic and getting headaches from it and not staying hydrated enough so those two are key. Hope things go more smoothly for you soon! Happy vaping :vapor:

Im pretty sure Im hydrated enough. But it's just that certain flavours (my raspberry swirl for example) give me an instant pinching feeling between my eyes :( If I have something else at the same time (like my banana swirl) it doesn't and I can vape all day ;)

Ahh ok gotcha. I have no idea what mine are. I just get it from a local dude that sells over the net.

No offensive to anyone. But are you sure he knows what he is doing? It would definitely explain the headaches. There are kits you can buy for testing the potency of nicotine in your juice. Or you could buy from known good vendors.
I am not saying he isn't, it is just the comment a local dude that sells it all over the net, kinda threw me off.

No I hear ya. And when I first got passed the site by a friend I was suspicious. I dunno, everything seems to be working fine. At the end of the day, I'm off smokes and have no intention of going back.

Hi Justo, welcome to the forum.

Just as a thought, you can clean your coil heads. All I do is rinse them under hot running water every 2-4 tank fills. This will wash away a lot of that gunk and help you get a cleaner more flavorful vape.

I also do a dry burn every few days or so depending on how bad the coil looks. If you are vaping those sweeter juices, you can often get some residuals stuck to the coil. All you have to do is unscrew the coil from the base, rinse it thoroughly in hot running water, shake it off and screw it back into the base (don't put it back into the body of the clearomizer yet)

Then screw the base and coil assembly back onto your battery and pulse the fire button for a few seconds while blowing gently on the coil. You should see some white smoke come off the coil. Don't worry about the wicks, they are made of silica and cannot be burnt. In fact by doing this, you are actually helping to clean them as well.

Keep doing this until you see the coil glow red. At this point, most of the gunk has been burnt off. So then remove it from your battery and do a final rinse under hot water - this is important as you may have some loosened some burnt stuff down inside the coil and you do not want to vape that.

Do a final shake and blot dry, reassemble everything and you will notice a big increase in flavor and vapor. By doing this basic maintenance, you can make a coil head last 4-5 weeks.

Thanks a lot! I've been expecting to have to buy new wicks every month. But just the other day, I did actually pull an old clearo apart and did exactly as you said apart from the dry burning stuff. I've left it to dry and was wondering if I needed to do anything else to clean it. I'll follow those insrtuctions and get it cleaned proper now :)

I honesty had a mental picture of a guy bouncing around forums (not here, the moderator enforcement is incredible) hey come buy my juice. It's good I swear. But he has a web site and looks like he is heavily involved in vaping. And also the medical aspect of it.
Thanks for understanding my concern. I have never gotten a headache from vaping. In fact, now that I think of it, I don't think I have had one since starting. Good luck, hopefully you find your issue soon.

I had a discussion on here once with someone who insisted they felt safer buying juice from their local supplier than from China.

When I pressed the issue, the poster said this guy comes to his local waffle house and mixes juice in front of him right there in the restaurant.

My gaster was flabbered, I let it lie but I never forgot about it.

I will probably never buy juice from China directly. But have you seen Dekangs juice mixing room. It is actually pretty impressive.

That was my point to the poster when we were discussing it.

A lot of people default to the whole "juice from China = poor quality" position without having done any research at all. Dekang is one of the few juice suppliers that have posted videos of their lab set ups online.
