How long does it take to get used to the throat hit / stop coughing?

I was just curious if anyone who's quit analogs can answer this question for me?

I noticed with duel use that smoking an analog seemed to make the coughing come back even after I started to get used to the vape.

I just got my WTA juice in and I'm going to give up the analogs and switch completely over to that, but I wanted to know what to expect as to how long it will take for the coughing to stop.
I must admit that I have noticed if I hold the vapor in my mouth for a little bit longer before pulling it into my lungs, the throat hit is pretty much non-existent, but I'm still coughing.

It's not a big deal, it's just I've heard from people that it does go away after awhile, and I was just wondering if I could get an estimate of how long I can expect it to take before my throat gets used to it.

Thanks!

Everyone is different in that regard I personally didn't cough up anything when I switched over. I was getting a cough on every inhale of vapor when I first started vaping, but got over that by taking smaller hits. Inhaling vapor is different then inhaling smoke try talking to someone while you have your lungs full of vapor its fairly difficult with smoke no problem, For me anyhow. IMO this is because vapor is wet, heavy and dense unlike smoke. Some of my friends who have converted coughed there heads off, but got used to it in a week or so. for less throat hit try a higher VG juice and or lower your nic level

I never really had a problem with coughing but my mom did. It choked her for a week. She's good now. I did get a hard throat hit but lowering my nic fixed that fast. I smoked a pack and a half a day and 18mg was too strong for me. I went down to 6mg nic and it was perfect for me. everybody is different though. Give it time, it should improve.

You might want to try some fruit or dessert flavors to see if it's the WTA that's irritating your throat. If your juice is 100% PG, you might want to try some VG juice (less irritation ... very smooth). Most vapers use 80pg/20VG down to 50/50. You can always go to Walmart and buy a bottle of Humco USP VG from the cosmetics counter for about $3.99 and add about 20% to a tank just to see if it smooths out. I keep a bottle around for when I want smooth vapes.

I had two bottles of WTA Tobacco that was just too dang heavy on the throat hit. I gave a 50ml bottle to a friend and kept the other. It was an absolutely great tobacco flavor that was closer to anything I've vaped, but way too irritating and too much TH.

For a while after you quit smoking you will naturally cough more than you have in a long time. It's your lungs recovering and pushing out all the toxins and tars. The cilia in you bronchial tubes wake up after being deadened for years by smoking. Once that happens, they begin to transport that stuff to your throat and you cough it up. You may just be going through a process of natural recovery.

I have coughing issues with my Kayfun, but not my various Kangers, so I think it's dependent on how thick the smoke is and how 'scratchy ' it is.

For example, I always have a tank with either Aroma Djarum or GI Joe/Djarum blend, both at 1 part WTA 24 to 3 parts 12 regular in it. I use this to scratch my throat when it starts itching, meaning an allergy attack is coming on. That's how resistant I am to coughing, but my Kayfun will still catch me wrong sometimes.

I think it's the moisture in the vape, which if you're not used to it, can be really hard to override. It's a lot thicker than even a nebulizer.

The instructions that came with my Kayfun cautioned that it might be more efficient than other tanks you've used. The suggestion was to watch out for nic overdose and try halving the nic level you were used to. I found myself bumping the edge of OD on my 11mg juice the first day and backed off on vaping frequency. I'm planning on ordering 6mg juice my next order.

You didn't say what type of device you're using, but you might try a little less power (or more resistance). If your vape is to hot for you ... you WILL cough.

I started out with an eGo-T which is only 3.4v, and the SR "A" atty (3 ohm) was all they made at that time. And, no cough. Then they came out with the LR "A" atty (2 ohm), and I coughed a little at first.

My juice is 100% VG (I kept away from the PG because of the throat hit) - well, except the flavorings (which I got from PA, so they're PG... but I don't think that's enough PG to actually make any kind of difference).

I'm going to try lowering the nic even further. I was vaping around 15mg... honestly now I'm not completely sure where my juices are (just added some VG and a tiny bit of flavoring to make up the difference --- so it should be around 10-11mg now) .
I'll keep toning it down and see if I can find an area that is a little better on my throat. If nothing else, I'll wait a week, stay off the cigarettes for sure... and keep my fingers crossed.
But I might take my juice down to the 6mg-ish range and see how that goes.

It seemed to me like a lot of people started on a higher nic content (24-12mg seems to be the regular range)... and perhaps my stuff is too high anyways since I was smoking half a pack a day of lights... so 15's probably a little high anyways.

I'm sure it's got to be the nicotine content (regular juice does it too), since vaping flavored VG doesn't have the same effect.
But I also have a pretty sensitive throat... so... >_<

---- And thanks for the note about the VV batteries. I have a Ego C-Twist that I absolutely love (always seem to keep it on the lowest voltage because it's much smoother ---- sadly I do not know the current resistance on my coils - but I have some coming in the mail that are 2.2ohmz). I'll have to remember that and start out in the morning with my Twist and go from there. (currently for my tank I have whatever comes standard in the Kanger EVODs)

I didn't cough at all (but I started on a Nemisis/Russian) "mod" one, the folks in the vape shop handed it to me with Mother's Milk and I inhaled a cloud like a pro.

laugh at me will yah hahahaha.

it was because the cilia in my respiratory tract were dead/imobilized about after a week it had me sputter coughing a bit for a few days and I'd just adjust how hard/much I inhaled. It should pass, if it doesn't monkey around with PG/VG percentage, flavors and nicotine level (if getting that brillo on the back of the throat sensation.

a dry hit or a nasty tasting juice (to me like the one my guy started with "Brutal Juice" and it was) gets me coughing. An no more smokers cough and no more wheezing when we sleep, and I think we're both snoring less too.

    Good luck to you!!

Finding the right juice is important. The right tank or atomizer plays into the equation, too. If VG is harsh, then the problem is nicotine and/or flavorings. Most juices contain VG or PG, flavorings, water, and nicotine, so there's not a lot of latitude after that.

If you want mild, try a Protank or an Evod, maybe an Aspire CE5/DBC. Protank 1 or 2 is less in your face vapor production, IMO. Smooth can sometimes be in the device you choose to vape any given juice.

You might even try Smoktech or Boge Cartos. They are a good vape without all the harshness. They hold a smaller volume of juice and you have to top them off with a few drops every 30 minutes or so, but you can carry a 3ml sample bottle of juice in your pocket for that or carry a couple of filled cartos with end caps installed in your pocket.

I have a hard time getting the TH that I want so this might not be relevant to your situation.

I have 2 of these The GBC Clearomizers one has the original 1.8 ohm coil and one has 1.7 ohm micro coil that is wicked with cotton. Both have a very smooth, mild hit. The flavor is slightly muted but decent. I vape 18-24 mg/ml juice with 65/35 PG/VG.

I went through the same thing at first with the little standars battery that is 3.7 volts. I figured out that it was too hot to start out with and got an adjustable battery (vision spinner). I found that I didn't cough on the lowest setting of 3.3 volts. Once I got used to it, I was able to go up. Good luck! Stick with it, it gets better and is WORTH IT!!!
When I first tried it a year ago, I gave up and didn't try again for 7 months.....now I am so glad I can vape rather than smoke. For the little bit of coughing with the start of vaping, it has saved me TONS of hacking from my smoker's cough, which is totally gone now!
