How about a drummer who was self taught, started out as a roadie for Slayer, a member of the Dark Angel, Death, Testament, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend, Tenet, Opeth, Dethklok (plays as Pickles the Drummer) and Fear Factory???

He's quite possibly the best metal drummer. EVER.
Some call him "The Human Drum Machine".... Others, know him as "The Atomic Clock".... It's Gene Hoglan!!!

Speaking drum solos.... how about Kai Hahto, from Wintersun?

His was actually the first drum set I ever tried out. Kai's family lived next door to my aunt :) Still prefer Rotten Sound to Wintersun, although the latter is great as well

That's awesome dude! Haven't listened to Rotten Sound yet, but I'll have to check it out.

In my opinion, the best metal drummers are John Boecklin of DevilDriver, Chris Adler of Lamb of God, Danny Carey of Tool and Dave Lombardo of Slayer. Those are my favorites anyway.

Please tell me I'm right...

Nah man, she's pretty dope. Hangs out with Biff Byford from Saxon. A lot of her stuff contains minor chord changes and arpeggios in modes like E Phrygian, definitely metal influenced. Google Faith No More's cover of "Poker Face."
