How did you ask permission to vape at work?

I'm starting a new job on Monday (yay me:)). This will be my first job since I've started vaping and not sure how to approach the subject. If it was summer, I'd just go outside like usual but since it's winter I don't want to do that. And that is one of the benefits of vaping-not having to brave the elements lol. I'm just not sure how to broach the subject to my supervisor. I know I'll have to explain what it is, ingredients and such, which I'm totally up for but don't want to start off on wrong foot either. If anyone has any advice it would be most welcome

Go to CAASA website, click on store, for $2.50 order the CAASA ecig iformation cards. I hand those out everywhere! I'm with ConradM and WillyZee; I didn't ask, but well prepared, just in case....BTW, all my "cube" buddies support and appreciate the vaping experience I now enjoy and they are armed with the current and correct information. THANK YOU CAASA !

Well congrats on the new job and becoming an ex-smoker. As far as your boss and how to approach the issue is going to depend partly on what kind of work environment your in, like office, restaurant, warehouse or such and who works around you.

If there are smokers in your new company I would at first go with them where they smoke while trying to inform your boss and the other workers on the good aspects of e-cigs. Sometimes you can alienate your smoking co-workers if they think your getting special treatment while there being forced to go outside and smoke, so keep that in mind. If you had been with the company for a while then started vaping it can make the issue easier but sadly not everyone is that enlightened on vaping so tread easy in the new job.

me, i would primarily stealth in the restroom, like many have suggested, but if you notice someone is going out for a smoke break, join them. believe it or not many vapers still smoke. i know a large number of people in the army vape and smoke... but even if they dont, thats not why im suggesting this, it gives you two advantages...

1 remember smoking out with everyone, conversations had, good way to get to know people you work with, good way to get a feel for the company
2 someone just may stop you one time and say you know the boss said we could use those inside...

in the army, i work in my company area, i am fairly positive my bosses dont care about me vaping in the office, but we have A LOT of traffic that consists of high ranking people... so i usually go outside just to be safe...

rennovating building, lead poisoning, long story short we got moved to a different area... talking with one of the guys in a different companys area comparing mods, etc, i am on my way out the door, and am stopped, you know our bosses dont care if you vape inside, in fact they are fine with it... and we have less traffic over there... so i vape at my desk, but i hold it and stealth it, kinda

I'm with Devauto on this one. Did'nt ask just started vaping if they want me to stop they'll let me know.
If you ask for permission thay might say no. If you just do it most people (including most bosses believe it or not depending on the work environment) will see it and think well it must be ok he's doing it. People are funny that way.

Of course with a "new" job theres alot more variables to consider. Good Luck!

I never asked for permission because my boss is an on/off vaper and was partially responsible for my transition to vaping. Everyone else is a smoker. Sometimes I vape at my desk, other times I go outside. For as many questions that they ask about my gear, vaping in general, and complain about their own smoking and wanting to quit. I'm surprised that none of the others have switched yet.

As long as you keep vaping and they see you vaping sooner or later one or more will come to his/her senses and make the switch guarantee it. Seen it happen time and again. My son is almost there he tried to quit cold turkey soon after i started vaping, now he's back on the stinkies but he sees me and the wife happily vaping very soon I think he will join us.
But then again there are those hard core smokers who will never quit. lol gotta love em though.

I agree. I'm not the pushy type, people do what they are going to do. I was one of them once, I remember it like it was just 140 days ago. My push was a lot of exposure in one weeks time with my boss, friends who made the transition, lots of questions, and some friendly knowledgeable folks at a nearby B&M.

Anyway.... ask for forgiveness, it's much easier than getting permission.

I never even thought of asking permission at my work, it would be denied immediately, and a new "rule" would be added to the seemingly endless list of prohibitions, with no appeal possible ...

For many years we had the convenience of sending personal mail out in the company mail trays, and having our packages delivered to a work address. We have a whole staff that picks up and delivers inter-office mail between sites. Then one person in one division complained that a package was lost. Now, no more personal mail pickup or delivery ...

We lost our free coffee the same way, someone complained to be "allergic" to the smell of brewing coffee, now it is banned in all buildings. Coffee drinkers bring their own and "stealth sip", or hide it in a can or bottle (until that is banned as well) ...

This is not a sweat shop, or a telemarketer boiler room, but a major defense contractor. I am surrounded by senior scientists and industry experts, people with advanced degrees and serious expertise in their fields. But our HR department is on a rampage to reduce staff, and finding new and creative ways to make the work environment as miserable and demeaning as possible ...

I will continue to stealth vape at my desk, and challenge the veracity of anyone who catches me at it, although that is unlikely ...

What they don't know can't hurt me ...
