Hello there,

I'm new to vaping. I've been a smoker for 14 years almost and wish to quit through vaping.

A few months ago I purchased a RX200 from a coworker and tried then. The liquid I used was sour vapes red cherry. Tasted almost like a warhead!

It went well until I ran out of juice and decided to hit up the local vapor store. The guy behind the counter was extremely shady. Everything there was marked up extremely compared to online prices. I purchased a 20ml bottle of something with menthol for $25, and left.

The new stuff was horrible, and threw me off vaping. I went back to my RYO cigarettes.

I'm looking to try again.

I have no pre existing knowledge what so ever on how this works, and want to do my best to learn. I am hoping people here can provide me with places I can learn more about vaping.

I purchased a innokin itaste hunter, a skyhook rdta tank (was told this would be overly complicated for me, and I believe it is!) a TFV8 Big Baby Beast, and a nautilus mini.

I've purchased a lot of juices, 2 60ml bottles of sour vapes, one cherry (Yay!) and one Lemon Head flavor which I have yet to try yet. I also purchased a lot of 10ml bottles to try from VapeWild.

Currently using the nautilus mini at 1.9 ohms? First wattage fired was 30, and I've since gone down to 10-20 watts. The current flavor in the tank is wild berry harvest, 12mg of nicotine. I have to say that my first hit was extremely harsh, and most of the others after have been almost the same. I assume this is because of the nicotine count? Or maybe I fried it firing on 30 watts?

I waited 2 hours before firing to be sure the cotton wick absorbed e liquid.

A few more things, the tank the Hunter came with, I believe it's the iSub V? I cleaned it out using cold water, pulling it apart and cleaning the entire thing. Was this a bad idea, or is this how you are supposed to clean a tank?

Again I would like to apologize for my newbie questions. I have tried doing some research online, but a lot of the information I don't fully understand. Things like resistance, Ohms, wicking. Dry hits and rebuilding tanks. What an atomizer is.

I kind of feel hopeless here, but I really want to learn, and I really want to stop smoking.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Urzz & welcome
You will learn lots here as there are lots of folks willing to share their experience and knowledge. A fella named Brother Bob will undoubtedly give you some good links to read.

You wattage setting will always depend on you and what you like. The power level affects the flavor and the vapor both in quality & quantity. Next time start purposely low and work upwards until you find the sweet spot. It helps avoid dry hits which is when the wick (the cotton surroundinding the wire coil) is scorched by too hot a coil &/or too little juice in the wick. It tastes really bad like taking a hit from a burning T shirt.

PS. iSub V is a decent tank but Innokin make so many different coils it's hard to decide what's good.
So, I bought the entire catalogue. :)
The Kanthal 0.5ohm are OK. In the end I settled on 24 watts. Coil life is disappointing so might last better around 20w.
The SS316 (included in the kit) is a horror show. Avoid.
The 2.0ohm is fine if that floats your boat (meh) and the 0.2 is like the 0.5 except can genuinely get to higher than 0.5.
They need to be cheap as the competition (aspire, eleaf) are making Innokin look like amateurs.

I would suggest starting at 6Watts and slowly increasing wattage a couple of puffs at a time.

It's my opinion that more than 12W on a 1.9ohm coil is not going to be pleasant.

Yes, there is a significant chance that coil is now burnt.
Thank you for the link, I am assuming because of how bad it tastes that it's a goner. I think it's the same with the isub v that it came with because I tried using that it again and it tasted really bad too. Glad they came with extra coil things. So I'll let them dry out and rebuild them, hopefully things go better this time.

Luckily it would seem that I didn't ruin the big baby beast tank, it tastes a lot better than the others, no burnt taste at all.

I am curious about the TC setting, is the tank the itaste hunter came with a TC only coil? It's SS 316 and I was vaping it on wattage.

I am beginning to think I should've started out on something smaller and less complicated.

Unfortunately the wick is most likely toast, yes. Good news is they become second nature to change:peasier than socks:lol:

I never could get a pre-made coil to do anything but dry or anemic hits. (I had amazingly bad luck) so I ended up investing into rebuildables, easier to swap a fresh wick into. I don't have to have a fancy coil to show off, I just wanted a juicy, full flavored hit:thumb:

I think I'm too new to try rebuildables but it is definitely something else that I would like to learn.

You can vape SS using watts. It does both.
You'll be OK with your hardware, just double-check something if not sure.
Not wishing to upset anyone but those old voltage charts are not great. Referring to things from 2013 can be unhelpful. Most coils have watt ratings. Mostly they are optimistic or (cough, cough) a marketing lie. A coil claiming 40 watts for example might never make 40 watts without risking burning.
The community normally has answers. Trust the users not the vendors and certainly not the review sites. They'll say anything for commission. It's easy to say "wow, this coil really vapes at 60w" when you're basically gonna throw it away later that day. Most review sites who make money are charlatans. Remember that and prepare your pinches of salt.

Once you've learned to use the devices (which I think sellers in brick&mortar stores should be showing buyers), and you come to enjoy them, it will be money well spent.

Here's a hint the guy at my local store gave me: the coils typically (not always) have the safe wattage or voltage ranges printed on them. You might have to look real close under good light.

You could try soaking those coils in some vodka and/or distilled water and drying out for a day to get the burnt taste out. It sometimes works.

Yes, you can use the SS coil in wattage mode

Welcome and glad you joined. Your ohm range is a good place to start vaping. I vape in and plan to never leave the 1.9 ohm range because I see no need to.
In General higher ohm coils/lower wattage (generally MTL) vaping will:
Heat the coil slower, which may produce “less” vapor
Provide A “cooler” tasting vape, can produce more flavor
May use less E-Juice (<$ less money)
Prolong battery life (<$)
Prolong coil life (<$)
Prolong wick life (<$)
May result in less PV maintenance/Issues
Less irritation to non vapers
Aids stealth vaping
May be better in the long run healthwise (<$)
