I think I had an attack of what I call "addicts anxiety": (being afraid that e cigs might not keep working for me.)

Ack. Reminds me of the old bad days when I was scared I might run out of booze before the liquour stores opened!

Anyway, I've ordered some cartomizers, and in the meantime I've taken what you all have said to heart and adjusted my expectations accordingly. You're dead right: no matter how much time and effort this all takes, it's one helluva lot better than the alternative, for these poor old lungs.

I am having better results after realizing I did need to relax and drag more slowly...sip instead of gulp, more or less. Sheesh! It's not easy being a life long addict!
(I want what I want when I want it!!)

I will hold off on buying any new equipment till I see how the carts work. I will. I will. I will!

Thanks, everyone! This is a heck of a good place to be.

Scribe I`m with you on ALL accounts. Don`t hold out hope on the cartos though. They may not be for you, they weren`t for me. To me it`s like vaping through a pillow, I don`t get the taste nor the TH I desire. I see you have an Ego (you probably find that as ironic as I do=), as I do as well. Keep trying cart mods. especially the blue foam mod. I promise once you get it right, you can hit it back to back to back until the cart is dry without the vapor or flavor ever falling off.

Everybody says dripping, I don`t disagree, but when you get a cart mod perfect it`s like dripping to me, only I can fill 15 drops and have it last 2 hours. I`ll even make you some up and send them to you if you`d like? It really was that sweet spot for me. I felt unique (again), nobody smoked like me, nobody vapes like me, it doesn`t take as much to satisfy them as it does me, until I got the right cart mod! PM me if you need help or are interested in me making you a couple.

So glad you ordered some cartos, because you'll probably find them so much easier!

I was not a smoker for as long as you..."just" 38 years for me, lol... but I certainly can sympathize with the frustration you're feeling...probably everyone here can.

I've been smoke-free for 2 and 1/2 months, quitting the day I got an e-cig, but there have been many days when nothing seemed right...in fact, when I look back at the first two weeks or so, I'm surprised I kept on vaping...but I did and you will, too.

Cartomizers, for me, were the answer...I hope they are for you, too!

I was going to say the same thing. I've only been following this site for a week and I've only been smoking for a little more than half my life (a mere 18 years) but I know exactly, that feeling of frustration and anxiety that comes with quitting smoking.

It's good to see so many supportive and helpful people. You get a sense of community as soon as you start exploring around here.

Good luck scribe. Several of us need it!

Yes, I DO feel it, and it means a LOT.

It's not "natural", or easy, for me to ask for help: I'm such a stubborn ol loner. :) People here have been just super, and have made it much easier to do.

So I will hang close from here on...:)

We lifers are trying to break a habit of 40/50 years. That is like 2000 to 2500 weeks!!!

The longest I ever stayed without an analog was on those intercontinental flights, and they were only 14-16 hours at a stretch. Analogs tasted good!!!!!!! Yummy.

Now, I am going on 6 weeks without.

I already have over $500 invested in e cigs, and made a bunch of mistakes.

But e cigs are a lifestyle change. It means preparing for the next day: plenty of charged batteries, filled carts, cleaning parts. Even my mistakes are proving not to be mistakes.
I was really disappointed in the joye 510 battery life and started to go for big battery, big amp models like the screwdriver, but when I am moving around, I don't like holding my Screwdriver with my teeth. The much lighter 510 is better for me when I am not at my desk. So I keep both.

But as with any lifestyle change, it won't be easy. There are lots of people here who are far more knowledgeable about the technical side of vaping, so I won't even attempt to help you there.

All I can say is 6 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 weeks without, after over 2000 with.

We are like the guys from AA, we help each other. Right now I am feeling strong about my quitting analogs. Tomorrow may be another story. I will offer you a helping hand. Someday, I may need that favor returned or maybe not. If nothing else, I can build up some points because I can help someone stay away from devil tobacco.

I'll gladly take that helping hand, and will have mine extended your way too, should you ever need it. It's just so good to be around other "lifers" who have found this second chance to stay well. You betcha we need to stick together! Thanks for helping me hang onto my 18 smoke free days!

:) ONward!

On either the 510 0r eGo, I get a satisfying "hit" for maybe three puffs on a new batt, then it drops off a lot. Went up to 26 mg pg nic, helped some, not much.

I feel the same way. I'm a new vaper, a week into the experience also with an eGo. I've found by putting 3 drops directly onto the atomizer and filling a cartridge I'm getting decent vaper for longer. It's not perfect but it's better than what I was experiencing. I've just now gotten eliquid, flavored - menthol, Marlboro, spearmint and coconut. Though I've never smoked menthol cigs I find it quite satisfying to vape. With three drops on the atomizer, one drop of different flavors (coconut, menthol and Marlboro) is quite the pleasure to vape.

I've done quite a bit of reading and I think I'm going to make a high voltage juice box. You can buy one if you're not the mechanical type. I suspect, though I don't have any experience to draw upon, that a high voltage juice box is going to give that "sweet spot" you and I am craving. The juicebox is going to allow fresh juice on the atomizer consistently so there will be little need to "fiddle" with the exception of occasionally rotating out and/or cleaning the atomizer.

50-year smoker here too! 2-3 packs a day towards the end. Heck, I'd look in the ashtray and would see I had 2-3 analogs going at the same time! Sheesh... chainsmoker I was! The first week I got my e-cig I smoked 1 pack that entire week and that was only because I needed to fiddle a lot to get it right. I have not smoked since! :toast:

Try the 510 cartomizers. You will like them. I have both Low Resistance attys and regular atties but I definitely prefer the cartomizers. I use a Riva which is like an eGo. You made a good choice there! I prefer it without the cone but that's really a personal choice.

You can buy the blank Soft Cap ones here: LitecigUSA They hold about 1ml of juice, about 20-25drops. They last a long time and are very very easy to refill. The caps pop right off with a paperclip or something similiar. I use a dental pick which is perfect for this. Or you can simply top-off by dripping into the battery end of the carto.

Vapor and throat hit will drop off when juice starts running low or when battery starts getting weak. Try topping off, if that's needed, and replacing the battery with a freshly charged one. Also, hold down the button for a sec before you inhale as this will warm up the atty and you will get a better hit.

Best of luck to you!

P.S. I see now where you said fresh battery. Did you condition your batteries before using them when new?

Hey Scribe, Congrads on not giving up and reaching out.

When us old farts were in school an IBM electric typewriter was state of the art. As an adult I have had all this technology stuff to learn and everything from my first cell phone to my first computer gave me a moment when I wanted to give up (actually what I wanted to do usually involved a hammer or an open window). But just like the cell phone and the computer I learned (often in spite of myself) and incorporating them into my life has made it richer. This will be like that too, I promise. It's been 6 months for me today!

The USB passthrough helped me a lot in the first few months because it always puts out the same 5v.

Trying to help some one out, this has ended up being one of the best threads for me. we have so much in common. puts a smile on my face to read about so many long term smokers using a modern type replacement device.
Maybe we could start a old fart forum. I remember when.
what do you think? :drool::yawn::?::?::confused:

I think one person touched on this but I want to reitterate that before you go spending on all sorts of other stuff you might want to take another look at the filler material in your carts...if you're refilling carts and vaping heavily that stock polyfil just doesnt cut it and cant keep up...
That's why alot of people with the 510 use a cart mod (fancy words for replacing the stock polyfil with something else)....the popular ones seem to be blue foam (what I use)...pyramid tea bag (PTB mod)....and a silicone plug but no filler (ZFM mod)...oh and highping's cart mod...

Any of those should help the issue you're having...

Secondly, if you're vaping primarily a tobacco flavored juice (or other dark colored juices)...those tend to build up quite a bit of gunk on your atty coil... so the second thing I would do is about once a week blow out your atty dry...and then pulse the button on your eGo on and off watching the coil and blowwing gently into the atty to do a dry burn....it burns off the gunk that's built up on the coil...just keep doing that til you can hit the button and you get a uniform glow across the entire coil almost instantly without blowing on it....then reprime your atty with 2-3 drops..take a drag and add maybe another 2 drops if it's still a bit dry...

Those 2 things should keep your eGo performing optimally for months..

It sounds like a battery problem to me - or maybe your juice isn't a high enough nicotine level. It could also be the flavor you're vaping. Some juices are just tastier than others and/or have a richer flavor. Everyone's taste buds are different, so the only real solution is to try lots of flavors/strengths and search for "the one."

Do you have a passthru? They can make a world of difference in your vaping experience.

Very similar story here too. 30-40 years of smoking. 2-3 packs a day. Been analog free since Mothers Day:)

At about the 2-3 week mark, I too started getting frustrated. 'What now, is the atty dead, is the cart empty, is the batt dead, what's wrong?' My kitchen counter looked like an operating room-tweezers, dental picks, scissors, pliers, blue foam pieces, drinking straws and a whole mess of little bottles filled with strange colored liquid. Couldn't leave the house without a suitcase full of gear.

I figured there had to be a better way. So I started looking around here and found juice boxes. OMG, no more topping off, no more condom's, no more blue foam or tea bags. When your ready, take a look, you can build one cheap, or buy one. I of course recommend the one in m sig, but there are others.

But no matter what, hang in there! I'm as obsessive as everyone else around here and I made it, you can too.

i am 52 and was a 50 a day man as well.i have been on e cigs for 3 months now with no cigs.i need clouds of smoke a throught hit that would blow the head off a 20 a day smoker and lots of battery life.
so here is my heavy duty set up.
silver bullet with 2 3 volt batterys for 6 volt vapeing.
AFS holds 6 mill of liquid used with carts drilled with 1.5 mm hole.much cheaper than atties.
i have 8 3 volt batterys i rotate every 8 hours or so..perfect vape every time.
i use 24mg virgina took ages to find my fav flavour but this is perfect for me.

dont give up just takes a while to find a good set up
