I'll concur with the above comments.

If your BF is using a "cigalike", or cigarette-sized battery setup, they are underpowered and don't last very long on a charge. Also, the cartridges which hold the e-liquid are very limited.

More battery power is needed, so he'll need a regulated mod like a iStick 30 or MVP3. The output on these devices are adjustable, and the batteries (charged with a USB cord) will last 1 - 2 days on a charge. Larger than he is using now, but with better performance and still pocket-friendly.

A better juice delivery device is also needed. Adjustable airflow and ability to replace the coil heads are a plus. I recommend an Aspire Nautilus clearomizer.

He'll have to get his e-liquid in bottled form. These usually come in 10 or 30 ml bottles, and available in many flavors and nicotine concentrations. More nicotine concentration, the stronger the throat hit (and the harsher the vaping is).

I know when I first started I hated the cartridge type e-cigs like the Blu. I actually went back to smoking because I couldn't get it to work right for me, it wasn't until I tried a local shop and bought a little EVOD with a little protank on it that I could actually feel the nicotine and give up cigarettes all together

Something like this :

It sounds like he needs a more powerful set up

The battery does make a difference, but the "head" (the part that goes on the battery) is actually the most important component for making satisfying amounts of vapor. The aspire nautilus mentioned above is a good choice, although there are many others.

What kind of budget are you looking at? Are you in the UK? Is your BF seriously considering vaping, or did he just try it as a lark?

And Welcome to ECF!!!

If you have the money go straight for an iStick 50W ($50)and Aspire Nautilus Mini($28). The 50W has a really long lasting battery, and the Mini gives nice vapor and flavor. Also get a 5 pack of BVC coils for the mini. Bottle of juice and your set up to conquer the cigs. The iStick 30 will also work but it only has half the battery life of the 50W, before recharging. With the 30 or 50W you can also grow into "sub ohms", with tanks and coil building. (use the search box at the top right corner of every page is something is said you don't understand, it's keyword activated). As far as other tanks, an eGo threaded Aspire ET-S is a nice glass tank. (I suggest glass because some plastic tanks will crack with citrus and other flavors).

The ET-S is the second one, the 50W w/Nautilus Mini is the 5th one

Hi Jodie.

24mg in a good e-cig is enough to floor a large cow who pumps weights at the weekend.

Yes... a better e-cig is in order. :)

BUT.... beware.

Oh yes.... beware.

You cannot just google "good e-cig" or "best e-cig" or even "wise choice of e-cig for large bull with gym addiction".

You will get ripped off in an instant.

Google search engine in the UK finds only a selection of shops and vendors. It is now 100% rigged.

Please ask on here, or do yourself a favour and shop at an independent vaping/e-cig shop not a "brand shop" like V2 or Apollo.

He is serious about vaping, just didn't find it satisfying, I think when he has the money he will try the more better ones

Hi, Jodie,

(I am glad djsvapour showed up, he's a great reference for good places to buy in the UK, and particularly for good places NOT to buy!)

Post #9 is a good suggestion; perhaps a little on the expensive side, but not outrageously so. It is what I would recommend for someone who is seriously interested in trying vaping, and wants it to work.

There are other versions of the istick (the 20 and 30 versions) which might be less expensive. And a couple different versions of the MVP (the MVP2, MVP 20-watt, and MVP3) which also are excellent choices. (These are all batteries).

The aspire nautilus or nautilus mini are great heads, but there are a fair number of others, and if you browse the forum you will certainly see other recommendations (aerotank, etc). It's a lot easier to give an opinion on a particular choice than to try to recommend all the good stuff that's out there. And there are many "intermediate" choices (which will give much better performance than what he tried already, but are much less expensive than something like a nautilus, and don't perform as well as a nautilus) It's a tough call.

Also, if he's going to have to save up, he might do well going to someplace like fasttech.com, which has cheap prices for most stuff, but long delivery times (since it comes directly from China).

Let me give you a couple of examples, with my commentary.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10005576/1437008-gs-h2-e-cigarette-round-mouth-atomizer-1-5ml

These are dirt-cheap heads that give surprisingly good flavor, and decent vapor. They are not built that well (the plastic top will come off of the metal base if you torque it much) but they're basically disposable (about the same price for a whole head as for just a coil)

Sorry, meant to post a lot more, but I've run out of time! Will check back when I can!

to ecf GIJodie. Nice to meet you and I think it is wonderful that you are here trying to help your boyfriend. I agree with what the others are saying but your boyfriend has to accept that vaping is not smoking. I actually am more addicted to vaping than I ever was smoking. So maybe there are other things that he might try. There are juices that are made with whole tobacco alkaloids that helps some people and he may find it more to his liking and help him. Here is a place that a friend recommends. (I have never tried them but read a lot of success stories using them)

Whole Tobacco Alkaloid WTA Eliquid Ejuice

I vape 24mg juice that I make. I also use Everclear (Pure Grain Alcohol) to make my menthol and I think it adds throat hit for me. I am sure you will get lots of suggestions here because we all care and want to help. Let us know if you or your boyfriend have any other questions and keep up posted on his progress. Again, kudos to you for wanting to help.

I think the main issue is he's wanting the same feel as a cigarette and vaping feels different to him

Vaping IS different, but not hopelessly so. It might seem it with a Nicolites or 10 Motives product in your mouth.

However... as I said....low power equipment produces a light amount of vapour. More vapour = more "hit" and more nicotine and flavour etc.

There is a transition period for most people. With good kit that can be switching overnight (almost) or over a week or even a month - there are no rules.

Imagine if you were hungry... and you saw a lovely plate of food with chips. You'd want to eat that.
If you weren't hungry at all, it might seem worth eating, but maybe you'd choose a salad because that's better for you.

People smoke because they need the nicotine and have a habit. The habit is the same with e-cigs and if you can stop the NEED to smoke (not be craving) then you'll have the willpower to CHOOSE the alternative.

It took me over 6 months. Then again, I used the worst and most expensive brand in UK e-cigs. They said one refill was 40 cigarettes. We now know that those claims were totally false. I still smoked, because I needed the Nicotine.

When I try to vape for the first time I was like him and didn't like it too much. Started with 18mg nicotine with $20 cheap e-cig don't even know the name for it lol. Than the tip broke off. 1 didn't like the down time when I needed to charge... 2 no warm vape like analog cig. 3 flavor was what ever it was ok but not good or great. Bought 2nd one and try to quit smoking. 2nd was ego twist vv around $40. It was better than the 1st but it wasn't a game changer. Than the tank broke when I was cleaning it lol. So I gave up looking for a e-cig thinking that was all there was. One day I came to my friends office and his friend was vaping and asked if I wanted to try. Told him I've tried but didn't think it was something for me. Anyway when I tried his vaporizer (atomic/panze) wow that was so good the flavor, warm vape. even the hit on it was good.
Bottom line is like other people said for a starter go to vape shop not smoke shop. Nautilus should do him fine and if he has good tank it's hard to vape 24mg nicotine. I was smoker for 22 years and vaper for 3 month after 1 Month of vaping I stop smoking. I'm using 6mg nicotine most of the time now. if you can find a nice vape shop they should guide you through it [emoji5]

Last Christmas I started my brother with a Nautilus mini and iStick 20w. He is still at it and smoking less than a pack a week with none on weekends. Today I would recommend the same tank and the 30w. The 30w will last the day for most people and I think the 30w is a better pick for a beginner than the 50w because it's smaller. I like the N mini because because of the taste and vape quality. My brother vapes at 13w and gets almost a month from a coil head. I vape at 7-10w and get about a week out of a coil head (we use the same liquid so his results with the coils is a puzzle). I have several other tanks now but I run them to emmulate the N mini with 1.8 ohm coils, same watts and same draw as the N mini and I get similar results.

I told my brother not to stress about quitting smoking. Just vape and vape and vape some more and see what happens with the smoking. He is very pleased with the results so far. I agree that some mentoring from the right vape shop is invaluable.
