I just took out the batt for a sec, put it back in, and the whole unit became extremely HOT! any ideas?

Take the battery out. The switch may be stuck.

It's been 10 minutes since you posted, so the issue is probably already resolved...

Bummer. You gotta act fast when those darn switches stick (if that's what happened).
