Glad to have found this forum.

Glad to have you Ken, why don’t you tell us a little bit about your vaping experience. What kinda mod you using? What kinda atomizer? You a low wattage MTL vaper, a high wattage DL vaper, or a fancy pancy TC vaper? How long you been vaping? You doing it to quit smoking? If so how long you smoke for?
Of course only tell us what you are comfortable sharing and enjoy the wealth of information contained within the forum.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a fairly long-time smoker (since the late 80's). I've only recently started vaping nic but I'm not really trying to make the switch, so I still mostly smoke -- although occasionally I'll actually skip a .... for the vape. The vaping is just for fun for now, while I figure it out.

I have a Wasp Nano on an Ehpro Mod 101. It has a 13- or 14-wrap 28awg k1 coil that I'm going to guess is between 2.5 and 3mm ID (at some point I'll get around to measuring my screwdriver). The coil reads 2.63ohms and I've been running 8-10W indoors and 12-14W outdoors. November in Toronto...

Finding a flavour I like has been a challenge. I'm not someone who likes sweets; I like things like black coffee, grapefruit, sushi, gin martinis, bacon and yes cigarettes. I've been using the house menthol from Dashvapes here in Toronto and it's been alright. Flavourless is okay too. I haven't found anything else that I like, not even a little.

Like I said in my first post, I'm glad to have found this forum. I'm continuously amazed at, and appreciative of the kind of resources and communities that exist on the internet. I have questions too, so once I've had a look around this place and got my bearings, you'll probably be seeing more of me.

Thanks again for the welcome.

I started vaping after I got in an accident that left me disabled. I knew I’d be going without any income for a spell and did some quick math on how long my savings would last. Well I knew I was gonna have to cut some expenses if I wanted to stave of homelessness so something had to go. Smoking was an obvious choice with the price per pack becoming more and more obscene every year. Quitting wasn’t very hard for me being that I didn’t have the money for it so I didn’t have a choice. Also vaping just tastes better. Anyway you should try an RY4 juice. RY4 is a little tobacco with some vanilla and caramel and some sweetness. Depending on the brand some are more sweet, some not so much and various levels of vanilla and caramel. Nicotine salt juice would be worth a try as well. You can have higher levels of nicotine without it getting to harsh. I like it as it gives me a little nic rush if I take a big hit. Anyway I just thought I’d share a little of my story and make a few suggestions to try and help you find a juice that you’ll like. Best of luck to you, I hope I could be of some help.

Welcome Ken

Having smoked 1 1/2 pad for 40+ years, I joined this forum in August 2017 hoping I could just 'cut down'. As I slowly developed a solid vaping habit, having found good vapes and liquids, I cut back more and more on cigarettes. I was told by folks here at ecf that cigarettes would begin to taste bad. Didn't believe them at first, but they were right.

Smoked my last American spirit on May 11 this year.

Dual using is perfectly ok, in my book. Whatever works for you.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Vaping may go along way to help you keep healthier. If you want to smoke and vape, go for it. Might like to read:
Vaping 2 years/still can't quit cigs
Finding a flavour I like has been a challenge.
You are correct. Most folks who fail at vaping can't seem to find the right all day vape (ADV) juice. Might like to visit the major juice categories again and bore down to some flavors that may spark your interest:

Hello and welcome to the forum. There are some folks here who stopped smoking as soon as they got their first vape. I'm not one of them. I started vaping with an ego style e-cig and some low nic juice. It didn't work for me. Finally about 6 or 8 months later, I think, I returned to the same vape shop and found a very helpful sales clerk who listened to me and helped me pick out a decent tank and mode along with an unflavored juice with a level of nicotine that was better. About two weeks later, on my birthday, I had my last cigarette. The next day I found this forum and haven't had a cig since then. Having a good mod, tank, and the proper level of nic made the switch much easier than I thought it would. I didn't mean to be so long-winded.

Hi welcome to ECF. Just keep trying stuff, and I'm sure the board will be a help. The right flavor can make a huge difference, as can other things if you continue to struggle. Lots of folks dual use in the beginning. I first encountered vaping about 6 or 7 years before I actually went vape only. I dual used a bunch and wasn't really looking to quit.

I was a 3 ppd smoker, eventually health issues caught up to me. It was still hard, and I had to modify a bunch of things, but ECF was a huge help, so stick around. And good luck! The more you know about vaping and the more experience you get, the easier it will get, however.

So I hope you enjoy your stay here,

Anna

Wow amazing responses to a "Hi" thread that I only posted because the adminbot told me to, haha. You guys are all awesome and I wish I had time to respond to every post.

I already had the mod for another device (Saionara atomizer for concentrates), and reading up on e-cig vaping appealed to the tinkerer in me. I'm someone who likes cooking my own food, building my own PC's, rooting and customizing my phones. The huge variety of rebuildable e-cig options in materials, techniques and electrical config as well as the near-instant results sounded right up my alley. I picked up the Wasp to explore -- if you're interested, I just posted a bit more about that in the Oumier Wasp thread.

Moderate nerve damage in one hand and hearing loss in one ear have recently curtailed my lifelong hobby as an amateur musician. Kinda takes the fun out of baseball too (my other love) when you have no idea where your throw is going to end up. So this has just kind of naturally filled that void, and very nicely.

It wasn't about getting off the cigarettes; it was more about a fun, convenient, indoor nic delivery option (I go out on the balcony to smoke) for the winter that wasn't going to break the bank, that was also going to help me keep my mind and hands occupied. I'm still a smoker and I'm not going to try to pressure myself to even cut down -- I think we all know what happens when you're not ready but try anyway... My life is stressful enough atm without the ups and downs of denying myself a cigarette when I feel the need.

Having said all that, I am mindful of the fact that I've already started skipping the occasional .... for the vape. As it gets colder and windier and wetter I wouldn't be surprised if that happens more and more frequently, especially once I settle on an atomizer that suits me and if I can find a flavour I like.

I did quit smoking once before -- cold turkey -- and went for years without a single ..... I went back because I needed to and that's where I still am today. At some point I may end up off the smokes again and if that happens, great. If it doesn't, that's okay too. Either way, vaping has become a very pleasant and rewarding discovery for me. Looks like I'm coming along at a great time too, with an amazing spectrum of choices available for every single detail.

Oh one other thing that I noticed but haven't read about, or maybe I missed it... I experience nicotine throat/chest hit while inhaling *and* while exhaling, which was unexpected but definitely something I like. I don't get that from cigarettes or cigars, and I'm one of those heathens who inhales cigars.

Hi, Pokeroo. I know what you mean about flavors. I'm beginning to think I'll end up vaping unflavored in the end, since 'most everything I've tried tastes fake to me. The only exception is menthol/mint. I always hated menthol cigarettes, but vaping made me realize that the tobacco was the problem. Occasional mintiness is a refreshing change of pace.

Me too, menthol is the only flavour I've liked so far and I can't stand menthol smokes either.
