I'm just going to save a step and grow my own bamboo coils.

xc-132 is the smaller size that will fit into a 1/16 micro coil.

Totally don't want to hijack the thread but.....
Has anyone tried squeezing some cotton through the interior of the xc132? I guess maybe you'd need the thread for this application, but me thinks you'd get the absorbency of the cotton and the heat resistance of the ceramic? No? If your willing to spend a VERY. Frustrating time of it lol

If you were going that route you'd be better with a hybrid of SS mesh and cotton, since you can easily wrap the cotton in the mesh and then coil on top of that. The problem remains that cotton burns easily, but the mesh lasts ages.

HRH finds the TH too much with mesh, but i find it ok. Silica is my usual wick however, since it's a lot faster to make one on the fly.

Hello my fellow Reonauts. I've been asked what I mean by lower case "e" when I try to describe how I wick with bamboo. This is the shape I'm trying to describe.

I then use a piece of wire to grip the bamboo from the middle.

I put the ends of the wire through my coil.

Then I pull it even on both sides of my coil.

Sorry for the fugly pix but what can I say it's phone pix. Once again I've sourced the Bamboo from Walmart dot com. Aunt Lydia's Bamboo#10 size natural color. It costs $2.49 for 300 feet this should come to around 2,400 wicks. YMMV Be Aware it shows a 300 foot roll but says it 3 feet on the site, you will get a 300 foot roll delivered to your local Walmart. I hope this helps my brothers and sisters. Much love to you all.

Hey Raynman do you boil hemp before use?

I'm not a fan of mesh, and I don't want to coil on the wick... I may give it a shot when I'm bored and have some time to kill.... Wish I had some of the thread people use for wicks...

Master, I have several different kinds (crochet thread. Embroidery thread, knitting yarn) of cotton threads, and two sizes of bamboo thread, some hemp, etc. I would be glad to send you some FREE samples. PM me your address. This actually goes for any Reonaut who might be curious or interested.

Is that a 1/16th ID coil? Id like to try something new. I find myself changing my cotton wicks almost everyday. Does the bamboo last any longer? And flavor changes?
Yes 1/16 micro. I find that the bamboo lasts for at least a couple of days. Flavor changes are no problem to me but YMMV
Thank you - I ordered some to try. How long is the piece of bamboo that you use?
The piece of bamboo I used was about an inch and a half. You may need to adjust for your coil size. (as in number of wraps)

I haven't tried Hemp yet. I do not boil the bamboo.

I do owe a special thanks to JC Okie for turning me onto this. I accepted her gift (that she is offering now) in another thread a while back. I'm so glad I did. I use Bamboo most of the time and have just a month ago started using ceramic on one Reo. So Cal
I just tried the bamboo, and I think I like it better than cotton (either balls or Peaches and Cream). It seems cleaner - less fuzzy, and there doesn't appear to be a brief break-in phase like cotton with delicate flavors. To thread it through my micro coil (29 gauge on 16 gauge needle) I just folded it in fourths, and took another piece which I doubled (and twisted) to make a hook to pull it through. So 4 pieces of bamboo seems like a nice fit.

I am thinking about trying the bamboo. So far i have only tried cotton and silica and both are ok but I think im still looking for the right wick. Never quite happy with either one.

gbacon, the offer stands. PM me your mailing address and I'll send you some to try. Nothing to lose here.... :)
