I'm [finally] ready to buy a couple of e-cigs and quit smoking. I've looked at lots of pictures and read descriptions for about a gazillion of them - and the more I read, the more confused I am.

My biggest questions at the moment are related to the micro USB cord that comes with them. These are new to me. What do they plug into? Maybe the answer to this is somewhere else in this forum, but since I'm new, this seemed like a good place to start. It must not be too difficult, so what am I missing here?

My computer has a bunch of USB ports (mostly 2 and 3 -- not A, B, or C) but no "micro ports."

E-cig ads usually say something like "just plug it into the computer and you're good to go." Ok. Maybe so. But I don't want to start a conflagration -- or blow up my computer. So can I safely plug the 'Micro USB' into one of my regular computer ports ? Will it fit? Will it work?

Actually I would prefer to plug the micro USB charger/cord into a wall receptacle, not the computer. But I don't know what to call the wall plug that I'd need.

Maybe some e-cig sellers have these? Is there a generic version? I've seen large selections of wall plug converters on several Internet websites, but I don't know nearly enough about any kind of electricity or digital technology to figure out which one to get. They mostly say they're for charging phones, laptops, etc.

Sorry 'bout these really dumb questions, but I hope someone can figure out what I'm asking and tell me (prob'ly in kindergarten-level terms) exactly how and where to plug these 'micro USB' charger cords in.

Then I can go ahead and buy my e-cigs and (hopefully) charge them! And trash the cigarettes too. Thank you all for any help you can provide. Much appreciated. Genie

Thanks! I really appreciate your fast concise response! Why didn't I think of that?

Any thoughts on a wall plug converter? Just use any of them that are for USB (and plug the big end of the Micro cord in)?

No iphone charging adapters here. (What does an iphone person sound like?)
Thanks again!

There are often but not always two ways to charge ecigs.
The first is the microUSB2 port which you seem to have down. The issue with microUSB2 is it is fragile and can break or wear out easily. This may not be as much of an issue for a first ecig though because if it turns into something you use long term you will probably want to buy a larger device.

Larger devices often have removable batteries. These can be charged using a dedicated charger, and is the preferred method generally for longer term vapers because they are more cost effective in the long run and can provide an instant power charge with a battery swap. They also tend to be a lot more powerful so they last longer and provide a more satisfying vape

Hi and welcome to the forums @geni3 :)

I tried a number of different e-cigs when I first started humoring the notion of switching from smoking to vaping, brands like Vuse, Blu, and whatever else was readily available at my local convenience store. Eventually, I settled on the JUUL. In my opinion, it's the best of the bunch. Not sure where you live, but if you have access to them, I suggest checking them out. They're really easy to use, work well, and deliver enough nicotine without leaking that you won't be thinking much about cigarettes (hopefully).

My best advice is any time you feel that need for a cigarette coming on, just start puffing away at your e-cig until the urge goes away. And it will go away because it's the nicotine that you're craving. Also, make sure you top off on supplies. The last thing you want to do when you're serious about quitting smoking is run out of vaping supplies.

Also, if you don't find a setup that works right away, something you like, like flavors and vape and all that, just keep on trying until you find something that works for you. Lots of good members here with a lot of insight and advice to offer. Just ask around and you're sure to get a whole bunch more help than you even need. :)

Hey, thanks guys. I thought I'd start out with a "discrete" pen style. There are times when it's better not to be too obvious around here. At the same time I'll prob'ly get a smaller mod type (to hold more juice and make more vapor). Any suggestions / recommendations? My head is swimming from looking at so MANY of them.

I'm sure you're right about the larger devices w/removable batteries, and as soon as I get used to "beginner" versions, I'll do that. That's what I'll want to use at home.

The wall plug adapter for which you provided the link is on my "save" list on Amazon. As soon as e-cigs are shipped, I'll go ahead and get it. (2-day delivery on that one). I'll save the link for the charger 'til I need it. Sure do appreciate the info. Now if you can just tell me which newbie e-cigs to get and where to get them...:D

casual d00d - Your post came up while I was writing the first part of this, and I just now saw it. I'll be sure to check out the JUUL too. Thanx ! I'll take all of the insight, advice and help I can get!

It can be a bit of a tough road at the beginning, but it sounds like you've done your homework in some ways.

I'd be hard pressed at this point to recommend a newb set up, but I CAN recommend that you spend some time listening/watching videos.

To that point, I DO recommend Phil Busardo and Dimi's The Smokers Show. They are well WELL versed in all things vape, and they gear their podcast to those brand new to vaping. I would think you'd enjoy their shows and learn MUCH.

Good Starter Setups for a Beginner Vaper

Probably becoming the most recommended "mod" starter setup on ECF.

Baditude, I appreciate the recommendation. How do people like the Innokin Endura T-18, 20, and 22 for a second and smaller e-cig?
I don't own one, never used one except for the one my daughter purchased.

I do often read or watch reviews of gear that I don't have or use, and these products deserve a look. My favortite reviewer, PBusardo, is meticulous, thorough, and unbiased in his reviews. He believes these particular products are particularly good for smokers looking to quit smoking by vaping. The below video is LONG (over 1 hour and 20 minutes), but well worthwhile for everyone to watch. Watch it when you have the time available to watch it, because everything Phil discusses in the video is important for all vapers or people interested in vaping.

I'll add that my daughter purchased one of these Innokin Endura a couple of years ago. She is just a social and recreational vaper. She didn't care for this setup because she was already familiar with regulated variable wattage mods like I and her boyfriend use. Often, an unsatisfactory vape can be corrected by changing the power settings; you can't do that with an AIO (all-in-one) unregulated setup like the Endura. She didn't like the vape with this setup and was unable to make corrections to improve it. So in hindsight, this was not a good choice for her.

Some people swear by the T series and honestly for a smaller format vape (although I .personally don't like not having the option to adjust wattage) it's not a bad vape, and if you like it, you like it. Nothing wrong with starting small (especially if small is what you want) and I'd probably pick one of the T series over say, a pod or something.

The kit you are being recommended the Zenith/Kroma kit is an absolutely fantastic vape. It is also larger, and is an internal battery mod, not external like I was saying earlier. So you can use a USB port.

I don't think there is a ton wrong with starting on the small side, if you want to find out how you like vaping and whatnot, keeping in mind that if you enjoy it, well, you are likely going to want/need a backup vape at some point, so your first vape DOES NOT need to be perfection itself, it needs to get you going and successful and then you can refine your vape.

Very, very few vapers get things "perfect" on their first setup, I arrived here with a very powerful, direct lung vape that I absolutely hated, but I didn't give up, I just moved to other types of vaping. So you are doing your homework, I would say go with what seems best to you.

Good luck and welcome to ECF.

The Innokin Kroma mod is actually an internal battery mod that uses microUSB charging. That's only thing that I don't like about the combo personally. I'd like it a LOT more if it used an 18650 external battery.

You are as "anti-Juul" as I am "anti-SMOK". I'm curious to learn why?

The standard complaint against juul is Not so much that it is bad but that it is evil. it appears to be a device deliberately designed to addict. Specifically the lack of refillable pods combined with that ultra high 50mg nic content with no path to nicotine reduction
