I hit the PV when I have a desire for an analog. Most of the time, the urge goes away. 5 or so times a day, I have an analog and it's dry and tasteless. I think there's something there that my brain wants, especially after a meal. But, I'm down from 40 a day to 5 and that's great. My lungs feel 25 years old.

Ecigs are more like smoking a pipe than they are like smoking cigarettes. There's a little maintenance involved. At first it seems way too complicated, but after a couple of weeks of discovering the "personality" of the Ecig it gets to be second nature.

I tried all the filler mods and finally decided that the Pyramid Tea Bag mod worked best for me. I like the full material from a PTB in my 510 carts. I'm using it now with a MEGA cart and atty in the Ego. I can put 25 or so drops of thin liquid in without removing the PTB or 12-15 drops of thick VG. The mega cart allows me to go longer without refilling and keeps the taste and vapor really strong.

I drove back from Panama City to Macon (6.5 hours) yesterday and only had to refill the mega PTB cart once! I did smoke about 3 analogs during the trip, but was hitting the Ego every 10-15 minutes all the way. YMMV

Before I bought the Ego, I would sometimes use the USB pass through when I was watching TV after charging it fully from my laptop. I could touch up the cart and not worry about batteries while watching a movie.

Filler contact with the atty is key to maintaining vapor and taste level. If you suddenly get dry metallic taste, your atty is dry. Either the cart is dry or the atty is not wicking the liquid. Blue foam or PTB fillers will help with that. The highping mod is also a good option.

Understand your Ecig and how it works. The filler in the cart holds the liquid and maintains a wet end that contacts the bridge in the atty. As the atty feeds the liquid to the atomizer coil through the atty mesh, more liquid is wicked from the cart filler to replace what was heated and vaporized. A dry atty with a full cart means that the filler isn't contacting the bridge. The filler may be pushed back into the cart or the filler is just not wicking the liquid to the end of the filler.

Pull the filler out with tweezers when you get a dry burnt taste and look at it. You can see an orange color where there's juice. If it is white at the end and orange farther into the cart end, it is not wicking fast enough to maintain juice at the business end.

Sometimes the filler will get hard at the end and not work efficiently. It's time to replace the cart or put in new filler. Walmart sells a bag of polyfill in the sewing section for $5 or less that will last years. Or, you can just through the cart away and grab a new one. Refill it until it fails to wick. If you buy the walmart polyfill, make sure that it doesn't say "flame ......ent" or "conforms to California standards ...". That means it has chemicals in it to prevent burning. You don't want those in your lungs. Buy the one that says "Caution! Flammable material!"

The easiest for me it the Pyramid Teabag Mod. Walmart sells the tea for $2.48 a box with 12 teabags in it. You just cut the bag open, throw away the tea, and cut the edges of the nylon bag to make a long flat piece. Roll it up loosely so that it fills the cart and cut the end even with the cart using scissors. Then, drop in juice until it quits taking it. blot the pool off the end and insert it into the cart. PTB has been the most trouble free mod for me and it vapes really well.

Trying to help some one out, this has ended up being one of the best threads for me. we have so much in common. puts a smile on my face to read about so many long term smokers using a modern type replacement device.
Maybe we could start a old fart forum. I remember when.
what do you think? :drool::yawn::?::?::confused:

Old dogs can learn new tricks, but the learning curve can be pretty damned steep, too! Kids today assimilate a whole language that I never learned: to me, a "window" was something to looked through to see what was outside, and that you washed now and then. Took me forever to grasp the concept of computer windows.

On top of the other benefits, this e cig adventure is certainly keeping my brain synapses alert and alive!

Please don't give up. I was having quite a few of those frustrating days and after trying all of the cart mods, I finally ordered some cartos. Haven't had an annoying vape since. I keep a syringe filled with juice and top off frequently. It also helps that I've now found several flavors of juices that I like, so when it gets where I can't taste one after several hours, I switch to another.

Btw, I'm a recluse wannabe myself and even I like the ECF people.

If I can do this, you most certainly can. We have faith in you.

Thanks for the clear explanation, Dave. I'm trying out lots of cart mod suggestions this week, while I wait for the cartomizers to come. Will try this one too. (My desktop looks like it belongs to some mad scientist.)
