hot water steeping method, lids on or off

So I just got some fresh juices and some of them are; well, a bit unpleasent. So I'm doing the hot water steeping thing and for the very perfumey(?) Ones do I take the lids off or leave them on?

I take the lids off while in the hot water, then when it cools I put the caps on and let them set for a couple days.
