A couple of weeks I think after ECF repeatedly came up in googles for vaping related info. I created an account after I explosively vented an Efest rewrapped battery, and felt compelled to share my experience.
I became a regular contributor after I realised that there were some gaping holes in my vaping knowledge. Also ECF is filled with helpful friendly people and is very well policed by the mods making it a really nice place to hang out.

Four Years or so.

Started looking around the WWW for info, late 2009 or early 2010.

There was Soooo much advertising masquerading as genuine info back then.

I really couldn’t figure it out on my own.

This was the place that seemed to have the straight poop, but even so; it was hard to suss out.

There is a learning curve.

Used gas station eCigs until finally knocking off dual use in 2012.

Popped in and out very occasionally from there until deciding to find something better than your average cigalike.

Joining and supporting the forum that had helped me get off the bad cigarettes seemed like the right thing to do.

It was a while, probably about nine months. Never belonged to a forum but read a couple which would come up with google searches about ecigs; ECF and another. The other forum seemed argumentative in a mean spirited way. That kept me from joining any. However, after a while I quit reading the other forum and continued reading this one and noticed it was not like the other. Every time I came on to read something, it kept telling me to make an account which got annoying. Until one day I decided to bite the bullet and join.

I'm a bit ashamed to say that i think I just joined originally to tap some knowledge over a specific noob vaper issue and then faded away for several years until i started to contribute more in the last year.....

As others have said this is probably the best forum to be involved with as everyone is normally thoughtful, kind and willing to share. There are some other forums out there that have terribly condescending **s ho*es/members .

safe distance from a black hole
I think I first visited here in 2013?? I dont know. A workmate and myself were building mods and trying different coils etc instead of what we were meant to be doing.
I tried vaping then but was very much about my tobacco habit at that stage. He quit tobacco though.

5 minutes or so.. (I was on a mission)

I, too, was on a mission. I tried a couple of cigalikes and knew that ecigs had the potential to help me off cigarettes. I just needed some help finding my way; ECF was the help I needed.

I lurked for many months before deciding to join. I'm not really a public forum, Facebook or Twitter kinda guy.

I vape NETs (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) exclusively. Here in the U.S. the government and media are blatantly anti-vaping. The government almost succeeded in banning it a decade ago but was stopped by the courts. I realized their ongoing war against vaping might eventually impact availability and/or cost, especially for a low volume juice like NETs. I decided the only way to avert bans, taxes or restrictions was to learn how to make my own. Ran across ECF and their "Liquid extraction from tobacco" sub-forum, the best on-line source I've found on making NET. I eventually decided to participate and contribute what I had learned... so I joined. ECF has been a -goldmine- of useful information. The knowledge and experience of its members and their willingness to participate/help is what makes it great.
