Hello.. New vaper here, smoker for almost 40 years. Already down to less than 5 Smokes a day.
Current set-up is EGO 1100mah fixed bats with either a CE4, PT mini clone or PT3 mini mounted. I also picked-up a $5 rda, think it's called a catapillar, don't like it at all. But then it's a cheapy clone. The crappy coils it came with may be the issue, but I think the real issue is bad design. I do want to start wrapping my own coils, but I think I can use the PT3 or Kanger clone, to learn a bit on.
As for fluids. Leaning toward tobacco flavors at the moment. Been using mostly Cigarette store stuff, so far. Finally got my order from, Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco, Tried all of the Cigarette menu and some of the single varietals. Loved the stuff. Even after waiting almost 3 months for the first order to be delivered.... I have place a second order already.

Well since I a have to make a few post, here before going elsewhere....

by for now

So, I want to start winding my own coils.
Have questions:
Nichrome or Kanthal - Kanthal sounds like it is easier to work with, but nichrome would be more "healthy" i would think.

What gauge?? Based on what I have read, and my own opinion after 3 months of vaping and current batteries. I think i want to shoot for around 2 ohms and a single coil. The only real difference between the single coil Kanger PT1/2 clone I have and the Kanger Dual coil PT3, is the PT3 goes through fluid a bit faster.

Whats next power source? This is where I'm really lost. No Idea where to start.

I have all sorts of mods and atomizers. Most of them get used at some time or another.

However, as a basic day-to-day set up, I think the Aspire mini Nautilus (BVC coils) on a Spinner, MVP or Vamo/Evic type is hard to beat.

:)

Next battery I buy will at least be a VV spinner bat. Thing holding me back from the mods is, size and asthetics.. Sorry but most "mods" look like the "toys" they sell on Adam and Eve. Am looking at the MVP 2

Yeah, I got the Kanger PT3 cause they cost half what the Nautilus does. I didn't know better then, and I didn't know what a BVC was back then. I think I will try build the PT3 as BVC. Should at least get clost to the Nautilus.

I agree with you on a lot of the tube mods looks. I prefer boxes. The MVP2 is very popular and you rarely here of anyone having any trouble with them. There's a new one, the eleaf istick that goes up to 20W, which looks to be a good choice, but it hasn't been out very long and unproven how durable it will be. I'm really enjoying mine so far, it's a lot smaller than the MVP with nearly as much battery life.

An RDA would be easier to learn how to build on, more space to work with than the Kanger coils. I use 32ga Kanthal for the kangers (around 2.2 ohm) and 28 or 30ga for RDAs (1.2 to 1.5 ohm). I don't know anything about the Catepillar, but I wouldn't dismiss it totally until you tried your own coil in it.

to ecf 93gc40. Glad to have you here and congrats on the vaping. I did both for a while also but I just kept naturally cutting back on real cigarettes because the vaping tasted so good. Here is a thread that I use to check before I started DIY. Good place to find deals and try new flavors.

Still using set-up I started with in July. EGO11mah with a kanger mini PT3 with vert wound coils at 1.8-2 ohms.

Current choices I'm considering are MVP or Istick, OR Mech Mod with a Kick2. Either will be topped with an Orchid or Kayfun tank and the Kangers. Leaning toward a brushed stainless or brass Mech. Not because I want to sub ohm, I DO NOT. But because I believe the mech will be the most durable option. Less to break. Also being ADD, not having buttons to play with. Is a good thing.

Welcome aboard. I looked at the catapillar but passed. Glad I did after hearing your description. I have a Patriot and a Tugboat. I really like the Tugboat. I also use a Kayfun Lite for times when dripping is not convenient (like when I'm driving). If you want to get into building your own coils here are a couple links that you should find useful.

Hi and welcome to the forums....I had just bought myself the MVP 2.0 and am very glad that I did. I started out with the Vision II spinner batteries (2) and found out that they have a problem with charging. Nothing too bad, just sometime have to watch and make sure that it charges. Sometimes I would comeback home to find out that the battery didn't charge the first time so I had to charge again, always worked the second time. Never had to worry because of having 2 batteries right away. As it is now with the MVP, I charge it on the 3rd (full) day during the work week and 2nd (full) day on the weekends. Its really nice not having to worry about running out of steam after the first day like Friday night. I easily Vape all day Friday, all day Saturday and not worry about running out of power if I decide to go out Saturday night. I always carry a spare because you never know...
