Hi, new to vaping.
I am vaping for just about a month. Started Aug 3, 2017.
Been a smoker for maybe about 10 years and I've hit the 1 pack a day about 5 years ago.
Been trying to quit for 3 years and failed until I've tried vaping.

A friend of mine introduced me to it. Asked when he mentioned "e-liquid", I thought it was some kind of new terminator type high-tech liquid scientist invented. Nope. Searched the internet - vaping - and found it very complicated with so many types of mods, atomizers, coils, resistances, wattage, etc. I told my friend "Nah, too complicated, not for me." My friend replied "Dude the game your playing is more complicated than that and it might stop you from smoking, go to your nearest vape store and ask for help."

So, because of the "stop smoking" hope, I picked my cat and we went to the vape store. They're very helpful and introduced me to Joyetech eGo AIO Pro C. Screw the pre-made coil, which I found different from the coils I've seen online but happy that these types exist, fill it with high-tech juice, put in the battery, pressed the fire button and vape, easy for beginner's intro to vaping.

After about more than a week, I noticed the pack of Marlboro Ice Blast was still there in my drawer, with 12 sticks inside. I smiled a bit, it's damn working.

Now I'm curious about how safe is vaping and those exploding mods I saw on youtube. After a bit of research which some of it I don't really understand, and remembered somewhere hearing that 18650 batteries are meant to be used together and not singularly, I've got this idea that a safe and powerful mod would be a 4 battery design, two battery in series paralleled with another two in a series or a two series of two paralleled battery. Haven't found those yet but I found Battery Mooch and this forum. Hi and sorry for the looong intro. :D

Hello and Welcome. I bet seeing a pack of smokes sitting in that drawer was funny.[emoji106]I threw mine away the same day I bought my first setup.
The whole exploding battery videos and news you see and read is all operator error, the lack of knowledge with what they are using.(lack of battery safety and ohms law)
18650 batteries can be used in a single batter device(i.e Eleaf Pico) without any issues as long as you know what you are using/doing.
There is a pluthera of information here and ALOT of people to help/answer any questions you have, and answer the questions you haven't even asked yet.
Just wait, people will come out of the woodwork, get a pen and paper handy.[emoji6]

Thank you. Yup when I saw the pack, I actually light one, and it was bad and it felt different. It was not like how I remembered it. Until now I'm still wondering why that is, I still smoke on occasion when we're out drinking with my friends and acquaintances, not all of them vapes, and I bring the small black iCare unit as a cig swap. Its okay but now I wonder how I got hooked on cigs and liked it so much. Maybe it has something to do with how our brain reacts to substances such as nicotine or something.

I'm not planning on using mech/unregulated mods but I hope new innovation would come to us vapers that would eliminate or greatly reduce the risks of those happening even to the non-clever members of the vaping community. But yes educating oneself is the way to go. I guess there is a take away from watching those videos, I got a bit concerned and went and find out if my mod has safety features especially on the battery I use. I got myself educated and now a bit wary of those expensive and beautiful mechanical boxes. :(

I've been vaping about a year and a half after smoking about 45 years, I found it fairly easy to switch to vaping. Nice to see someone who switched early rather than waiting till they had a bad smokers cough.
On the batteries, there was a scare with the lithium batteries because of explosions but remember we are warned about car batteries exploding. If your really worried about the lithium battery exploding they do make a lithium battery that is protected against that happening by putting a pressure vent into the battery so it vents high pressure gas and should not explode. It is usually the positive contact being in contact with the negative contact causing the battery to discharge quickly causing heat and generating gas that causes an explosion. I never had a battery explode
and don't worry about it.

Don't forget there's about 4000 chemicals in cigarettes, which probably means many many addictive agents in those. Don't worry if you dual use too, some might quit cold turkey, others won't. I for one stopped smoking 1 week after i started vaping, i was only having 1 smoke per day (morning coffee smoke :p) , just remember that every cig you don't smoke is a win !

Also like @Tonee N said the exploding mods thing is media making it look worst as always all of those were user errors with mechanical mods. Your mod shouldn't have that issue since it's regulated and has tons of safety features, and batteries are made to be married when you use a dual battery mod if yours is single it dosen't apply to ya :p I don't know if it's dangerous but yeah i didn't take chances when i bought my first dual bat mod.

I too found cigs "different and disgusting" and I couldn't quite figure out why.... I think my body's just not used to inhaling all those toxins anymore. I will note that early on, if I fell of the wagon drastically (like, one time when I went to a concert, they were tasting fine by about cigarette 10, so I avoid them now... I never know which *one* cigarette will cause me to fall off the vaping wagon now, and I don't want to find out, either!

I'm so happy for you that you were able to give up cigarettes so easily, it was a great feeling the first day I realized I had not smoked ONE, LOL.

Welcome to ECF, you'll find a lot of support here, and all the information you will ever need! That's great that you were able to find a setup to work for you so early on in your vaping journey, and I sincerely hope things will continue to go well for you!

The battery stuff... It's pretty rare, and while I love the idea of no battery blow ups, ever, and everyone getting educated, I'm certain there will still be a few darwinists among us, no matter the amount of safety education that happens, but it still remains really rare, usually happens when people buy re-wrapped, unsafe batteries (sadly, a lot of vape shops are the biggest offenders in selling inauthentic batteries, whether they are aware of it or not) and practice safe battery handling. Even if a discharge happens, it often occurs with no one getting hurt. Provided you aren't leaving your mod turned on in your pocket, checking your wraps frequently and rewrapping as needed, as well as purchasing from a reputable supplier, all should be okay. I know I found the idea of my battery "venting" scary in the beginning, but as I came to understand battery safety more and started giving my batteries Respect and the correct care, all has gone well. This is one scare that.... Well, the media often will latch on to a battery scare without indicating HOW the user(s) were abusing their batteries or misinformed, which is a shame as a) it would be educational, not a horror story and b) people in general would be more aware about battery safety. No battery is completely harmless, but high quality cells are pretty reliable these days or no one would be using them for anything, let alone vaping.... I'd love to know the total number of battery "incidents" per vaper but I imagine figuring that out would be tough... Though, I'm thinking it must be a fairly small percentage....

Good luck!

Hello and welcome to ecf. Congrats on your quitting smoking, very happy for you.

I've been vaping three years, no problems with batteries exploding. It's a very very rare occurrence. Just educate yourself on battery safety. Tons and tons of regulated devices out there, just stay in the regulated realm unless or until you feel knowledgeable enough to venture out. Most people never care to venture, and that is just fine.

It's all about getting you off the smokes.. and if you found that place where your happy, it's great to stay right there - although there's nothing wrong seeing if there is a better vape..

Hang around the forums and gain some support and a bit of knowledge! Look forward to seeing you around!

Hi and welcome. First things first, you aren't likely to have any problems so long as you stick with the coils your Aio is designed for and don't mistreat it, so put your mind at rest. It is, unfortunately, possible to "blow up" a mod, or more accurately, cause the batteries to vent with unpleasant to deadly consequences. This generally happens to people who both don't know what they're doing and insist on ignoring good advice. I would write it off to Darwin, but I can't ignore the damage it does to the reputation of vapers and the fact it tends to make government busybodies want to mind my business for me, like they need another excuse. Batteries usually go from any of several causes:

Overload: means simply asking the batteries for more than they can give. If you put a 5 amp battery in a mod and load it to 50 amps, you get fireworks. Still worse, there's a lot of false advertising out there; people saying "their" batteries are good for 50 amps or whatever. This ain't so. Check Mooch's chart for the straight skinny and, as a rule of thumb, for top quality 20A batteries (the most common) don't exceed 60 watts per cell. This doesn't apply to you, or not yet, as you have a built-in battery.

Use of faux-hybrid 510 connectors: The connector is the place where the tank screws on to the mod. Some mods have a connector with no center pin. Rather, it's just a flat metal plate with a threaded hole in it. The tank screws on it in the usual way, but the tank pin makes direct contact with the top of the battery. This can be safely done (by experienced users who inspect their batteries at every change) if the tank has a well protruding center contact. But many don't and the top of the battery can get dented by pressure. This allows the outer (negative) threads of the 510 to contact the top of the battery along with the (positive) center pin, immediately placing you in Downtown Dead Short City, shortly (milliseconds) followed by corkenpoppen mit spitzensparken. Don't go there. Please. This also doesn't apply to you as your machine has a center pin.

Use of mechanical mods by people who don't know how: There are far too many ways for an inexperienced user to get in trouble with a mech for me to detail here, but three of the most popular are the two mentioned above; building a coil too low for an overload, or using a faux hybrid connector (competition mechs are famous for having them) and torn battery wrappers, resulting in an auto-fire, or a condition where the mod can't turn off. Mechs can be safely vaped. I have been doing it for years. But please, before you decide to buy a mech and have at it, talk to me or any number of other people here, who will help you to stay safe.

Mistreatment of batteries, especially during charging: Batteries have a lot of energy crammed into a small space. Any battery, not just vape batteries, can vent if it is mistreated. This releases all that energy far more quickly than the design limit. Then things get hot. Fast. Further, it is in the nature of batteries to be unstable during the charge cycle. This is because the chemical processes by which batteries store electrons are much slower than shooting the same electrons down a wire, which happens at the speed of light (nearly). So, during charging, the charge in the battery "stacks up" near the contact poles, leaving an overcharged region there and an undercharged area in the middle between them, and this makes them unstable. The battery will even that charge out after charging all by itself, but it takes a while for that and for the battery to cool. Therefore, try not to use the machine immediately after charging, or jostle it while it is charging. Put it on charge before you go to bed, and it will be fine in the morning. There have been reported instances of some internal battery mods venting if knocked around while charging. Note the battery type in your mod is the same as in your cell phone, which batteries have also been known to take abuse unkindly. But don't lose sleep over it either: consider how many, many cell phones are out there, and how few batteries vent. It can happen, but some simple precautions will help avoid it.

Never put a backup battery in your pocket unless it is in a case. Shut off or lock your mod when you put it in your pocket so it doesn't fire without you knowing.

Most of those videos you see of peoples pants bursting into flames, a battery was just tossed into their pocket with change or keys..... very bad play.

Thank you guys and gals for your inputs and warm welcome.
I think I stumbled into a nice vaping community forum.
Glad that my fears are, well maybe 90% lessened, but I'll still be extra careful taking care of my vaping equipment and batteries.
Thank you guys, I'll definitely be lurking around the forums and participate when I can. ;)

Good idea to take care of the equipment.
One important thing you should do is take apart and examine your device. Look around and see where the little O rings are located. Most newer people see the pack of O rings in the kits, but have no idea where they go. Plus if you know where they all go, you will also be able to see if one is missing.

No time or deep knowledge, but a couple bits:

1 - ALMOST every "blow up" incident is from someone doing something they REALLY shouldn't, resulting in a short circuit. Do that with 4 battery device, and you just get a bigger boom, so that's not the answer!
Don't put batteries loose in a pocket (they hit keys or change, and short out)
Don't use batteries with ripped wrapper (it's insulation against a short)
Don't use the wrong kind of batteries (great batteries cost $5, come on...)
Don't use a device that you don't know a little bit about (like the kind that make DIRECT "hybrid" battery contact

2 - e-Juice is not that mysterious. I make my own, from just a few top-notch ingredients - control over the flavor, the strength, the safety, and omigosh, the savings. 30 mls costs me about $1.65.
"do you know what's in that stuff???"
"Actually, yes. Yes I do. I make it from a couple pure FDA approved pharmaceutical and food grade ingredients. Do you know what goes in your mocha latte? In your french fries?"

Have fun. Read a bunch here and learn about vaping.
Personally, I have a theory that when it's a bit of a "hobby," that actually makes successfully permanently quitting cigarettes more likely.

LOL, I would've recommended something far more ritualistic, like burning them all with a pile of sage on top, giving thanks to the Indian Gods of Nicotine, and maybe a rain dance or something.... But, anything you do with that pack of cigarettes-- besides smoking them-- is going to be awesome and feel fantastic. Some folks keep them around for willpower testing, but I had no need to do that as the husband is still smoking. I get plenty of tests to my willpower, LOL. Like waking up at 1:30 a.m. with a horrid cold, it seems to be passing swiftly thank goodness, I think I caught something at the PetSmart vet with the boy, that place is germ central. I still feel a bit wonky, but not nearly as much. Getting ill is the worst- and best- test of my willpower, as when I feel awful, I desperately want to smoke, LOL. I didn't, but it was difficult.... I know it's counterintuitive as smoking could only make my cold worse, and yet.... The desire arose.

I just used some WTA juice, and cursed my life... Though I am feeling much better today and if I get over a cold without a bronchial issue, I am just.going.to.die of shock, though I'm telling you, I've never had a cold pass this fast, either.

The husband was happy as since I felt awful anyway I just cleaned the entire house, top to bottom, as I had it on my list of things to do anyway, and I was just like, "Oh, F it..." Kept my mind off smoking, too, and all the bleach certainly helped, I'm sure. I used to hate cigs after using bleach as it changed the taste of cigs so much, now I bleach away in complete happiness....
