So I was in a local bulk foods store today (sugar & spice - if you live in Ontario I think they are a chain) and out of the corner of my eye, I see a sign "Flavor Extracts". Usually that results in a small selection either Vanilla or Almond oil extracts (and the occasional LorAnn's flavoring). Considering I'm a DIY horder, I naturally went straight for the shelf. What I found was an entire shelf of 100ml water based/PG based flavoring from a company in Markham called Horton Spice Mills. I've never heard of them, but the ingredients listed and price perked my interest. I picked up a couple of bottles (see below).
1. Artificial Coconut
Price: $3.99/100ml
Ingredients:
Water, Propylene Glycol, Artificial Flavor
Not sure about the "artificial flavor", but I might e-mail them and ask.
2. Pistachio
Price: $3.29/100ml
Basically same ingredients here..
2. Pure Peppermint Extract
Price: $4.39/100ml
Ethyl Alcohol being the only difference (which would make sense given the flavor)
4. Artificial Peach
Price: $3.29/100ml
The ingredient listing was blank on this one so I guess they just forgot to list them. I'm still going to give it a go lol
Now if your thinking that the labels look old so the bottles must be as well - I can almost guarantee they are. When I asked the store mgr if they could order new flavors in she brought out a list that was from 1996 (eek!) When I got home, I checked and they have a website albeit not very helpful. It appears they only carry a handful of flavors.
