How long does it take for your mod to fully charge your 18650 battery?

In order to confirm the need for an external charger, I should tell you that the micro USB port of my mod came out. I glued it, and then I needed to clean the port with Acetone. This is how it looks:

Sorry to hear that, but lesson learned. I reserve the micro-usb for firmware updates and only charging in an emergency. Some boards have a more securely mounted port than others.

If you are going to use the port frequently, it's a good idea to get a magnetic connector for it. You plug in the adapter to the mod and leave it plugged in all the time. Then you have a magnetic attachment that provides charging and data. If the cable gets yanked too hard, it simply disconnects.

Charging via the port isn't consistent across all boards. Some do a better/safer job than others, some can do balanced charging on duel battery mods well, some can't. It's best just to have it for emergency use if needed.

Good luck

Magnetic chargers, one of my favorite things ever for internal battery mods (or even external if you MUST charge it via USB.) The amount of time it takes will vary based on your mod's "rate of charge, meaning how much current it can pull and what is on offer, and the rating on your battery I would think...

The magnetic charges I've been using have a little bit of 'current loss'. You can feel the connector getting a little warm, therefore it charges a little bit slower than plugging directly into the port. Not sure if they are all like that or just the ones I got.

Regardless, they are GREAT for tablets and phones as well. I have an older tablet that works great, but the port is wonky. When I got a new one, first thing I did was plug a magnetic adapter into it. It's great becuase it breaks loose without putting stress on the port if the cable gets tugged, etc. It's also nice that having the magnetic adapter plugged in all the time keeps lint and dust out of the port.

I'm going to go out on a limb, here, since I don't own ALL of the chargers made, nor ALL of the mods, BUT...
I have taken a few chargers apart. They, and the mod manufacturers are likely using the same little integrated charging chips. They are 'cheap as chips', as the saying goes. They just use 2 for a 2 batt. charger, etc. All the fancy stuff is processor programming.. balancing, readouts, etc.
Unless you like to use your external charger at a higher rate, on a single battery mod you would likely see no difference.
There may be a difference in how well the mod is ventilated, though. Component life could suffer.
And if something goes wrong, well the fire takes out the mod, instead of the charger. :( Depending on the dollar cost of your mod, it may work to your favor!;)

Additionally, when I vape fast at 25w, the charger can't keep up and the charge actually decreases. I may want to buy a new mod, and I want something that could get fully charged as fast as phones.

Charging your batteries using the mod's USB port should be reserved for times when you can't use a charger. A dedicated charger is faster and doesn't put your mod through heat and stress from using the charging port. Not to mention that charging with USB subjects the mod to a possible port failure. The USB port needs to be reserved for firmware upgrades and only used to charge when you aren't home.

I have the Efest LUC V4, Nitecore i4, and The Xtar VC4. Of the three, only the Efest LUC 4 will charge all four bays at once in the 1A mode. The rest will charge two bays at 1A or four bays at .5A. with the exception that the Nitecore i2 only charges 2 @ .75A or 4 @ .375A.

For quick charging the LUC V4 is my choice. For informational displays, it's the Xtar. The Xtar shows MAH info as well as charge rate and progress. For battery condition, the Xtar VC4 tells you more about battery state. It's a shame it can't do 1A x 4 bays, but it does 2A on the center bays if you are in a hurry.

The new Nitecore Q4 will do 4 cells x 1A.

Here's an informative article if you are shopping for a good charger. Lots of specs and review material.
