ok guys, so heres my problem, i made a passthru and i can't get it to vape well with the laptop, well any laptop, because i have a full size and a mini and i'm only getting maybe 2 volts, rank vape, i thought first that maybe my solder connections were bad but i tried just connecting the positive through the switch to a 3volt battery and ground to negative and my connections are fine? i'm not sure why i can't get the 5volts, anyone know why this is happening? i also tried two different usb cables thinking that may be the trouble.....just wanna get it working it's drivin me nuts.:p

Sounds about right if the laptop USB ports were made to USB2.0 specs. The port should max out @ 500 mA if the specs were followed. Not a lot of motherboard and laptop makers follow the specs. So results will differ with different hardware. Pretty sure you have around 5 volts there without a load but once loaded it drops to 2 volts. I would advise you to get a 5 volt 2 amp USB hub to vape off of. Putting the strain of vaping on built in USB ports is not a good idea for computer based hardware in my opinion ( meaning desktops , laptops, tablets , netbooks). Put it this way if you fry a 10 dollar USB hub not to big a deal, If you fry a 700 dollar laptop you might just make yourself cry.

If word got out that a laptop maker were using non-compliant USB specs, it would not be in their best interest. For charging purposes the amperage should not exceed the capacity of device being charged, so they would have complaints of ruining smaller devices. Also they save on precious battery life having USB purposely low. The power supply is a much better way to go.

Some manufacturers, like Toshiba, put a purpose built USB-Power port on their laptops that produce a full 5v whether the computer is on or off. Usually my phone is plugged into that port, but I do notice a difference from the other USB ports on the computer when using a passthrough. If your laptop has one, it will be USB 3.0, and colored blue, likely with a lightning bolt next to the USB symbol.

I may have an idea.

I ran into an issue with my supervisors iPad 3 and chargng. The iPad 3 requires more than the 500mA a standard USB 2.0 port supplies. You may be able to up the output of your USB with the ASUS Ai Charger, I don't have much first-hand knowledge of this software as I have attempted to implement it yet. Its just something I stumbled upon earlier today.
