I was just curious as to how other people explain to friends and/or family what it is and how it works? I've been trying to explain it to my friend for a day or two and I just cant figure out how to explain it to him, he keeps saying it sounds risky and whatnot. How have you presented it to other people or how has it been presented to you when you were first introduced?

Basically it's a nicotine inhaler with flavoring. You get the nicotine fix, in a manner similar to smoking, without the tar and other chemicals found in real, burning, cigarettes.

The atomizer is a simple heating element, that vaporizes the nicotine and flavoring that's contained in a liquid base that's a common chemical, one that's previously been used in inhalers called nebulizers.

The PV vapor ingested by the user has about almost no chemicals compared to regular cigarette smoke, over 99.99% fewer as a matter of fact (10 vs. 4000+).

There's nothing actually burning. One inhales a vapor, a mist, as opposed to the smoke of burning tobacco.

If they want specifics you can tell them that a battery runs a current through a coil of high gauge nichrome wire (thin as heck) and that wire heats up turning the liquid into a gas to be inhaled.

It is similar to steam coming off a pot of boiling water, except instead of water the solution is PG or VG based and there are flavorings and nicotine.

Also most serious studies have found no real health risks when compared to cigarettes and barely any when not compared to anything. The only real health risks that I've heard about are about as bad as those of caffeine and are caused by the nicotine.
