Depends on the recipe. Generally, you're looking at anywhere from less than 1% all the way up to 10+% depending on the flavor you're using.

It's best to work in smaller amounts (10-30ml) until you get your recipe down to where you like it to taste.

Oh yes. Moved to DIY e-liquid

My recipes range from 0.35% to 35% flavoring and I found what worked by experimenting with small batches.

So the answer to your question is, what ever percentage worked for you in smaller batches will work for your prospective huge batch. Though in over 6 years of mixing my own, I cannot imagine any reason to want to make over a gallon of juice...

This site has a gallon of pg/vg mix sans flavoring and I was wondering how much flavoring I would need to buy to go with that? I'm 100% new at this. I'm not going to put nicotine in it-working my way down from 6 mg to 3 mg to 0 mg
The amount of nicotine is irrelevant, mostly. Flavoring averages around 10 - 15%. So you're going to need 10% - 15% of a gallon. I believe an American gallon is 128 ounces. So you'd need to add 13 - 20 ounces. However I sure wouldn't advise it. As others have said, make small batches at a time because once it's made, you vape it or toss it.

Personally, I wouldn't think of even mixing a gallon of any of my recipes that I already know I love!

So, I definitely would not recommend it to someone else...who has never even made a smaller batch first, to find out what % works best. That would be a huge amount to throw out if it's not good or is too strong.

Also, the longer some flavorings blend together, the taste of the eliquid may change. What a gallon would taste like at first, may be WAY different than what it might as you vape it, until it's gone. Also, how you store that gallon could make a big difference in it, too.

Start with small batches and simple recipes. I usually make a 10ml batch before I consider anything larger. Start with single flavors. You could try apple, or peach or something, but those are usually better mixed with something else. Try something already prepared. I personally love Pina Colada and Banana Nut Bread from FlavorArt just as they are. Try them first at 10% and then experiment with different amounts. Since you're going to pay for shipping, get maybe a dozen that strikes your fancy in 30ml bottles. You're looking at around $5 a bottle. Actually Nicotine River has the 60ml bottle of Pina Colada for $4.50 and you can make 600ml of juice. Can't go wrong with that. Then you can re-order the ones you like in bigger quantities when place your order for recipes that you come across that you want to try. Get a juice calculator like e-juice me up and a scale and some 30 or 60 ml bottles to make your mixing painless and easy.

PG/VG will last a long time, so a gallon isn't too much to have on hand. As others have said, make juice in small batches of 10ml or 15ml until you know what works and what you like. You don't want a gallon of crap juice that you can't stand to vape! Start small until you know you like a recipe.

I vape about 10ml a day. In a week, that's 70ml. When I used to order juice I'd order 200ml at a time and it would usually last three weeks to a month. I always had some on hand when I ordered.

I'm mixing in 60ml bottles and doing about 4 at a time. You need enough to allow steeping time before you vape it. Some juices are good after a day and some need a couple of weeks to steep and develop flavor.

Some juices you create will be terrible. Sometimes steeping fixes them and other times they get poured out. Start small and keep records of your mixes so that you can repeat the ones you like.

It only takes an hour or so to create a month's worth of juice and stay ahead of the steeping time needed. After a while you'll develop a sense for how much to make and when to start again to keep yourself in juice that's matured while other batches are a couple of weeks from being vapable.

Some flavors are good after a day and others need a couple of weeks of steeping time to mature.
