Someone may have posted this earlier, but here's an idea if you are using slots...

Dremel the slot on a slight diagonal on the carto. Then, if you get leaking, you can slide the syringe plunger caps so that it covers part of the slot. If you're not getting enough wicking, you can move the plunger caps down so that more of the slot is exposed. I guess you could do the same thing with punched holes. Make one hole higher than the other, then you could expose both holes or cover one if necessary. That would make the cart-tank assembly easily adjustable depending on how your juice and carto filler is behaving.

It seems to me that the viscosity of the juice makes a big difference in the wicking vs. flooding issues.

I have a question for anyone using 12ml syringe tubes. I have some 12ml, and the hole on the side of the rubber that attaches to the plastic plunger piece is a lot smaller than the carto, unlike the 20ml where the hole is carto sized. So I'm wondering, how hard is to punch out the hole all the way thru using a carto.

I had that issue when using the 10ml. It's a bit more work but it's doable. I am using a sharpened atty and it slices through well after a bit of pounding.

Thanks. I am going to hone the edges of the carto to sharpen it a bit and give it a try.

I think that this could be the major factor in siphoning' for a given sized feed hole(s) in a given carto. Lot of 'variables' here...
I agree, lots of variables. I just did a experiment using the soft earring back for a plug in the tank. Its small and works very well, anyway the thing I tried is to fill the tank and put the plug in the tank without putting something in the tiny hole in the earring back, it did not leak but when I used it, it pulled air into the tank and flooded my carto. I remember you saying that if you have a air leek in the tank it will flood the carto and you were right on. I used a tissue to wick juice from the top of the carto and put a thumb tack in the hole instead of a earring to plug the hole and it is now working great. So no air leaks in the tank or you will have problems. I also put a 2nd hole in my carto with the saddle valve and so far now leaking. Not sure what the problem was with the first one I put 2 holes in that die flood. I quess over time we will understand more of whats going on. It is nice to hear others experiances because we all learn from them.

I guess my thing is a bigger tank means less fill ups. I don't mind the size. Has anyone tried anything bigger than a 20ml syringe? Like a phat tank? I'd love a great big ole tank for at home.

Well, the 12ml didn't go well. Tried punching 4 plungers to get 2 decent ones. Man, are things tight with these, and a lot harder to work with, for me anyway. Too much work, so I'll stick with the 20ml's. I just like the look of a smaller in diameter tank over a fatter one.

I was just dealing with the carto from hell earlier today. I punched 3 holes in it with the saddle punch. When I filled it, juiced seemed to wick into the filler fine, but it did not wick when I vaped. I could plug up the battery hole and suck juice into the carto, but it wouldn't wick. I tried tugging the filler a little to see if maybe it was just too tight down where the holes were. I tried sliding the tank up so the holes were exposed and prodding into the holes with a needle. Still no wicking.

I pushed the tank up again and dremeled a slot across one of the holes then slid the tank back down. Then it flooded all over the place. Gar! I gave up and threw it away. All the other cartos I've punched have worked fine (maybe 3-4 so far?). I don't know what the deal was with this particular one, but I hope it was just an anomaly.

the first one I made was with a 10ml syringe it was a tough go at it I used a big rubber mallet to punch the holes in the plungers but that wasn't the hardest part the hardest part was getting the carto and plunger into the cut tube and forget about getting it back out I agree way to much work 20ml definitely easier to work with

Don't you just hate it when that happens.LOL Let us know on your next one what you did and how it worked.

I think that there may be some overthinking a non-problem regarding fill holes and punching. Iffy gifted me a bunch of tanks that were part of his first run. (no fill holes). I grabbed a DC carto, cut a little slot with a dremmel, grabbed a tank, put it together and filled it with a syringe slid between the rubber and plastic. It works like a champ. I've refilled it (about 5mls ) 4 times and it's going strong. No issues, no leaks, no flooding. Maybe the KISS principle?

Thanks again Iffy!

Yeah, that stinks. I have only had 2 out of many that wouldn't wick properly and had to be thrown out. So, it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.

Gotta make the money to buy the cool stuff. I prefer doing juried art or craft shows. Wholesaling isn't that much fun, too much repetition, but it pays the bills. I do like working at home. Although I find it a challenge to balance housework, my jewelry biz and paperwork, cooking and cleaning, and now ecf and vaping projects.

Oh, and, lest I forget, my 11, soon to be 13 grandchildren. We like to see them as often as possible, sooo much fun.

wow....thought I had lots of GK's....6 of em...lol

WOW... it's discussed throughout most of this thread...

Here's a pic of mine with a 1ml plunger filler port plug:

Try eBay for bottles. Plus, there have been several posts on where to get 'em in the DIY forum.

missed this...why is fill port better at the bottom?

Plunger thickness on larger syringes would probably preclude using 'em on the standard length and 'xl' cartos. I have a 60ml syringe and the plunger is at least a third thicker than the 20.

ETA:

See posts #1031, 1064 and 1071. Basically, pressure relief when reinserting the filler port plug.

Iffy had some theory about that, but I didn't understand it (not saying it's wrong. It just went over my head). I put my fill holes at the top so I can fill from the top and see that juice is wicking into the filler as I load it up. Maybe next time I fill up a new tank I will flip the tank over and have the fill hole at the bottom and see if there's any difference for me.
