Hi people,
I'm new to the forums here in general, so just saying hi and asking for some advice re: a vape pen I purchased.

I'm new to this whole vaping scene and was really keen on a oil based vape-pen and found the VaporX XLT and decided to go with that. I ordered it online and the shipping on it costs more than the product, (I live in Australia). Did I make a crucial mistake or error? It does seem a bit pricy compared to many of the other pens on offer but the whole selling point for me was it being oil-friendly. I'm also purchasing some VaporX XL tank cartridges for swapping between different e-liquids. Are these all good buys or am I flushing money down the drain.
Depending on how long the VaporX XLT lasts, I'm sure to look to other pens; just hope the VaporX XLT takes care of all my needs.
Thanks for reading!

Welcome!

You probably paid too much. It looks like the VaporX XL is a basic Ego style battery with a Protank 2 mini. Not a big deal though, at least you got started. How much was it and what does it include?

I paid a bit too much for my first Ego kit but I don't feel too bad about it because it gave me an idea of what vaping was all about.

This is what I bought

KGO Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Organic Cigarette e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

I'm not familiar with Aus laws but I've heard they are cracking down on nicotine.

Not sure what you mean by "oil friendly" but nicotine e-liquids are water based. If you are talking about "other stuff" that's not legal, beware that it's not allowed here.

Hi @tigs and welcome to the forum. I just Googled this VaporX XLT kit...it seems like a big rip-off IMHO. A Mini Protank ($13) and a Ego battery ($15) isn't worth what those sites are charging with their companies branding. I never vape oils so I don't know how well that will work but I've used Protank's and they are decent for starter kits.

It's tough in Australia.

As one of the most respected brands in the world likes to charge TRIPLE the price for everything it sells there and prohibit Aussie Vapers from seeing the US or UK sites, then you have a hard time getting a good deal.

I boycott that company, by the way. Most people don't - they consider it collateral damage.

Maybe you can hook up with all the Aussie Vapers on the "Aussie Vapers" forum...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys,

The KGO you're looking at gandymarsh looks quite cool. After a bit of searching around I started to realize that the majority of these pens have interchangeable parts! The pen I ordered was from VaporX XLT Vaporizer | VaporX Vaporizers | Oil Vapes | VaporizerPenShop.com (hope I can paste urls in here). 79.99 except the postage to Australia cost even more than the pen itself. Real bummer.

Thanks for the heads up Romano.

I think I'll research all the parts required for my next mission into getting a pen. If the ability to interchange parts is there then there must be some pretty decent pens out there.

When I switched, I was spending about $165(US)/month on Cigarettes.

So I figures if the 1st Starter kit I bought kept me from Smoking for about 3 Weeks that it would be Worth it. Because the Starter Kit I bought cost about the Same as 3 weeks worth of Cigarettes. And if I could Just go 3 Weeks without Smoking, then there would be a Good Chance I could Quit for good.

If you Kit does the Same thing, keep you from smoking for 3 or 4 weeks, then it was Worth it in my Eyes.

BTW - Welcome to the ECF.

Yea the price of cigarettes has gone crazy here in Australia. Paying 25$ (AUD) for a packet of 25's. Cost more if it's from 7-11 or a cheap convenience store. Quitting is definitely a priority as I can't afford to spend $80 a week on smokes anymore. Don't think I'll miss them so much if I get some nice fruity based e-liquids. I remember when I was smoking cigars I quit cigarettes; for about a week I was coughing up some nasty flem from the lack of cigarettes even though cigar smoke was definitely present. damn you cigarettes, damn you all to hell!

Yea, you definitely paid too much. Do you have vape shops in Aus? Check out the Aussie Forum mentioned above.

I'm not sure what the laws are there but you should check out FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics They might ship to Aus. Hopefully, they will get through customs. They are based in China.

Hello and welcome to the forum @tigs. Glad to have you here!:)

At some point you will decide you need a backup to your current kit. I often recommend an iStick 30 watt or Coolfire 4 (both mods) with an Aspire Mini Nautilus or eLeaf GS Air M (both tanks) to someone new to vaping. Videos below.

========

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Other Forums

Two other forums you may want to look at for questions on juice/nicotine in country.

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
Don't beat yourself up about not ending up with the ideal vaping device on your first attempt , until i came to ECF i spent a lot on cigalikes but i asked in the "new member " forum and everybody was so helpful.

I had absolutely zero clue what this stuff was about , members even had to post pics of different e cigs and explain to me what each parts function was for.

Don't force yourself to know all about this stuff at first , it's impossible , it does come to you after a while though and being an active member on this forum is essential.

Yea it's a bit overwhelming at first but the more I read the more things are starting to come together.
Thanks everyone !

Also remember that Almost No One is going to buy an e-Cigarette and then Never buy Another. And you are going to Need a Back Up anyway.

So just Concentrate Right Now on getting of Cigarettes. Because that is the Most Important thing.

Yes it is a lot to take in. I suggest a comfortable chair, a glass of water, and puff away on your VaporX XLT as you read and learn more. Plenty of folks here to answer any questions no matter how trivial or dumb they may seem to you, we all have pretty much asked the same things ourselves at one point in time or another ;)

Yea, the ciggies have been cut down considerably. Only 1-3 a day now thank god.

I've been looking at the WhiteRhino Trifecta as it covers all the bases; although now I'm intrigued by the Aspire Nautilus Mini and how to build a operational one by selecting all the proper parts; (and hoping they're listed on Aus retailer too). What would the average price be for a Nautilus Mini with a iStick 30 and all the proper parts needed/included? Would this method of construction ultimately provide a far more superior vape experience than any pre-constructed vape kits?

Thanks Tol :) Unfortunately still another week or so for the VaporX XLT to arrive from the states. Making me feel very impatient and in the mood for going for another one in the meantime from an domestic vendor that will ship within a day or two.

So far I've put together
Aspire Nautilus Mini - Aspire Nautilus Mini
& a choice between these two
Innokin MVP 3.0 - 30W Box Mod - Innokin MVP 3.0 - 30W Box Mod

Eleaf iStick 60W TC Mod - Eleaf iStick 60W TC Mod

Are there tanks/coils/other accessories I'm in dire need of but not employing?
