Two in parallel would ease the loaded voltage situation a little with the 10440. They make 2 and 3 cell parallel packs so it's been done before.
I used 10440s in my first couple of flashlight mods. Instead of parallel (which now that I think about it wouldn't have been a bad idea) I modified the battery carrier so that only one made contact and the other two slots were spares. I had a bunch of the 14440s (used the DSE 701 cigar for a while) and needed something that would last all day while on vacation. Even though the max discharge rating is low for this cell, it is used in the e-cigar and will "red glow" the atty. I never did check the resistance of the cigar atty, just gave up on them. Maybe the fact that an e-cig isn't a continuous current draw allows these little cells to work OK.
Two in the lighter would probably be pretty good.

I'm thinking about (2) 18650's in parallel in an altoids tin for the extended weekend mod. I am betting I could go 4 to 5 days without a charge.

Built in charger? Since is primarily for outings away from homeport, you could put it on charge the day before.
I charge one of mine (single battery mod) with a cable plugged into a miniusb. The other end has crimp on eyelets. My dowel rod assembly gage (for the flashlights) holds the wires in the charger, a single slot labeled as 1000ma charging current by actually only does about 700ma. Unless I made several it just isn't too compatible with the others I carry.

Ralph, a triple 18650 would be about the size of a regular pack of cigarettes.
Flip top Malboro box?
