I
Only people that go out of their way to be politically correct call us "African American." Black is simpler, and that's what I and other BLACKS I know all call ourselves.

The only blacks that want to be called "African Americans" are the ...... that think they deserve reparations and don't want equality, but want to be placed on a pedestal.

Observing the attitudes of African Americans and gaining an understanding of the drive to classify Black Americans as African Americans, I must now say that I can no longer identify myself as an African American because this classification holds several proclamations and principles to which I no longer identify with as a citizen of this country.

I don't think about Africa, or what it would be like to live there, as I have always been content living in the country of my birth, where I grew up in a small town in Louisiana.

I think a lot more blacks have computers than you think. Most of my friends have computers and know how to operate them. In Louisiana there are as many lower income whites as there are black. I think this is a sterotype.

I am not being prejudice.

Most of the black people in my social circle are pretty poor and don't have a computer, but smoke like chimneys. (Yes, menthol - including my husband and his sister. I think it's a socio-economic thing, not a race thing.) My husband spent a lot of his youth in the poorer area of the city. Both his younger siblings have black partners and children (mixed). No computers there. Of the black friends we have that have computers, they don't smoke. So, I wasn't trying to follow a stereotype, just the poor black people I actually know.

Of course, all of the same applies to the poor white smokers I know.

Depends on the context to me.

If you are asking how many African people do "x" or how many Italians do "y" it is valid. Just like getting info for African Americans or Irish Americans. It's statistics.

Referencing for recognition is also OK to me. If I ask someone if they know someone else, I make a reference to color. The same as references are made about me "Do you know that guy? You know, the red headed dude." It's a defining trait. Noby refers to me as that white guy because I am in a 90% white environment. Not very defining.

I think it's an excellent point. Blacks are over-represented in the tobacco-smoking population. If we aren't reaching them, why not? How do we get the word out to them?

Im a black woman, and just started vaping a few days ago. My husband , also Black vaps as well. I heard about the e-cigs on a episode of Doctors and decided to try it.

Im getting the word out to all i know Black, White, Latino etc.... If you want to get the word out to ("blacks") black people contact State Reps, Officials, Community Organizers and Activist/Advocates.

Search online forums, groups and disscusion boards, topics aimed to the black population. If you can afford to, visit the black communities and give a few away.

and also...i know i'm as pale as they come and have no "right" to make this comment for anyone...BUT...

i'm not a fan of the term "african american" either.

first reason...a friend told me that that he was denied a scholarship for a college because it was for "african americans." he is egyptian.

second...i don't think black people in britain want to be called "african american" and likewise for our black brothers (and sisters) in other parts of the world and other countries. they aren't american, so i'd assume they don't want to be called "african american" but i'm just guessing here.

I smoked menthol for about 30 years - could I be black?

"You mean I'm gonna STAY this color!!??"

See who gets that joke ;)

I thought it was a good question. I have a few black friends and they all seem just as interested or not interested as anybody else when the e-cig comes up in conversation.

Point is, its a great product for anyone, regardless.

I would like to know how many people vape in the USA?
Don't even know how many people smoke any more?

Do you think over 10'000 people vape in the USA ?
Well, at this point there are over 18,300 members of this forum. And we aren't the only forum for PVs. Figure that not all PV owners are going to join a forum, maybe 1/3 will. So, my guess is there are at least 50,000 vapers out there!

Maybe the US Census bureau will let ACORN do a survey?

Well, I don't think I'M the color of a baboon's .......:)

But seriously......I will call people anything they wish to be called. However, I don't understand why some black Americans want to be called African Americans. They are just fellow Americans to me--Nothing African about any of them I know.

And....That term doesn't really say anything. John Kerry's wife is African American--from South Africa; but she is white.

So what's wrong with black and white? Of course, black people aren't really black and white people are kind of pinkish....I'm not sure about rednecks.....;)

50 000 vapers in the US or in the whole world? Not everyone here is from the US. ;)
