I've always DIY, too. But I have to go the cheaper route, walmart food flavorings (no oils or sugars). I use the humco brand VG, also at walmart, $2.50 for 177ml, and buy nic at 50mg and dilute it down, use an e-juice calculator to get it to around 14mg with the flavors and vg. May be a bit weak on flavor sometimes, but it works for me, and I have enough supplies to last me a couple of months at least.

*did I already say all of this? must be getting tired lol*

What % of the flavor do you use with your VG base? 10%, 20%? Just curious because in a pinch someone could go buy some VG and flavor get them thru even if they run out of juice while waiting for a shipment. I see this happening to alot of folks. I always keep PG and VG around so I have a good supply to vape. I have not tried diluting the high nic %'s yet, may try that later, but I was worried I would not get the level right down from 50 or 48. bnrk

Yes, I write stories, but only on the internet. I'm a Chemist, and I broke my HS English teacher's heart when I took up science, but I can have it both ways. I'm writing a lot more of late and I have a great deal of fun with it!

Awesome! From a chemist's point of view, what do you think about the vapor? Concerns, improvements etc.

Well, I’m still fairly new at this and I don’t have ideas for improvement so much, though my occupation has influenced how I approach my buying decisions. As a chemist I looked for a supplier using the best grade of starting materials (USP for those of us here in the US) and with a sensible quality control program in place. No doubt there are many companies that do this but Halo was the first one I found so I ordered from them. They were here in the US and I do think people will be well-advised to order from the best managed companies located in their own country because their programs will be comprehensible in local terms and there is more leverage to get any safety concerns resolved.

Based on my own research, I am confident that vaping is safer than smoking analogs, but the long-term safety of vaping is a mystery. The history of Chemistry is littered with examples of materials that were once thought safe but later proved to be hazardous; I fervently hope PG and VG do not ever appear in that roster, but we just don't know. It is a story time will tell.

If the base proves to be safe, then there is the matter of flavorings. I suspect that changing flavors often is the best course of action for us, in case there is some (as yet unsuspected) problem with over-vaping any certain chemical. Most of the flavorings will likely be food-grade: safe enough to eat but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are safe to inhale. Again, time will tell, but variety is good for you where food is concerned, and I suspect the vaping story will prove likewise.

I think the guy who invented the ecig should receive a Nobel Prize.

yes you should treat yourself! Congrats on 1 month smoke free. When you use VG do you dilute it with distilled water? The stuff is so thick it won't work in my cartos, but if I want more vapor I add a drop or two to my cartos. bnrk

I do use distilled water, although some people use vodka or everclear, they say it adds TH, but I won't have vodka in the house (recovering alcoholic, now ex-smoker, what a mess I was). Prob why I'm so strange :)

I use this calculator to do my figuring (whether or not from bad math skills or brain cells I'm not sure)

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/46912-downloadable-e-juice-recipe-software-app.html

It calculates nic, ml and drops to mix when you add the % you want, and you can change % and recalculate till you get what you want.
I usually use about 20 to 30 % flavors because the store bought ones are a bit weaker than DIY ones from vape stores.

In addition, I am very happy I don't work for a regulatory agency. The e-cigs must me a nightmare for them with so many different suppliers and so many different formulations. I'll bet any Chemists working for them must be getting old fast.

The distilled water makes sense. VG is so thick I can't imagine not diluting it to a runnier consistency. So glad you stopped drinking and smoking, wow you deserve an award! Keep up the good work! bnrk

Thanks bnrk :) It hasn't been easy these last few years, but I have plenty of support, both here at at home. And as I'm learning more and more here, I am able to help others (at least I hope I am not just blowing vapor rings ;)) and that makes me feel a lot better about myself, instead of being a smoke smelling martini(well, more vodka than martini) guzzler that I was. It is a good feeling. 2 more days and I have 1 month...do I get a chip or something? LOL

Fabulous! You deserve something special for sure, how about some DIY flavors I have I am not using, you could try them out and see if anything is there you like. I have some variety I will send you, my treat! If you don't like them you can pass them along to someone to try. I am trying to clean out my stash! ha ha bnrk
