I own a protank 3 dual coil but dont like it. I personally favor the protank 2s, single coil, so much so that I own five of them.

It is actually possible to build dual coils in the protank 2s, I file out the slots on the atomizer cup to about twice their normal width. You can then build dual coils side by side

I rebuild all of my coils, for all of my devices. I - hate - silica!

I base the 9.8 figure on a fully charged battery (4.2v) on a 1.8 ohm coil.

My protank coil build:
1/16th internal diameter
8 wraps contact coil
30 AWG kanthal A-1
1 strand ekru peaches n cream cotton yarn
No flavor wicks

In my protanks I vape almost exclusively 70/30 pg/vg at 12mg.

On drippers I vape as close to 100% vg as I can get.

PS. I drill out one of the airholes on all protank 2s to 1/16th

I would like to see a pic of this!

Nope, single coil. While dual side by side coils on a protank 2 are fun, they are too much of a pita to build.

Ah; ok;

So you can vape a protank rebuilt single coil 1.8 ohm at 4.2 volts = 9.8 watts; with 70%PG

I just imagine a disturbing thought of among the thousands of people casually perusing the ecf board from all over the world, many of them with protanks, and many of those just got their new shiny toy, cranking up to 10 watts on the stock coil of their protanks thinking that's supposed to be pretty normal.

Lol true, the stock coils are... terrible to say the least.

it's certainly not normal out of a stock coil. you need something as suggested by nataani and TrenTC like my old coil in a protank head here...

starts off life like this...

then wicked like this...

and sits just below the flue like this...

it takes some work to get right at first. but once you get it, you got it.

You have to fiddle with them a fair bit to make sure they dont contact the cup. Also, you have to make sure you oxidise the wires very well just in case. This build meters at 0.8 ohms.

Nice handywork;

That's not a protank base.... what base is that?
The protank base doesn't have all that room where you have all that cotton round in a circle.

Came out at 1.9, same vape experience as my 1.8s with 30 awg (pictured below)

i wish you well. it's a tough nut to crack for some folks. if you have a mod capable of lower ohms, i might suggest taking a wrap or two off and allowing it to breathe a little.

I prefer 1.7-1.9 on my protanks.

Edit.

Hrm, ok, been vaping on this 28 awg vs the 30 awg on two different protanks, same juice. I have to say that the 28 seems to have less flavor than the 30. Maybe to do with the fact im using cotton yarn, the 30 has a smaller ID than the 28.

Me too. I wonder the same.
I have a provari with an airflow and at 3.5 with 2ohms my coils burn every day! I'm new to this and so sick of buying coils but I don't have time to make my own. I don't get how people do it when I burn and short at such a low 3,5. What is wrong? I bought my set up as
I don't want to build . I'm tired of burnt taste and buying coils and shorts! Please help! I just want to vape without work. I have kids and no time . I use my egos now and I'm mad as the provari cost me a mint !

What is your tank? 2 ohm coil shouldn't burn out at 3.5 v ?

yep, same here. could be a few factors involved.

heating up an atty can mute flavors, but that doesn't explain muted flavor on the first draw. though, it does explain the dwindling effect when chain vaping.

i think a lot of it has to do with air flow and wicking. air being concentrated at the center of the coil and not getting juice there sufficiently, etc.

either way, the dynamics aren't ideal if flavor is what you're after.

but to use more power without burning... yeah, it will work great for that.

BTW, builds look great! keep up the good work.
